Lego Batman

Can't find the other thread, blah, blah, blah...

Picking this up next week for my son's birthday (of course, I don't want to play it...), and looking forward to it. Anyone else?
Didn't realize it was out next week. I'll grab it, but I was a little underwhelmed by the Indiana Jones one.

I think I'm most interested in it because I don't know what to expect. With Star Wars and Indy, you pretty much knew where the story was going. This isn't based off the movies, etc., so I'm interested in seeing how they do making an quasi-original story.

I think these games are a ridiculous amount of fun and you definitely get a lot of value for your money. Not a lot of money in my budget right now for videogames (plus Rock Band 2's got my full devotion at the moment), but I'll pick it up eventually.

It's definitely the best looking of all the Lego games, but it plays the same as you'd expect. I just wonder how many more of these can be released before we get sick of them. Fun as hell for now, though.

I'm going to a launch party next week that's being held at the Museum of Natural History, of all places.
Oh hell yes!

But it will really have to be great to top the Indy one. Which for me has been the best so far.

I don't get all the love for these LEGO games. Sure they're fun for a few hours, but they are not worth 60 bucks. Unless you have kids. That makes sense. And for the record I played and beat both Star Wars ones. They were fun, but they're too damn easy and too damn short. I am more curious about the LEGO MMORPG coming out.

I got invited to that too and I had to do a double take. Although I did see that superhero costume exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum and it was pretty cool.

It was mentioned in the Lego Indy thread that these games are a lot of fun to play with your significant other – especially if they don’t like gaming. I think that is a huge part of the appeal.
Ah, that makes sense, but I don't seem to have that problem. My girl found these games to be boring as well. But for 20 bucks these games are alright.
I didn't get the LEGO Star Wars until it was released as the trilogy for $25, but as a Batman/comic guy I have to spring for the character - and the in game music!

Hell, the only reason I bought a PS3 was for Blu-Ray and DCU Online.
Looking forward to the Batman game. I've only played the Indy game up to now, so not yet at the point where the gameplay is tired for me. I felt I got my money's worth out of Indy. The next gen versions are at least a little cheaper, only $50, not the normal next gen price.

I feel so burned it's not Xbox360-friendly

Nice to see another DC fan on the boards, tho.

360 gets it's own superhero MMO with Champions, and if you have a decent comp, both games will be available on PC. I loved City of Heroes, but eventually got a little tired of it. DCU Online and Champions both look promising - too early to tell which one will get my $15 a month.

I've never been too into the Lego games, but this one does look great. You can play as all of the villains, and they all have their own powers and abilities. But even $50 is a bit too steep for me for something like this. I'll be patient and wait until it's $30 or less.

There are a few games I can't wait for and will buy brand new (Fallout 3!) but most of the time it pays to wait a few months.

At the comic shop I work at I'm the only DC guy. The other employees all read Marvel almost exclusively.

Couldn't agree more. They seem like glorified Live Arcade games to me. I don't see how people are entertained enough to complete them, frankly. I think they're charming and humorous enough, but that wears off rather quickly in my humble.

My buddy is the guy that will 100% these fucking games. I just don't get it.

Hear, hear, Rob and Singer.

They're fun enough in that downtime between real games, but the people that get anal about collecting bolts and unlocking every single goddamned character kinda freak me out.

The Lego Star Wars games are the first games my son really played. They're great partner games and we had tons of fun with them. He's moved on now (Sly Cooper is his current favorite, but it's a one-player game). He doesn't really know Indiana Jones, but Batman will definitely work for him. I'm thinking about picking it up for Christmas. My dilemma is that I'm getting a WII, and the only other system I have is a PS2. I'm afraid he might get all caught up in the WII games and not want to play the PS2.

Game is out today, and no reviews from what I've seen yet. Hopefully its worth picking up.
I was planning on picking it up at Best Buy today during my weekly Blu-Ray journey.

Picking it up today. Got my son a DS for his birthday on Saturday, and this was his first request.

Yeah, my boss is like that. He had to 100% it.

He's also the guy who enjoys "levelling up" in RPGs.

Personally though, I found the Star Wars games a million times more entertaining than the Indy one, which grew stagnant pretty damn quickly. Perhaps it was oversaturation to the originals.

But it's Batman!
What is?! Where?! What's going on?!
I'll admit it. The main reason I want to play this game is the Batman license. The Lego games are fun, but its Batman that makes me want to purchase.
I just want to play a Batman game that doesn't suck.
Pretty much that.

I bought it yesterday but still haven't cracked it open yet. Hopefully I'll get to that sometime tonight.

Played some last night and this morning, along with my son. It's pretty fun so far. We got stuck in a few areas, not realizing what we had to do to move forward. But we eventually figured it out. The Batarang throwing thing took a few minutes to figure out, and they've done some neat things with having different costumes to accomplish different things. We also played as the villains this morning (Riddler and Clayface), and that was interesting--you play through the "same" story as Batman & Robin, but you're the villains this time.

Oh, and Robin is a complete idiot in the cut scenes, which is kind of funny. Lots of the music from the movies, and odes to scenes from the movies (when you're the Riddler, you can mind control certain people using your cane--like in Batman Forever). The villains I've seen so far: Joker, Riddler, Clayface, Poison Ivy, Mr. Freeze, Penguin, Catwoman, Killer Moth(!), Bane, Killer Croc. Heroes so far: Batman, Robin, Batgirl, Nightwing, Commissioner Gordon, Alfred, Bruce Wayne.

The "True Jedi" equivalent is "Super Hero" or "Super Villain". You also do scenes driving vehicles like the Batmobile, Robin's Batcycle, etc. These are similar to the spaceship missions in Lego SW. Also, the fighting is kind of funny--instead of just punching, you do all kinds of flips, kicks, punches, and you can grab guys and throw them, punch them, etc. The main working place (like the University in Lego Indiana Jones) is the Batcave for the heroes, and Arkham Asylum for the villains.

That looked very cool. My son would have loved it...and I guess I would have managed to have fun, 'cause you know, I'm too old for Legos and such...

I'm assuming that after Harry Potter 7 comes out in movie form, it will be swiftly followed by a Lego Harry Potter game.

"The whole outside was set up like a carnival, with tons of games, balloons, and cotton candy floating around."

Glad to see you avoided getting exposed to Smilex gas.

Anyone given the PSP version a try? I'm considering picking that up.
