Fracture

Don't think there's a thread about this one yet.

Looks like a pretty cool original property coming from Lucasarts, all about using terrain deformation as a tool and a weapon. There's a demo up now on Marketplace and PS3, definitely gonna check it out.

Official site here.

Ok. Underground Torpedoes fucking ROCK.

I started one a while ago, but it seems no one was interested.

Color me surprised. Oh well. I enjoyed the demo quite a bit.

This game is fun as shit! Definitely didn't expect this, especially after what happened with The Force Unleashed. That demo is just the tutorial level in the game, there's so many new weapons and powerups I've gotten just in the first act.

This one's got sleeper hit written all over it.
I'm glad to hear it's better than expected.
I know the first thing I thought after beating the demo was, "Yeah, this is better than TFU." Running around and launching dudes into the air by raising the ground was hella fun.

How long is it? I am interested in renting it when it comes out if it's a shorter game. Not sure it's something I'll want to own given all the titles I plan to buy from now till X-mas.
Well the game is split up into 4 acts (plus the tutorial level) and the first took me about 4-5 hours, so if it stays at that rate I'd say a pretty standard 15-20 hour game. Plus the multiplayer. Haven't been able to try that out just yet (no one's online yet, but they have times set up for games) but it does look like a blast.

Also, to make you guys jealous, here's a weird bit of schwag I got with it. Lenticular placemat (I guess?)

It turns from a regular map of the US to the one of the future. FRACTURED. Takes up a good chunk of my coffee table and is real good for annoying significant others.

Yeah, my copy of that map went away pretty much first thing.

Still haven't thrown the game on; there's been too much other fun stuff arriving this week. Tomorrow, perhaps.
Yeah, it's hard to juggle this and Rock Band and DUKE.
And LBP and WipeOutHD and Batman and Crysis Warhead, which I should have played last week.

You guys have the best lives ever.

It's more fun when you yell "PULL!" before you launch them. And then you shoot them in the face as they fly through the air.

I was very surprised by how fun this demo was. Plus, it did something all demos should do - it holds our hand. We don't have the manual with us; give us the tutorial. Bioshock also did this well with its demo.

The Mercenaries 2 demo on the other hand just dumps you in the middle and wishes you luck. I quickly gave up on it. It may be a great game, but I like a demo to ease me in.

I thought they should have had a smallish multiplayer map with this demo, it would have really emphasized the strength of the game... but I like the demo.

Gonna be fun to mess around with these weapons in mp.

Whoops, only 3 Acts in the game. Took me about 15 hours to beat it on Hardcore (hardest difficulty, with 3 achievements for each act).

So, the game is leaps and bounds above TFU. Story's pretty expendable and last boss is boring but the game manages to stay fresh and exciting throughout.
It's no masterpiece but it's a damn fun game.

Russ, gonna have to grab you one day to play online- doesn't look like anyone else is playing yet. Hope the multiplayer's worth it, because there's not much replay value in the campaign.

Embargo ends Thursday, so that's when my review will go up!

Wow, I was bored as hell before I even finished the demo. Maybe I was in a wierd mood, but the "generic space marine" story line bored me to tears. The deformation of the geography was sorta fun, but this is definitely a rental for me.

Just want to point out that I should have had the review up yesterday, but it's apparently impossible to get some journalists together to play a game. Take that in mind when you read reviews online- people posted them without trying the mode out at all. Really scummy. There are only 5 people on the leaderboards that are all developers.
Is there a local multi option? If so, it's entirely possible that some reviews played multi on their own networks.

Some of them likely had their own private sessions with LucasArts as well.
There isn't. I don't doubt that the bigger sites did get some playtime with Lucasarts in but I read a couple of others that basically skipped over the multiplayer part.

game looks like it could be a lot of fun, but i forsee like with most XBL games a cheesefest occuring when the 15 year olds figure out glitches in the terrain system making the game impossible to enjoy.

At this point, its all about left 4 dead as far as multiplay goes this winter.
