Smallville Season 8 - Page 2

The Lionel/Lex dynamic is missed more than anything, IMO. Glover was awesome.

This episode wasn't too bad though it wasn't as good as the last four or five. My biggest problem with it stems from the fact that the fortress has the power to remove Brainiac from Chloe but has zero defense against it directly, which is especially retarded given that Brainiac has been in the fortress before and needed a special crystal in order to attempt to destroy it. I get that they just wanted a way to say "Doomsday is coming" but corrupting the fortress the same day its restored seemed like a waste since Clark's relationship with it has finally progressed somewhat. I guess this sets up Clark trying to once again set things right and in the season(and probably series) finale he stays to begin his training.

Crap. I was thinking of catching up, but CW's website only has the last two episodes. I guess I'm waiting for Blu Ray.

Say bit torrent and you lose a nut.

What season was the first without the original show runners, anyway? Maybe I'll start there and Netflix it.
I was waiting for Supernatural to come on and caught the tail end of the episode, and the preview for the next episode, I was surprised to see that Doomsday looks like Doomsday in it. I think I will check it out next week.

This is the first season with the new show runners. I dont know how much youve missed but if its just this season and last season then go ahead and skip last season and cut straight to this one, its a lot more painless that way. Anything before that and it gets a little hit and miss, especially around the love triangle nonsense.
Good to know. Thanks.
Last season had Lois dressed like "The Bride" (motorbike outfit) but in red, when she was looking for some illegal wrestling match.

It doesn't take too much to impress me, but that impresses me.

EDIT: Hmmmm. They seem to have pulled the images down... Dammit.
Here's a link to the trailer with Doomsday in it. Tasty.

Decent episode that could of used 1 more rewrite to make it as good as the previous episodes. that said, next episode looks to be promising.

I'm surprised nobody commented on the Doomsday episode yet, especially since it was actually really good (a rarity for this show, IMO). Lana didn't suck (!?!), the wedding was more violent than romantic (like all good ones should be!), and the storylines they've been hinting at all season finally started to converge.

I really liked Lana's reaction to Clark telling her he stole his secret from Chloe's mind. It makes me think he's going to regret that (which he should). Also, any idea why Chloe was smiling at Doomsday after he kidnapped her and gutted her fiancee? Is that supposed to indicate she's not Brainiac-free after all?

The shot of Lex at the end was a nice surprise. I have no idea how he fits into this, but it was cool just the same.

Who'd have imagined when this show was "Lana and Clark" that Lois would end up carrying the show? She's easily the most developed now (ahem), with a real personality, and the actress is doing a good job with the scenes where Lois' guard drops momentarily.

Yea, her eyes were all black so I think it means Brainiac has control now. On technicalities alone, how does Doomsday get to the fortress anyway? He doesnt have super speed and he doesnt have access to Clark's teleporter in the caves(if we're even supposed to remember that exsists).
Well since Brainiac took over the fortress, I'm sure he could of contacted him somehow.

While the overall episode seemed a little weak in areas, Doomsday giving internal injuries to Jimmy was the best 5 seconds of television EVER!

That and maybe Doomsday going down on Chloe in the Fortress (okay Brainiac came back).

Well, I'm no comic expert but Doomsday is suppose to be as fast, and as tough as Superman. How could he kill Superman if he couldn't hit him? Doomsday does the Hulk jump, so I suppose he hulk jumped to the barn and then to the fortress.
Good point, all Ive seen of Doomday was from that dvd movie that came out a year ago or so and I didnt remember him being super fast in that.
I enjoyed this week's episode alot although it felt like it was supposed to be a two parter or something since they spent plenty of time doing things and almost no time explaining anything. I dont know anything about the Legion other than what was covered in two episodes of Justice League Unlimited and because of that it took me over half the episode to have any idea what the two guys had for powers. The one had lightning bolts on his shirt which made it either electricity(Lightning Lad being his name solved that mystery) or speed and the other guy just really likes his over sized buttons. Until he came out and specifically said he would try to pull out Brainiac magnetically I still wasnt sure.

That said I really liked hearing the talk about the future and how they have turned Superman's memory into the figurehead for all heroes to aspire towards, it was a little cheesey at times but it was fun. Possessed Chloe was also pretty cool, especially since she was emulating James Marsters' manner of speaking to some extend(which is to say emphasis on seemingly every third word no matter where it falls in a sentence).
The actors playing the Legion were just TERRIBLE. Even for this show they were a step down. So glad they're not going to be reoccurring characters.
Did we need 3 hours to dismiss Lana going the Rogue way?
Is that really a spoiler? All of it will be reversed by the end of the episode.

Good to see Durance though.
The best part of that link are the apoplectic comments below from people that hate Lois and Durance because they want Superman to be with Chloe or Lana... could they possibly not be aware of the source material?

Now, I admittedly hate seeing Lana onscreen, but it's for logical reasons: The actress is terrible (cute, but terrible), the character is terrible, and her stories on the show are terrible (we'd have 99% fewer shots of Welling's blank doe-eyed stare without her). Plus we all know she's a dead-end, story-wise. And they managed in this last batch of episodes to make Lois Lane seem like Superman settled on a second choice. Nice.

I was actually enjoying the show (as it is) before this recent arc. Hopefully they can regain their footing... and hopefully they'll wrap it up this season. They keep tricking me by saying they're ending and making me think, "well, I can watch ONE MORE season to see how it ends". Bastards!
Just read on tv.com that its been renewed for a ninth season pending Tom Welling realizing he has no other prospects in acting and signing another contract. If it can maintain the quality of all this season before Lana showed up again(not including Legion, which wasnt bad) then this is really good news. Here's hoping they can pick up where that left off and continue for a further year, though it's anyones guess who the villain would be next time.
So... did Clark go back in time and kill himself?
Or, maybe original Clark killed his double from the future because he thought it was Bizarro, and then destroyed the ring to keep Bizarro from getting the ring in the future...

I don't know if I'm remembering this right, but did the league set up that ring for Clark to jump between the 31st century and the present? I didn't think they gave it to him with no limitation.

Yeah, and then the universe imploded. What a twist! (and SPOILER!)

Summary of my 'favorite' scenes:

LOIS: So when you go back in time, you're not going to tell me your secret, are you?

CLARK: Fuck no!

LOIS: I understand. It's not like I was completely understanding and supportive, or saved your ass from Tori Spelling or anything.

CLARK: It's because you're special.

---

LOIS (in a panic): Clark, Chloe just called and said -

CLARK: Pipe down, babe. Nothing you have to say could possibly be important enough to delay me putting on this ring for even one second.

LOIS: But it's about the secret that could doom the world and ruin your day -

CLARK: Lalalala! I can't hear you! Ha! I'm such a dick!

---

LOIS: So even though you seem to prefer bad actresses who boink your worst enemy, I'm go to emotionally expose myself and make the first move. Might you meet me halfway?

CLARK: I might...

CLARK (under his breath): I totally won't!

LOIS: What was that?

CLARK (making doe eyes): ...

---

I really hope they kill Chloe so I can get off this train.

This is gold. Invisible reps

Maybe despite a few random: How Jimmy got out of a hospital situation, tonites episode kicked a lot of ass.
I've been watching lately, mostly thanks to my devotion to Supernatural. It's pretty solid, at times. When this show first started I used to watch it all the time, but it lost me years ago. I highly doubt I'll ever watch those seasons, but I'm glad this one's been pretty good.
I like that they've sort of stuck with Doomsday's origin. That he kept dying and would come back adapted to what killed him, until he was an unstoppable monster.

It made the ending of this episode super predictable though... besides the whole Chloe being a whore thing.
Yeah but how many high school girls know that origin. I've said that Smallville is an awesome tool for allowing hot girls to have something with geeks. Still gets on my nerves when they say "Lana and Clark forever" "umm you know he ends up with Lois?" "what?!"
Soooooo, Clark is stiiiiil super oblivious to what he should be doing with all of those damn powers?
Why was there a slide bolt latch on the inside of the basement door?

Bloom stole my line. "Hey baby you keep my murder in check." The ladies swoon.

No, they have him set up as the heroic life saving Red Blue Blur of Metropolis. Pretty much an offscreen thing though.
Garbage. What a terrible terrible pile of shit season finale.

An entire season building up to 15 seconds of Superman vs. Doomsday?

So is next season's promise of Superman vs. Zod going to be equally awful and disappointing?

I really hate myself for watching this.
Wow, I guess they kind of ran out of money there. Though they do kind of set up Doomsday for how he shows up in the comics.

Kind of an odd way to explain why "Jimmy" Olsen in the show was the same age as everyone else. His parents gave their second son the same first name as their first child's middle name?

Why the fuck isn't Michael Rosenbaum on this show anymore again? He has literally done shit since leaving the show.

What was the point in bringing all that Kandor nonsense in so late in the game? Then it contained Zod instead? Somehow he was tricking her into bringing him into the world by saying she was saving Kandor?

I was really expecting Lois to show up in a time bubble saying "Clark you've got to come back with me!" "Back where?" "Back to the future!"
Since I missed the last three, what's the role of Lois in this finale?
Cosmic Boy brings Clark a new time travel Legion ring. Then later while Lois is having a cat fight with Tess she knocks it off Clark's desk, picks it up, and vanishes. The episode doesn't even give us a tease after that of what happened. Clark thinks she died, and they just go on without her.

That's all I needed...goodbye Smallville.

I thought this season had been a marked step up in quality (except for the brief Lana re-lapse)... but wow, that finale was awful. Burn the crops the previous eps had planted, then salt the field level of awful. Heroes-level awful.

I guess they figured, "Why tell one full story, when we can tell 5 half-stories?" Ugh.

It was actually going pretty well until Lana came back and then the wheels just fucking fell the fuck off. Smallville has never been a good show, but these last episodes weren't even watchable. It felt like they were performing strike drafts directed by scabs with no FX budget and only allowing one take. It was embarrassing.

Agreed. It will be hard to care about next season after the way this one ended. But, if it still leads into Supernatural, I will probably watch it - or at least the first few eps.

If they were going to move it to the worst spot of the week next season, why didn't they just let it end this season?

It's their highest rated show and it got those ratings on a very competitive Thursday 8 PM timeslot. They went through a lot of trouble (and money) to get Welling to sign on for not only next season but the one after. I'm almost certain the move is designed to 'see what this baby can do' and if the ratings faulter or the new 'vampire' show tanks, they'll go back to the status quo.

"Smallville" is moving to Friday nights in the fall, but that shouldn't be taken as a sign that the network's longest-running current series is on its way out.

"No," CW Entertainment president Dawn Ostroff says. "First of all, it's way too early" to talk about at the moment, as the show's producers haven't yet mapped out the storyline for season nine. "But no, it's not the last season," she adds. "Hopefully not." (For what it's worth, star Tom Welling has reportedly signed on for two more seasons.)
So all signs point to not the last season. Woot.
