Speaking of forum bitching, they've exploded tonight over this gem from the current working notes for the next patch:

Paladin - Lay on Hands can no longer be cast on yourself.

May I be the first one here to say BWA HA HA HA HA HA snort HA HA!

I don't PVP, so I'm sure that's great for making PVP a little more fair, but damn my pally tank is going to miss that.

I remember opining about this earlier, but it’s stuff like this that really illustrates why my interest has dwindled over time. The social aspects of this game have systematically been excised in favor of solo-play efficiency, and while that’s probably the right decision for a game with such a broad player base, it takes away from the value inherent to a persistent world.

I see both sides of the argument. Coming from a guy who generally only plays late at night, it can be very difficult to find a group to do anything. I would love to be in a guild where we had great participation with helpful members, etc. but that has been hard for me to find.

I hit 78 last night and I came to the sobering realization that I don't really know what to do when I hit 80. I know people run heroics or whatever, but I know nothing about any of that. I would like to learn, but I worry about finding a guild that will be willing to throw somebody like me into the mix (inexperienced, dressed in blues) not to mention a guild that actually does this stuff consistently later at night.

Wait...what? A new LFG system that will drop you right into a group for dungeons is damaging to the social aspect? Considering how beneficial it is to get groups for badges it's nothing but an improvement. If you want the social aspect from playing with friends on your server only, it's still there.
It reduces the incentive to actually getting to know people on your server, the same way cross-server battlegrounds, arenas and transfers have.

I’m not saying these are objectively bad changes, as the player base clearly couldn’t come up with a way to more broadly deal with group based objectives, but more and more I see a game where, eventually, individual servers become meaningless, and you have no idea who you’re playing with—or against—on any given day.
The new LFG tools broaden the social side of the game without forcing you to leave your own server or guild. Since launch the most difficult part of group content has been finding a group so you can begin. I was pleasantly surprised to see Blizzard move in this fashion to address one of the game's current shortcomings.

Some new soundbytes have been Datamined from the new Icecrown raid and Instances.

pretty interesting stuff.Makes me want 3.3 to hurry up and get here.

Niiiiiice. When I play WoW I'm either questing and grinding for an hour, doing a job on the side, or looking for a group for an instance, usually with very rare success. I still haven't done a Raid yet.

So fellas, how does Stormscale sound for a WoW guild? No complaints?
A CHUD guild and you're not going to title it "The Sewer" ?

And yeah, my guild fell apart. Started something new, but I really don't want to be an officer and go through guild building again. Fucking sucks.
My best friend and I are discussing going Horde side, just for a change of pace. Definitely interested in a Horde PVE guild if we get one going. I might even server change my warlock for shits and giggles.

Stormscale? Really?
If you are going to do a Chud guild it's gotta incorporate the name, no? Or at least something to do with the website.

The Sewer isn't bad. The Chewer Sewer, The Chudites or you could just totally sell out and go Chud.com.

And whats with this PvE stuff? Gotta go PvP.
Stormscale is a server, guys.
The Sewer Chewers is what we've always been called, that seems like the best name.

Not bad.

Are you guys seriously going to get a Chud guild together?

Had my fill of ganking within a month of launch. I still get a chill up my spine when entering STV.

I know what you're saying about STV, but it just takes a huge dynamic out of the game...the constant danger. Plus at some point you will be able to turn the tables.
There's enough constant danger from NPC mobs without having to worry about getting jumped by a stealthed night elf thirty levels higher than you while trying to talk to a vendor.

Yup. I enjoy playing the game, not running back from graveyards. If I want to PVP I'll go to a BG or WG, which I never do.

This happens like 2% of the time. I guess if you don't like being under the constant threat that's one thing. But danger from NPC mobs? What danger are you speaking of?

For me there is a certain excitement to questing and rounding corners only to find a member of the opposite faction staring me in the face. Does he want fight? Does he just want to ignore me and continue questing? Should I kill him because he is about to mine that titanium ore that I want to mine? Should I run because he is 8 levels above me? I just don't see why you would take this aspect out of the game because you get occasionally frustrated by the lvl 80 gnome rogue that attacks Tauren Mill.
My buddy and I are looking at Blackhand and Nesingwary right now. Trying to check on what the servers are like, and what guilds there are offering.

If PvP were like that, I'd be right there with you. But too often it's some level 60+ douche getting his/her jollies by griefing lower level characters who are just trying to use a flight master or buy items from a vendor.

It's not occasionally. I can't log in to my character at Tauren Mill without either a) getting ganked, b) seeing PCs and NPCs that have just been ganked or c) seeing the "Tauren Mills is under attack!" notification. Sure, I could leave and go somewhere else, but I shouldn't be denied access to content because some players are immature jerks.

For all its faults, Warhammer Online did PvP right. If you went to an area you were too high a level for, you got turned into a chicken with no gear and no abilities. So when you did run into an enemy PC, you were on an equal playing field, and there was a charge of excitement. Not the feeling of "Well, there goes that quest, better run like hell."
Different strokes for different folks I guess. I play on a PvP server now and there are certainly ganking hotspots that you need to navigate through carefully, but I have never cared too much about getting ganked knowing that one day I could do the same thing should I choose. Plus, if you are in a guild with some dedicated "friends" its always fun to call in the calvary to help clean up a situation.
It's been reported that the next content patch will install a function similar to the third-part Questhelper add-on.

I'm curious to know what you guys think, as the CHUD forums are not known for sympathy toward retards. Do you suppose players who find it a burden to follow written directions on where to go and what to do when you get there are likely to be worthwhile PuG or raid members?

Do you think they have enough curiosity to learn their class, spec, and role?

Do you find levelling so difficult that this addition to the game was necessary?
Is it an option that can be toggled on or off? If so I see no problem with it. I know that many quests I've dealt with have been maddeningly vague in terms of the physical locations of things, but I don't see this as a truly necessary addition. I don't see it as a game ruining one either. And again, if you can turn it off, I don't see it as an issue at all.

And I don't think the PuG or Raid comment is really valid, because instances and raids are such a world apart from basic world quests. You don't really "learn" anything about how to do them from killing 10 Moon Elk and getting 15 Saber Turtle Farts, you only really learn how to do raids by doing raids.
I love Carbonite, and have been using it for a long time. Blizzard wants to get away from lots of quest text, and into visualizing quests for the players. Just seems like another move in that direction. Wanting to finish quests quickly and easily doesn't correlate to raid skill.
I am down for a chud guild. I agree with Bob, pvp servers add that extra thrill, but to each their own. I started as hord on a pve server (Kaz Modan) and it's not bad. Eventually I got hooked on a pvp server (Bloodscalp) and now I hardly go back. It's definetly much easier to be in Tarren Mills/ Gadgetztan though.
Okay, I'm starting the guild today. It will be called The Chewer Sewer, and it will be on a high population PVP server, unless the majority of folks here want PVE?
I'd prefer PvE, but I'll go with the majority.
I won't mess with PVP. I hates it.
Mr. T has hacked the game again. Check around the starting zones.

The Murloco's Tacos T-shirt he's modelling can be had here.

3.3 hit today, the new 5 man instances in Icecrown are fucking epic.Hope i can get into the raid this weekend.
I can see the Random Dungeon thing really revitalizing the game for a lot of people. That's such a great idea.
The random dungeon tool is amazing. Tinkered with it a bit last night after fixing my add ons. If you use Xperl, I recommend Stuf until it is updated. Hoping to try out the new 5 man, and ICC this weekend. Possibly transferring to Rexxar to a really cool guild, but waiting to be accepted. Hope I get to sit with the cool kids.

Alright, it's been 24 hours. Who's beaten Arthas? And not silly 5 man Arthas, I'm talking the real deal.
Nobody has, because that's not in the game yet. They're opening the Icecrown raid in stages. Next phase opens in 28 more days.

Bah. I deserved that. Thank you, Brad, haven't gotten a chance to play it yet.
I think this is actually a better idea. People are going to whine about it since they can't just get Arthas on farm status right away and act like that actually makes them important people and not pathetic wastes of zygotic material, but stretching out the final raid before Cataclysm seems pretty smart.

Artificial road blocks ftw! At least they're being open about the roadblocks now instead of "accidentally" having things happen which keep guilds from advancing.
I had quit shortly after Burning Crusade, so tried the 10-day Trial for Lich King. Since they don't let you hit 71, it took one day to cancel again. Without the levelling hamster wheel, the game just feels too empty for me. It's a gigantic world filled with signposts and speedbumps.

WoW really reminds me of the Sims. Both games are filled with things to do, but none of them are all that interesting. In WoW, despite the massive world, if you want to accomplish anything, you're stuck on a pretty narrow path. There are few real challenges and even fewer surprises.

The trial was useful though - it reinforced that I won't be interested in any MMOs until someone breaks out of the tired mold that WoW follows. Blizzard has pretty much perfected this kind of game, but this kind of game tops out at "mildly amusing" for me.
Wow you couldn't have timed that post better, A-Pathetic.
I think Farsight really hit the nail on the head for me. The fact that there are much more engaging and captivating RPGs out there, combined with the fact that I neither have time nor patience for raiding, impelled me to stop playing months ago.

That said I am dying to know how Icecrown turns out. Just because, you know, as a fan of the Warcraft games, I need to know.
