Suggest some TV to me - Page 2

Cracker. The UK series has the most complex fascinating villains to match it's charismatic title character. Watch it.

Spooks (It's called MI5 in the US but that's just a butchered version of this series, the original UK uncut version is far superior) It's a really good series on the lives of men and working as spies.

Speedy recovery.

A couple of older recommendations would be:

Wonderfalls – Hour long drama/comedy. Good cast, good sense of humor but didn’t last long (13 eps).

From Earth to the Moon – Really excellent HBO docudrama on the space program from Mercury to Apollo. Lots of big names show up and give great performances. As an aerospace engineer, the episode that documents the design and construction of the lunar module was so dead on in describing how we think that it should be required viewing for students.

Coupling – Excellent UK comedy that tired to get an US start. Great writing, good cast and some of the best “speeches” on TV.

I’m a sucker for Deadliest Catch and Dirty Jobs.

I echo the recommendations of Psych, MI-5 (Spooks), Life on Mars, and suggest the miniseries Jekyll. Also, some Venture Bros and Burn Notice during your time off..oh yeah check out Top Gear..at least the episode where they go to Alabama ( its on youtube)

I would suggest Chuck. The first season just came out on DVD so if you haven't seen it I would do so ASAP.

I also love Hell's Kitchen and Burn Notice. My two cents.

Most of the good ones have already been mentioned, so I'll just throw in additional votes for State of Play (which is ri-goddamn-diculously brilliant), Weeds, Buffy, Wire, and Friday Night Lights. I also really like Dr. Who (the new version) and if you like Deadwood, it's worth giving John from Cincinatti a shot. A flawed show, but worth your time.

And, oh yeah, Homicide: Life on the Street and West Wing. Probably two of the finest network dramas out there.

You.bastard! I was just about to mention Homicide! For your fix on random pop-culture gags and what not, there's Robot Chicken and (to a lesser extent) Family Guy.

Along with Homicide, the first 3 seasons of Law & Order are pretty damn gritty with 3 different (all of em solid) lead detectives in each season.

Great show. Some of the biggest laughs I've ever had came from Wonderfalls.

Wonderfalls is excellent, as is another Bryan Fuller show, Pushing Daisies. Also, Buffy is far superior to Angel and not strictly for girls, thank you very much.

Seconding From the Earth To the Moon. A remarkable accomplishment with, as f86sabre noted, a real appreciation for the science involved.

I should probably watch Wonderfalls again, I remember liking it. I didn't realize that Pushing Daisies was the same guy. I almost bought John From Cincinatti the other day when I found it used, perhaps I should see if that place still has a copy.

I'll put in another reccomendation for Flight of the Conchords. Its a comedy less like an American sitcom but rather more like Brit-coms, which was a huge plus. Spaced was also mentioned; and to put in something new I'll suggest Black Books, a britcom I find very funny and re-watchable. There are 3 seasons of it, each 6 episodes. I imagine netflix would have them available, I purchased all 3 recently at a local store.

I know that there is probably another thread I should be bumping, but I can't find it. I am just finishing up "The Wire" and I want something a bit lighter. What should I watch next? I've narrowed it down to "The X-Files" and "Supernatural". Smarter people than me, what's yo answer?

I'd say go with Supernatural first, as there are only 5 seasons right now, so that's less to digest. Also, it just gets better with each season, and sets up a nice mythology that doesn't bog down the show.

Plus, it probably has the best soundtrack/use of music on TV right now.

Agreed.
