"David Blaine" and "fan" are two phrases that should never go together.

Unless it's to say "David Blaine plunged to his death into an industrial-sized ventillation fan".
Well said Dickson.
The only things I ever liked from Blaine were the parody "David Blaine: Street Magic" shorts from a while back.

God dammit, David Blaine...make yourself disappear.
Those were good parodies Doc.
Oh, they were fantastic parodies. I love the idiotic look on Blaine's face when he "impresses" the audience with his magical knowhow.

They were parodies with Blaine in them or parodies of Blaine?

No one. I smell Chewer gathering!
You guys realize you'd probably go to jail, right? I don't care much for Blaine, but I certainly wouldn't want to see any fine chewers getting community service on his behalf.
Who said we'd actually be doing it? I'm paying some local hood twenty bucks and a sandwich. I'll just stand by and watch the hilarity.

Carry on then.

Yeah right, where the fuck are the local hoods and the fuck-the-system types Brian Wood and Cory Doctorow keeping writing about? This is their time to shine.
...yes.

Wait, who? The second name sounds vaguely familiar, but only by its use in xkcd.

He wrote Little Brother, a fine novel about young people and their use of tech to fight the power, as it were. I don't see what that has to do with David Blaine, though.
Brian Wood is the one who writes DMZ. He also did LOCAL, DEMO and CHANNEL ZERO.

I'm reading one of Doctorow's books right now. A lot of technobabble, that's for damn sure.

Actually Kimbell I'm reading Little Brother right now. Coincidentally.

not long until the 'david_blaine_exploding_head.gif's will start to land in the .gif it thread!
I dig his slight of hand stuff, but this endurance silliness is tiresome.

Best week Ever

So apparently, Blaine isn't really hanging upside down 6-stories for 3 days straight. He's constantly getting "checked" and gets lowered down inches from the ground so he can chat with passers-by. I don't get this stunt. At all.

I'm really hoping this death dive delivers on its name.

I say get some sticks, whack him like a pinata.
Dumb. I preferred it when they were trying to freeze him. Or drown him.

Whatever, I forget. This one's easily the worst though. Why can't his stunts be done in the Alps?
his next stunt should be to see how long he could survive on the business end of that huge-ass atom smasher over in Europe.

I like the boots and that Asian chick they inhabit!

Ditto. Took me awhile before I noticed Blaine was in the shot, too.

I'm amazed Blaine gets as much press as he does for these "stunts". Back in MY day, we had Evel Knievel jumping busses, cars, Snake River Canyon, etc. THOSE were STUNTS, my friends! They happened quick, you might see someone get killed or maimed in spectacular fashion, and if he succeeded you felt proud to be an American (yes, Evel was an asshole when he wasn't jumping, but still...).

I weep for you young'uns today. We had white jumpsuits, swagger sticks, rocket cycles, fireworks, etc. You guys get a Starbucks employee doing an endurance test.

Well played, sir. Well played.

"Death dive" couldn't have been more anti-climactic. Why was this on TV for two hours?
Is it just me or did it look like maybe the stunt did not go off as planned? The bullet deal* was kind of cool and I enjoyed Kimbo Slice punching Blaine but that last "stunt" was retarded.

*was I the only one wishing the bullet had missed it's mark, you know maybe an inch and a half higher?

I refuse to watch anything Blaine related, but it sounds as if the Death Dive failed to deliver on its name. I denounce thee, God!

Edit: What is the bullet thing?
I'm surprised David Blane cheats.

Not really.

Washington (ANI): American magician David Blaine is said to have cheated in his latest stunt, which involves him hanging upside down for 60 hours. An eyewitness photographed him standing upright on September 23, and another reported Blaine had been taking breaks, from being hung upside down, by standing up about three times an hour.

Though the revelation has removed the charm from 35-year-old Blaine's latest stunt, his representative said that he never intended to stay upside down for 60 consecutive hours. "About once an hour he has to come down for a medical check, to stretch, and to relieve himself, because even David Blaine can't do that upside down," Fox News quoted Patrick Smith, an executive vice president at Rubenstein Associates, as saying.

He has said all along that there will be times when he must get his head above his heart. "The doctors told him if he doesn''t do that, he will die," the rep added. The magician had on September 22 stated that he was "doin' all right" after being strung upside down above Central Park's Wollman ice skating rink in New York City earlier that day. The spectacle is set to conclude in an ABC television special on September 24 night, when Blaine takes what he calls the "Dive of Death" and falls 44 feet to the ground.

They suckered me into watching the last 15 minutes. I turn to ABC for the news at 10pm, and this show is still on. I guess it was pushed back 15 minutes because of the President. With all the talk of this stunt in the news, I had no idea it was culminating in a TV special, much less a 2 hour one.

The bullet stunt was catching it in his mouth. The death dive, he just stepped off the platform, and slowly fell because he was hooked to a cable, hit the ground, and then was lifted into the air, out of sight. Then the announcer confirmed that what I saw was the most amazing thing ever, as the credits rolled.

I wonder how many of those "fans" interviewed were plants.
This guy sucks, but I have to admit enjoying his card tricks with people on the street. At least those were tricks.
Wow. That was a whole bag of inanity. The death dive consisted of him being lowered slowly and unsteadily on a cable?
Will Ferrell should do a Blaine parody next.

Yeah, I love card and coin tricks, and Blaine does 'em really well. Plus, he has better stooges (if any) than Criss Angel. If Blaine uses 'em, they're really good and natural actors, whereas Angel's can be spotted from a mile away. It helps overall.

The guy who cuts my hair is David Blaine's cousin. Apparently his mom is Puerto Rican or half-Puerto Rican or something. Anyways, he visits PR once in a blue moon. He told me he once showed him a trick where he made him pick a random card, put it back in the deck, lit the entire deck on fire and the only card that didn't get burnt or singed was the one he picked. This was improvised and just for his family members, mind you.

The only time I'd ever even consider watching anything with David Blaine is if there was a pay-per-view of him taking on Chris "Mindfreak" Angel in an Ultimate Fighting match to the death.

No matter who won, the world would be a better place...

Yeah, but then you'd have to watch Ultimate Fighting...Having them fight in a Gladiator dual to the death would be better.

On Conan NOW, Triumph is gonna rip Blaine.

Well, looks like the GOP just lost the Magician/Escape Artist vote.
