Photoshop Question

My wife and I just got a bunch of pictures from our daughters birthday party, and there's an element in the background of a few of them I want to cut completely out of the picture, and just blend it back in to look like its not there.

I know this can be done, because I took a photoshop class a while back and was able to do it then, it's just been a while since i've used Photoshop. So how would I go about doing this?

Depending on the element and the background, the clone stamp stool would work. Or if the background is free of any sort of detail that requires it to be tiled a certain way, just select a portion of it about as big as the element, go to Layer>New>Layer from Copy, and position the new layer/piece of the background over the element.

It's actually a person, who is sitting on our couch in a few pics, and standing around in others. I was thinking of using the quick mask took, and inverting the background with her to cut her out. So do you think the clone stamp tool would work on the area where she is, like the wall, the couch, and the floor?
