Californication Season 2

I just caught up on this show. I like it a lot. I had only seen bits and pieces --- only full episodes of the last three from the threesome to the wedding. I'm not sure where they'll go from here but --- again, like Weeds --- one of the more interesting family dynamics on television.

The father episode was the season's best. I'd say it's one of the better father/son narratives I've ever seen on television. Maybe movies too.

Yeah, that one was really good. I thought the end of the season was completely bizarre but I'm looking forward to the premiere this Sunday.

gravedigger --- how are you, my man? Hope you're well.

Yeah, doesn't seem like they can have the same show with the band back together but I'm sure they'll find ways to make it work.

I really enjoyed the first season, with the exception of maybe the last 10 seconds of the whole thing. You're right, it was bizarre and out of character (if I remember correctly, been awhile). As much as I want to see Hank, you know, ultimately win the gal, I'd like to see a couple more seasons of Duchovny doing his best John Ritter in Skin Deep thing.
I've seen the first couple of episodes of the new season, and believe me... it still works. I won't give any more details cuz I don't want to spoil it, but I love this show and the opening episodes to S2 do not disappoint.

Really good premiere. I thought for a second that the mouth-rapee was going to be Mia.

Hank should totally sue the hell out of that cop. I know it was played for comedy but a groin hit like that is considered lethal force.
This show is my new Entourage. I love the crazy stuff going on with Charlie and his wife and I'm glad Hank has a new guy to pal around with. I hope he doesn't turn into too much of a scapegoat for conflict between Hank and Karen.

I don't remember, did Karen get a chance to read the draft of Hank's book before Mia stole it? That should be fun once she reads the galley.

"Fuck me like I'm Al Qaeda."
"I'm declaring jihad on your pussy."

I can't believe the prissy sister from Dawson's Creek would ever say shit like that. Am I the only one watching this?
I'm watching it - I just never know what to say about it.

I found that girl so cute on Dawson's Creek, so those scenes left me... conflicted...
She was in Dawson's Creek? Andy?

But that Al Qaeda back in forth was hilarity.
I do enjoy this show quite a bit, but I'd be surprised if it goes past this season because the numbers have been fairly low since the premiere.

In the same boat. It's a fairly on the surface show, not much to delve into afterwards.
I don't know, I thought the first season was very forced and pretentious (the novels named after Slayer albums? Really?), but this season has been awesome all around. Even Duchovny has started opening his mouth more, his meant-to-express-a-fuck-all-attitude mumbling was getting on my nerves.

This show is fucking awesome.

Leoben is great.
Yea, ditto, fucking awesome. Loving this season.
So I totally missed the fact that Duchovny was in rehab for an addiction to... sex. Well, internet porn, at least. Inspiration for Charlie's little office mishap(s), I suppose.
Or they needed to drum up some publicity for the start of the season...
I'm enjoying everything this season but when is Karen going to read Mia's book? Every week I wait for Mia to get her comeuppance and it never happens. I thought they were setting it up as one of the big conflicts for the season in the first episode.
As I recall, Karen never read it when it was Hank's book.

Unless you meant that she'd recognize his writing style, which seems plausible (Charlie did, didn't he?).
I thought Karen did read the manuscript around the time Mia made a copy. Hmm, I wonder if the first season is on Showtime on Demand.
No she hadn't read it (I'm 99% sure) by the end of the season. I think she will know right away that it's Hank's. Like you, I've been waiting for that to happen.
I checked out of this show after the first few episodes of this season, but I recently caught up and I'm glad I did. The finale was pretty touching and I hear the show's been picked up for another season. Nice use of Warren Zevon in the last episode. Showtime already has the finale up on demand.

A few minutes into the finale, I realized I had missed the end of the previous episode so the Hollywood cemetery scene totally threw me off. Great statue though.

I liked this season because the focus seemed to shift a little from Hank being the maniac to Hank being surrounded by maniacs. Hank still had his moments, but others like Charlie and Ashby took things up a notch.
Where did you see the finale early?
The episodes are available a week early On Demand for Comcast customers.

Really unsatisfying resolution to one of the character's storyline; actually, most of the characters' story lines seemed to end somewhat abruptly. It almost seemed that this was a mid-season finale but I know we won't see this again until next Fall, if it even comes back.
My wife recently rented S1, and we've caught up on the series until now, and I have to say, I really hate this show. I tend to half-watch it while I'm on the computer after Dexter, and the smug self-importance of these schmucks makes me want to punch things. This is a show where a supposedly brilliant writer's most biting comeback is "smell ya later."

I read that it has been renewed for a 3rd season, which blows my mind.
There is some occasional idiotic dialogue but I think the actual stories make up for it.

But yeah, I can see how that could prohibit a person from liking the show.
Eh, I love it and as such am blind to any flaws it might have.

Enjoyed the last two episodes quite a bit. This season's finale was much, much better than the last 15 seconds of season 1.

I was underwhelmed by the first episode of the new season. It felt really forced.
I'm going to stick around for a bit and see if him getting a teaching gig does anything for the show, but if not I think I'm done with it. Californication just feels like Entourage: Novelist Edition.
I've seen half of season one and was really nicely surprised by it. Can't wait to watch more of it. It's good a real emotional centre. Cool.

The whole series feels really forced, but for some reason the characters are really charming.

Season 1 was fine up to the middle... I don't know what happened, maybe someone fired the original writers, but the rest of S1 and whole S2 was pathetic IMO.
First two eps of S3 look much more promising.
I can see others were rivited by this last episode as well.

I think I am done with this show. The premiere wasn't great and this episode was pretty fucking weak. First the idea that Moody, a professional writer and past critic of literature (and parent) would be so clueless as to give a brutally unfiltered reply to a teenage writer who obviously feels the need to retreat to a (lame) fantasy world. Then to have him act completely unphased because he's high on weed, because of course the high of weed is impenetrable to bad news. Is that suppose to be an endearing character trait? That he couldn't give a shit if the kid offed himself? I don't care either, but that's because it's bad writing. Then, not to worry, it was just a sad cry for attention, Moody really does care, and it's actually all totally okay. What was the point of this?

Add to that they seemed to have reincarated the slug you in the face and steal you book girl as a blond.

I mean, whatever, this is a fluff TV show, but it used to be a little bit entertaining.

I just hope that eventually that chick roommate's tits make an appearance.
Just started season 2, having a hard time getting into it. I guess Season One wrapped up so neatly and perfectly, I kind of wanted it to be the last time I saw the characters.

May quit now.

Agree, Jack. This show used to be charming. Now it's just sort of clueless and mean.
This show does have Eva Amurri as a stripper. If I had Showtime I'd tune in for that.
It's like they've turned the "wacky character trait factor" levels up to 13 for some reason. The characters were interesting enough last year. I mean, WTF Runkle?

Eva Amurri must be the co-ed with huge cans who is roomies with Gay Chuck Bass? She's not ugly.
So, uh, Eva Amurri was naked in this episode.
And it was glorious.

That's how a stripper scene is done. Hope there is more to come.
The only reason to tune in.

Reasons not to tune in:

Hank making a "no one puts DADDY in the corner" joke.
Hank mispronouncing Twitter.

The show has a minimum of 7-10 bad jokes/puns per episode.
Liquid compliment
Some minor Eva lapdance.
This show's a goofy male fantasy, but that last scene was highly entertaining. First time in a while (ever?) that I've immediately wanted to see the next episode.
I think the past two episodes have been much improved, and not just because of the stripper co-ed.

There is more truth to this post than perhaps any I have ever read.
