Yes, this is legitimate sexism. I don't see how this is related to your argument about sexism in those Palin jokes.

Diva, what 's your justification for the "My pussy's so hot" gif? Did that joke write itself as well?

How the FUCK is that sexist? Seriously. Is acknowledging that women have vaginas at all now sexist? Because fuck that. No pun intended. It's silly. It's wordplay. Lip reading nonsense. As sexist as, and apparently I must repeat myself, Biden saying something that could be mistaken for MY COCK IS GIGANTIC by a lip reader. Gender specific humor isn't sexist humor.

I know the question wasn't aimed at me, but come on now.

If that's true, you're right, that's a sexist lean, but I personally didn't see anyone predicting that she'd cry to gain sympathy, the only reference to crying I saw was in regards to how she might react to hard questioning, given her performance with Couric. I honestly don't feel that was a sexist thing, if Biden had been equally flummoxed by a simple interview with Couric, I think people would be betting on his possible stream of tears during a hardcore debate (a hardcore debate that never happened unfortunately).

If Palin hadn't been a bumbling idiot during her interview, I don't see the crying thing being brought up at all. It wasn't a gender issue, it was an intelligence issue.

My point goes beyond those jokes (and the C-nt shirts), just observations on how female politicians are sometimes represented by those who oppose them. You could really say this started as a discussion, at least for me, since the primaries and how some of us talked about Hillary Clinton. Heck, until that point, I didn't know "shrill" was such an offensive statement to women, so I'm trying to discuss that, the jokes, and the general criticisms of what is acceptable or not when talking about these politicians.

This is probably in the wrong thread btw.

You never got around to captioning this one yourself. Or did I misread the intended snicker?

Hahaha, good one. However, I think that is different, the first jokes that come to my mind of Biden have nothing to do with the fact that he is a man, and the one I had in mind for that one didn't rely on his own gender either. (the caption I was thinking I was going to make about another poster, and I'm glad I didn't).

The "My pussy's so hot" gif has nothing to do with her political persona, her record, her views or any quality that has bearing on whether or not she should be elected to office. It only has to do with the fact that she is female and some people find her attractive.

Moreover, I suspect Devin posted it just because it was the most obnoxious thing he could find following the reaction to the comic posted earlier.

So how is it NOT sexist?

So by your logic the picture I just posted of George W. Bush is sexist.
And when did Biden actually cry? Yeah, he got choked up, it wasn't like he let loose the waterworks like John Boehner. Christ.

Based on our previous discussions, I would say odds are that Palin or Clinton (Hillary) chocking up would have been seen here with much more suspision than Biden.

Why would a man holding a carrot be sexist?

Not entirely. It's toying with the notion that Palin is a righteous, Pro-Life, Jesus-obsessed puritan.

I thought it was a reference to Election, with Palin Track Flick, but that's just how I read it.

I know, which was the point of my response to ElCap., The crying references were completely unrelated. If Palin had handled herself AT ALL during the subsequent interviews, crying would have not entered into the debate talk. Had Biden been fucking clueless in interviews, then crying upon being stumped would have been on the table for him. The crying talk wasn't "she's a woman, she better not cry!" It was "holy fuck she looked so frustrated and stumped during these easy interviews over moderate questioning, if she faces harder questioning will she cry?" Had Biden done the same leading up to the debate, I feel similar language would have been used towards him.

edited for spelling, because I'm buzzed, due to a coworker having a birthday today

only buzzed though

MY PUSSY'S SO HOT is as sexist as Carrot Dick Bush. It's not. It's just ridiculous. Nothing more.

Seeing as how Biden lost his wife and two kids in a car accident, yeah, probably so.
Please be fair to my point and realize that I also included the reaction to Hillary "crying" during the primaries, which I've mentioned more than once already.

You are seriously losing it. One is a picture of a man holding a carrot, the other is an animated image of a woman with the caption "My pussy's so hot." You're comparing apples and toasters. I'm waiting for someone to make a joke about masturbating to the Bush holding a carrot picture.
That palin's president website is glorious. The Dart at the baby names killed me.

I do not think I'm the one who's losing it here.
No one is arguing that there isn't sexism in the campaign, the point is the joke.

Imagine you were telling that joke about her husband Todd.

Quote:
Q:What's the difference between your mouth and your wife's vagina?

A:Only some of the stuff that comes out of your wife's vagina is retarded.
In no way is that joke sexist. It is making fun of an unfortunate situation their family has to deal with and that babies come out of vaginas but in no way is it using gender bias to make the joke.

I understand that, but you're painting it too simplistically. Hillary is a known entity, and that entity has been painted with tendencies (also due to Bill) of being manipulative. When Hillary cried, people thought it seemed a bit forced, maybe due to the context of the moment, and maybe due to history with her and Bill. People didn't see her as being weak for it, they saw her as being fake. With Palin, we have someone that nobody expects to cry out of sympathy, not even republicans, due to her demeanor and position. Nobody thought she would embarrass herself by crying out of sympathy, or even forced sympathy. The only crying in reference to Palin was in regards to her being stumped worse than she was with Couric (which is fair, since we didn't realize the debate was going to be such a featherweight until afterwards). Biden's crying was in yet another context. He was responding to a charge from Palin that she understood a certain amount of hardship better. Biden, to his credit, after twenty-thirty odd years, including gaffes, doesn't have the reputation for faking emotion, so his reaction isn't the same as Hillary's. Nor is it the same as Palin's due to his lack of interview-disability. You really can't line up these crying moments and call sexism. They're too different.

Would the joke work if she were male? Where is the animation of Rick Santorum saying "my dick is so hard"?
Yep! That would work. In fact, I recall reading an AV Club article where Dan Savage suggested nicknaming a certain type of smegma "Santorum" as a way to recast Rick's outward distaste for homosexuals against him.
haha, there's some serious retarderation on display in this thread. I feel like myk HAS to be trolling here.

Have you honestly never been on the internet before? There are dozens of these "replace the actual words spoken with sexually suggestive phrase" things floating around, and they certainly aren't limited to Palin.

And yet, hasn't been done. Because Rick Santorum, in addition to being an odious, Bible thumping puritan, is not considered by any one except for Mrs. Santorum to be an attractive man.

I will say this... the gif would be funny if it was Phyllis Schlaffly instead of Sarah Palin.

The likelihood of that joke being made against a female politician rather than a male one is very high.

I mean, when was the last time you saw an article from a site like salon.com about a male politician???

Are you seriously this dense? Are you incapable of understanding CONTEXT? Palin was a beauty queen. A TV sportscaster. Part of the whole fucking reason they chose her is that she's hot. She's the sexy flip side to the Walking Dead nom. THAT WAS ON PURPOSE.

Jesus fucking Christ.

Yep. There's context that's important, but nobody wants to look at it. The insults come from that context, not from gender. It's just easier to say "they didn't make these insults towards him, but they do towards her, thus it must be sexist."

The only two root causes of 'misunderstanding' humor like the Palin gif:

1) You're somehow invested in Palin's casting as a puritan.
2) You don't understand the joke.

Now, now... pointing out sexist statements, etc. doesn't necessarily make a person humorless. There are serious, interesting, and, yes, even funny ways ways to talk about how gender (and, for that matter, race) are functioning in this election (please see the recent work of Samantha Bee, Tina Fey, and Amy Poehler). It's just that, uh, isn't happening in here. Really, really isn't happening in here.
And again ...

I guess that's both sexist and homophobic?

I can attest to drinking with many people and very few have torn out their own throats. No comment on the pint smashing.
