I Have Power!

A lot of you are probably thinking I'm ignoring PM's and emails when in fact I've been without power for 10 days! Here in Dayton we had a wind storm thanks to Hurricane Ike (winds over 70 mph).

Living without power for 10 days has been an experience!

Anyhow, I'll be catching up with everything in the next couple of days.

Welcome back! And glad to see you are doing Ok.

First order of business should be NoDiggity.

Seconded.

In the meantime a lot of stuff happened. Not really.

We've missed you Eileen, and I hope the power outage was the only damage from the storm you had to face.

Ditto.

Living in Orlando, I've seen some storms, but fortunately missed most of the inconveniences. As my mother would say "I thought you were in a ditch somewhere..."

Oooooooooh 70 mph winds. We eat those for breakfast here on the Gulf Coast. Just kidding Eileen, I just got my power back today from Ike as well. Of course I'm going home and turning on EVERYTHING.

Ten days without power sounds brutal. What creature-comfort did you miss most? I'd guess hot water.

Welcome back, Eileen. We missed you.

Welcome back, Eileen.

Ten days is inexcusable. Besides the hurricane, who's the culprit? Duke Energy?

Oh man ten freakin days! I once had no power for three. Took some of the coldest showers of my life. Not to mention I watched Blades of Glory to escape boredom. BLADES OF FREAKIN GLORY!

Wow. We lost our power for 3 days, and some other people we know were out for about 6 days, but I thought every was back up and running by day 7 or 8. Sorry to hear you were one of the last ones.

They said that everyone would be up by this past Sunday. Sorry to hear that, Eileen.

We had about five different groups of people (including one from Penn Power) come and assess the damage done to our power lines within the first three days of our power outage.

Thanks for the welcome back.

re: What I did for water - We still had running water and the water heater stayed on which WAS a major plus. I felt sorry for those who had water pumps that ran on electricity.

re: What comfort did I miss most? The coffee pot

re: Who's the culprit? Dayton Power & Light. If anything this situation exposed some things about our electric company. Outdated equipment, supervisors lack of leadership, etc. To say the least they have a lot to answer for and as of tonight there are still almost 10,000 in my area without power! It took an electric company from Illinois to get our power back on! Those men have their shit together as they came in, assessed the damange and got down to business.

Glad you're back up, Eileen. I'm in Deer Park, but I was lucky enough to have my power back Monday evening after the hurricane, so there wasn't much suffering on that front. However, I did have some damage to my house. That's probably the last hurricane I bother to stick around for.

After 10 days with no power I missed probably the AC at night time. I've got to where I damn near can't sleep unless my bedroom is 3 degrees hotter than the arctic. We had gas for heating water for baths, and I knew I could OV guide any TV shows I missed. So yeah, the AC.

We were without power for 5 days after the storm. My office also didn't have power so I got a free week of paid vacation. Would've been more enjoyable if I could have used that time to watch loads of flicks. Oh well.

Sadly the most interesting part of that week was vomiting because my wife lit 3 different scented candles.

That was lesson #1 in stocking up on candles for future emergencies. Never, ever light 3 to 4 candles that have different scents.
