Yes or No: Are Nazis still offensive?

Are Nazis still offensive? And I'm not talking about putting a Swastika on my VW, I'm talking about having Nazis as villains in my goofy Sci-Fi Horror/comedy. The stereotypical Col. Klink style-Nazi. The exaggerated German accent style Nazi. Illinois Nazis. Is it offensive? Am I making light of a serious point in our history? Am I an insensitive prick for doing this? I respect everybody's opinion here and I would love to hear you guys weigh in on this topic.

Not really. They are pretty damn hilarious though.

As long as they're on the receiving end of either bullets or comedy, I doubt if anyone, besides Nazis, will take offense.

That and maybe the ACLU. Those are some real uptight bastards.

I'm not sure you understand what the ACLU is about, that being freedom of speech. Did you mean the ADL?

You're right. My mistake.

You're damn right it is!!!!!

Mmmm, condescension is a hearty brew.

Hey I admit to it. I was wrong. Moving on.

Probably.

However, that Nazi kid in Eurotrip was hilarious.

Actually, the ACLU has gone to bat for the American Nazi party's right to have rallies in public places when they were being denied the right to do so by local authorities based on the content of their speech. Distasteful as it is, the ACLU still thought they should have the freedom to speak. As Voltaire said, "I may disagree with what you say, but I will fight to my dying breath for your right to say it."

That having been said, the ACLU also tries to stop menorah and nativity scene displays on public property with a bit too much alacrity, if you ask me, so yeah, they ARE uptight bastards sometimes, too.

And as Doc said, as long as the Nazis are clearly the heavy or the butt of your jokes, no one is likely to get offended. I mean, hey, Indy used them in his movies. . . .

Yeah, see? That's the tone I'm going for. That and Hellboy. Hellboy didn't have Nazis as the bad guys to make some grand statement or anything like that, they have Nazis in there because Nazis just make good villains! That's it! I'm not trying to be edging or controversial, hell, I was under the impression that they weren't offensive anymore.

I dunno. Sherri Moon and Sybil Danning looked pretty unoffensive to my cock.
