Grey's Anatomy Season 5

Dear Kevin McKidd,

Please relax your fucking forehead. You look like Gerard Butler's retarded cousin.

Bernadette Peters and James Pickens, Jr.,

Keep being awesome. Thanks.

Shonda Rhimes,

You get one more shot. Don't blow it. And don't expect me to like you just because you keep bringing back the Comedian.

Haha, I thought the same thing. I thought this premiere was not particularly good. Heigl's new haircut is cute and I look forward to Meredith's sister boiling a rabbit for George by the end of the season but that's about it.

I suppose Rose might join in on the rabbit-boiling party, too.

I have to say that the bit with the two women having to tell their friend every thirty seconds that her husband was dead was one of the more fucked up things on that show.
I thought the "Meredith and Cristina are old people" flash back / forward was pretty dumb. Although, the make up wasn't bad...

For myself, I found it comforting to be reminded as to why I hate the character of Meredith Grey so much. Dead Derek Dreams mean that she should, by all rights, end up a crack whore somewhere in an alleyway one of these days. Whoever came up with the "You're my person" shit needs to be locked in a room with Fleed and given a lecture on the character details of the classic GI Joe characters for about three days.

And there is no way on god's green earth that Meredith would have come up with an idea like the candle house. Rose? Sure. Addison? Yeah, I'll buy that. Meredith? Sorry...that would require her having awareness of something outside of her own personal space.

Love me some Izzie, though.

I'd forgotten just how much I hated Izzie. Meredith can be touch and go, but holy shit, do I despise Izzie Stevens. Especially when she lied to the wife. I'm sorry, but that is shitty as fuck.

Hey, it's Amy Madigan! And Frank Furillo! In a pretty crappy episode that still had some good Bailey, George, and Chief moments. That flooding shit was utterly underwhelming.

Also, I'm probably the last person on the planet to realize this but Hahn is the fat chick from Silence of the Lambs.
Holy shit! That's where I knew her from. I couldn't place it the entire time we were watching all of last season. I only knew her from one of the seasons of Weeds.

Shit, the reverse just happened -- I had wondering where I'd seen her before when I watched Weeds this past summer.
I don't think think this episode would have bugged me so much if the previews hadn't made it look like the entire hospital would be underwater if something wasn't done fast! You knew that wouldn't be the case, but they just can't help themselves with their advertising.

I know a lot of people got sick of George a long time ago, but this stuff lately is starting to bug me. I wish he would just pass the test and get back to being the sort of laid back buddies of the others. Oh, and I wish Izzy would catch and fire and run around screaming for the majority of the next episode only to die as Alex was fucking her charred, ragged corpse.

I really don't like Izzy.
Hahn was also the crazy, pregnant "champion" from SERIES 7: THE CONTENDERS. That's where I remembered her from.

Who wants to be George flunks the test again?

I didn't think it was possible for me to hate anybody more than I hated Mer, but Izzie continues to fill me with a white hot blinding rage.

Also, I read this on the grey's blog:

Quote:
Point is, I’m proud of Meredith that she got as far as she did. And I love that last scene where she stands up to Derek. She doesn’t get drunk. She doesn’t freak out. She doesn’t walk away. She doesn’t ignore him. She doesn’t leave him. She just stands there and tells him her truth. And that is so so so hard and so so so scary for her (as it is for a lot of us.) And what I love most is the look of shock on her face when it works. It’s so hard to change. For everyone I know, change and growth are deeply difficult tasks. And so it makes me happy for Meredith and Derek that they are taking baby steps toward happiness and function.
And all I can think of is Chris Rock: "You're supposed to, you dumb motherfucker. What you want, a cookie?"

The thing that I think pisses me off the most about this show is that we're expected to cheer on these people and embrace them for acting like adults.

Damn.

Word on the street is Brooke Smith's been shit-canned and her last episode is this week!?!

http://ausiellofiles.ew.com/2008/11/...-smith-le.html

Update: And the circle of homophobia continues at Disney. According to E! Online, Melissa George's upcoming appearance has been changed from how it was originally written and filmed. Her character will no longer be a lesbian.

The Callie/Hahn thing was offensive the second they revealed neither one of them had had a lesbian experience. Disappointing to say the least.

Unfortunately, we did not find that the magic and chemistry with Brooke's character would sustain in the long run.
And that would be because the storyline was ridiculous and very poorly written.

Outside of the Chief and return of the Nazi, this show is not very good this season.
Yeah I dont mind her being gone.

Her face reminds me of a late 90's era female version of Colm Meaney.
I did enjoy the little mouth wipe by Callie after one of her sessions with Hahn. I'm not sure if they meant it to come off the way it did, but I chuckled.

I have no problem with them dropping Hahn or Callie...or Izzie or Gray's sister or any of the new interns. I enjoy Sloan and Shepherd's interaction and anything from Bailey.

Damnit, why do I still watch this show?

Indeed. My wife watches that shit all the time.

I bought seasons 1-3 on DVD just for her to rewatch them every now and then, too.

After The Office, I spend the remainder of my Thursday night usually doing something with tools. And cars. Always while holding a football.

We're subjected to Izzie/Denny bullshit for the ten billionth time now. Joy.

Considering what a bitch Heigl's been in the press the last year or so, one wonders if T.R. Knight should start mouthing off too. I mean his character has been all but ignored - minus showing up at the start and end of the last few episodes.

If anyone should be complaining about not having anything to do as of late, it's him.
So...that was just it? Hahn evaporates into the parking lot? What happened? She quit her job?

That was a poor sendoff for a character that could have been key to the rest of the season. She could have easily filled the "Romano" or "Weaver" type of role. This show could use someone to drive the conflict a bit. Plus, we could have dropped a helicopter on her during sweeps.

So...Callie and McSteamy? That the plan at this point?
Rumors have been circulating the last few days that Sara Ramirez might also have been shit-canned...

That might explain the two or three new characters they're bringing in beginning next ep, huh?

Hahn was great. The lesbian storyline was dumb as hell, but I liked her character a lot. I haven't seen the last two weeks worth of episodes, but I thought she was a lot of fun and it's nice to see a character who doesn't give a shit about anything but the job most of the time. The show is so drenched in wussified emoting and whining (which I admit is KIND OF THE POINT) that I like when characters are dicks every so often.
The grown-ups on the show have really been sticking it to the whiny assholes over the past few episodes. It's been a refreshing change of pace. It's too bad that the episode where they set up some actually entertaining conflict with Hahn's character is her last. I suppose the way she'll be written out is that she couldn't take the lack of medical ethics at the hospital and decided to quit immediately.

If it's wrong to have a huge dudecrush on Jeffrey Dean Morgan, I don't want to be right.

I think the Mary McDonnell character, as a cardiac surgeon with Aspberger's, could be one of those "grown-ups." I hope.
Dr Hunt is the bees knees, IMO.
Yeah, I'm glad Hunt is on the show. And I hope they don't put him together with Yang and instead just use him as a contrast to all the other stale, soap-opera horseshit that permeates the rest of the show. Seeing him put Shepherd and Sloan in their place when they got miffed at him not calling them was great. Seeing him go off on others for their self-centered ways has been refreshing. Her and Bailey need to start tearing new assholes on a regular basis in this show.

Now thats what I call a horrible episode.
No kidding. The goodwill of bringing back Denny will last only so long, folks.
What goodwill? It's a cheap lame horrible plot device. It undermines that whole storyline back to the beginning. It's one of the most irritating things I've seen on network tv in the last few years.

Don't get me wrong: I love me some Denny. But geez...respect the character and the story and let it go. The whole "Meredith's Dead" bit with him was about all the closure we really needed, if that. He's gone. Izzie has trouble letting it go. Fine. Let's work it out in ways that don't look as if the producers did a study and found that 62.7% of viewers are pissed that they killed the guy off.

Roush Dispatch: Memo to Grey's: Give Up the Ghost!
Nov 14, 2008 09:46 AM ET by Matt Roush

Ghosts are big business on TV these days, I get it — wait till you see what CBS's Friday hit Ghost Whisperer has in store for Melinda and her newly deceased hubby Jim over the next few weeks. But where Grey's Anatomy is concerned, Izzie shouldn't have sent Alex to burn Denny's sweater to rid her of her dead lover's ghost — a J. Crew exorcism? She should have sent him out to burn the script.

When Grey's goes off the deep end (once literally, in the infamous arc in which Meredith drowned, encountering the persistent ghost of Denny in her dream limbo), it doesn't do so in half measures. You can almost admire a show for indulging its insanity so freely, except when the results are as silly and annoying as this Izzie-Denny storyline. (Coming on the heels of the Brooke Smith/Dr. Hahn debacle, this is not shaping up to be one of Grey's better months.) And what about poor Katherine Heigl. She took herself out of Emmy contention last season because she had nothing to play. Now she has something to play, and it's so ridiculous she might want to think about turning in her SAG card.

Such a shame, too, when you think of how tragically resonant Denny and Izzie's ill-fated doctor/heart patient romance was back in the day. A halcyon time before they dipped into the well once too often. Thankfully, Heigl is skilled enough (I was joking about the SAG card) to make most of it work, up to the point when Izzie opens her heart to Denny's stubborn spectre, telling him she only ever wanted to see him again but now that she can, it hurts too much not to be able to touch him. (Until that final scene, which I suppose meant to be transcendent instead of cringe-worthy.) I was rooting for poor, frantic, am-I-going-mad Izzie to put Denny to rest once and for all. No sighs in my house whenever Denny appears anymore. More like groans. Honestly, writers! Get a grip. Let Denny go.

There was an awful lot of crazy (even by Grey's standards) going on in Thursday's episode, including Mary McDonnell's peculiar guest shot as a fabled heart surgeon about whom the Chief warns in advance that she's a bit "off." Off as in: She won't look anyone in the eye, she babbles arcane facts about heart surgery, she has (drum roll) Asperger syndrome, a form of autism that Boston Legal regularly milks, through the dreadful character of Jerry, for comic effect. McDonnell, thankfully, was less grotesque than poignant. But I'm not sure we needed this in the same episode in which we're introduced to Mer's intern buddy Sadie, who seemed more whack job than free spirit by the time she whisks off her top in her introduction to Lexie's Secret Intern Society, opens a bloody cut on her back and chirps, "Who wants to stitch me up?" (Don't all the men's hands go up at once.) Oh yeah, regarding the interns' cellar club of human experimentation: Yuck.

I'm with Alex, who said early on in the episode: "I've already had my quota of crazy for the year." It's getting to where I begin to dread Grey's Anatomy heading into a sweeps month. They think they're pulling out the stops. I fear they're going down the drain.

Wait, Denny is actually a ghost now? I haven't seen the last three weeks. That's where they went? He's a ghost? And if so, why haven't half a billion Winchester Brothers jokes been made yet?

(Because those of us who watch both Supernatural and Grey's Anatomy are a rare, rare few.)

But seriously, a Watchmen tie-in would have been less lame than a ghost. Denny's identical twin Kenny would have been less lame.

'Grey's Anatomy' Scoop: How Long is Denny Back For?!
Nov 14, 2008, 04:35 PM by Michael Ausiello

Based on the flood of e-mails I've received in the past 18 hours with subject lines like, "WTF Denny!" and "OMFG Denny!" one or two (zillion) of you were surprised to learn that the late, lamented Denny's return to Grey's Anatomy did not end where it began last week.

Let me try and put it in perspective for you: Denny?! Seriously?!

When I broke the news last month that Jeffrey Dean Morgan would be popping up in the Nov. 6 episode, I was led to believe that it was just for that episode. Now, of course, it's obvious that not only is the dearly departed sticking around for the foreseeable future, but he's also the surprising Izzie suitor that series creator Shonda Rhimes teased over the summer.

"Izzie's got a love story, and it's a big one," she told TV Guide back in August, "one that I've been kicking around in my head for a bit, one that required me to take a huge leap of faith in myself, one that is so secret that I have not told anyone. Not the writers, not anyone."

Now that we all know, the big questions: How long will Denny continue to haunt Izzie? And where the heck is this story going? Although I haven't been able to nail down the exact length of Morgan's new lease on life, I'm told he'll be in at least five episodes. As far as where the story is headed, the most logical theory is that Rhimes is giving Izzie a brain tumor, which if inoperable would grant Katherine Heigl's (alleged) wish to go make movies full time.

But who says this story has to be logical? As Grey's writer Stacy McKee opined at greyswriters.com, "Maybe this is one connection that gets to defy all... common sense. Maybe it just gets to be. Even if it does seem too good to be true."

You mean I have to watch five new episodes of Grey's Anatomy now? Fuck.
I finally watched the new episode last night with the girl (who fucking loves Denny) and I couldn't help but make Supernatural jokes. I was hoping that Alex was gonna salt and burn the sweater. Also, maybe Izzy has a brain tumor and will die by the end of the season. I'd be fine with that.
Not that this show panders to its audience already but FIVE episodes with Denny? I'm gay for Jeffrey Dean Morgan as much as the next guy but COME ON.
If this Secret Intern deal really does descend into them actually performing freaking surgery on each other without any supervision...I'm not sure I could continue watching this show. Nothing is even remotely believable anymore. Izzy and the ghost horseshit, Alex actually turning into Mr. Sensitive (he is so BORING now...my god), that Meredith would ever have had anything to do with this wackjob intern who whips her shirt off and starts cutting herself at the drop of a hat, that interns who spent years and years of study and hard work getting to the point where they are would suddenly go brain dead stupid and blow everything they had hoped for so they could get some more practice and be a little ahead of the game.

The show used to feature all manner of gruesome medical phenomena. Multiple people impaled on poles, for example. Now it has sexy ghosts.

Also, is it just me, or are people not dying nearly as regularly as in previous seasons? Up until season 4, it seemed like around 60% of people who set foot in Seattle Grace ended ended up dying. That number jumps to 90% if you include bomb squad guys.
Yeah, I realized that after re-watching them all on dvd. Shit this week had a guy impaled with his own leg. But I just enjoyed seeing Seth Green bite it.
The early seasons are pretty damn good, I even got hooked with the help of a girlfriend at the time. But after sometime it just got annoying with story rehashing and not bring much of anything to a conclusion. I enjoy a good tease now and again but not every freaking week.

These reason alone is why I have stopped watching Heroes as well.
I'd say the first two seasons and a chunk of three are solid. I thought Rhimes & Co. rebounded big-time with those post-WGA Strike episodes from last season.

But alas, they've dropped the ball....again.

Exclusive: T.R. Knight negotiating 'Grey's Anatomy' exit
Dec 9, 2008, 12:12 PM | by Michael Ausiello

The revolving door at Grey's Anatomy has taken another shocking spin.

Multiple sources confirm that T.R. Knight has asked to be released from his contract, a request that both ABC and Grey's show-runner Shonda Rhimes appear poised to grant. "They're working out the details now," whispers an ABC insider. (A network rep was unavailable for comment.)

There's no word on when Knight would make his final appearance, but, contrary to a report on the gossip blog crazydaysandnights.com, he has not walked off the show. "He's still working," maintains my Grey's mole.

Rumors of Knight's unhappiness at Grey's date back to the early days of Isaiahgate. Per an insider, the actor was disappointed that it took Rhimes so long to publicly condemn Washington's use of the F-word, even as his co-stars (Katherine Heigl, Patrick Dempsey, etc.) rallied to his defense. (The incident led Knight to come out as a gay man.) The boss lady eventually released a statement denouncing Washington's behavior, but word is, it was too little, too late. Nonetheless, my Grey's source insists Knight does not want out of his contract for that reason, adding, "He just feels it's time to move on."

A spokesperson for Knight declined to comment for this story.

Knight's probable exit comes at a time when his character, George, has been given little to do, save for express concern over Izzie's mental state. There's no word if he'll be given a big on-screen send-off or be banished to Seattle Grace's parking garage with fellow gay Dr. Hahn. (I smell a spin-off!)

Got an exit scenario of your own you'd like to pitch? Shocked by Knight's decision? Given his lack of screen time this season, can you blame the guy for wanting to move on? Do you hope he takes his real-life BFF, Katherine Heigl, with him? Is Grey's cursed? Comment below!

Oh, and I saved the biggest surprise for last: Knight was not -- I repeat not -- the subject of my "fired actor" blind item last week.

http://ausiellofiles.ew.com/2008/12/post.html
With how awful this season has been and the fact that Rhimes & Co. have all but ignored his character, I can't blame the guy - especially considering how they've gone out of their way to make Heigl happy after she bitched about "not having anything to do!"
