Pulpit Freesom Sunday

"We have a right to talk about politics!" say religious pastors across the country.

Apparently this Sunday evangelical pastors are going to open it up in regards to this election and politics in general, and damn the IRS. What does everyone think about this? It's such a stupid move that even Jerry Falwell's son doesn't want to do it.

Discussion? Any churchgoers have pastors about to risk the wrath of the IRS tax-exempt status this Sunday?

Edit: FUCK! Misspelled freedom. Off to Guantanamo I go.

I hate this idea for so many reasons, I don't even know where to begin.

I was hoping you misspelled 'threesome'. I'd convert for that.

It seems more like an attempt to get a discussion going about churches' first amendment rights, and to rally the Right against the liberal government's unceasing attempts to destroy the Church and drive us all into the willing arms of Satan.

I guess I never knew there was a restriction and SERIOUSLY doubt that there aren't many, many churches who inject themselves into the political sphere through their sermons regularly.

Shit, I wish. I'd be yelling out God's name but with an entirely different context.

I hope every one of these churches gets hit with a massive tax bill.

Does anyone know if there have been any churches who *have* been hit with tax bills for this reason in the past? I know it's a law, but it seems to be a largely unenforced law...and I'd be interested to see if there are precedents.

Let's tax churches and destroy them. People won't be persecuted by anybody if nobody puts any of them around to begin with. This way if somebody wants to believe in God they can, and try to gather followers, but it will be difficult as churches are equal to other institutions. And they can say whatever they want! I believe in free speech. But will they bother without coddling from the government? I'd like to find out. You're not born with Jesus in your heart.
