This'll be one where I definitely toss the cardboard sleeve. The Joker art is way better than that Batpod nonsense.
Why'd they have to go with the Batpod cover?
It's weird, you'd figure Ledger would at least be on the cover you would see on the shelf at Best Buy.
Why the fuck the batpod??!
Dont fail me, Best Buy. An alternate cover for this is almost a necessity.
God that Batpod cover is stupid.

The R2 DVD cover is the 'Burning Bat' poster, looking at that advert on the DVD Active link it looks like the R1 single disc is 'Burning Bat' and the 2 disc is the stupid Batpod.

Sheer stupidity! Get that Batpod out of there completely.

Yeah, I'm hoping for a Steelbook that will inevitably sell out before I get to the store.
Eh, I'm used to the limited print bullshit. I've got a decent cover for my Kill Bill DVDs that I love, and been clutching my Munich Collector's Edition for dear life since I walked out of BB with the last copy. If I have to beat someone over the head with a tire iron to get the only good Dark Knight covers in existence, so be it.

Steelbook is looking like a FYE exclusive.

Great, only $19.99 after the $10 mail-in-rebate!
I definitely want The Dark Knight dvd with the Bat Pod cover. To me...The Dark Knight is the 4th best film of the year, the best Batman film, and I hope Christopher Nolan returns for Batman 3.

What's the first three, Fleed?
It is kind of weird that the single-disc version gets the best cover but I'm not surprised that they're leading with the worst piece of promo art from the entire campaign.

Crap.

I have no idea about one of them, but he did say in another thread that he preferred Iron Man and Hellboy 2.

And the entire advertising campaign was chock full of out-and-out GREAT poster designs, too.

I can deal with that.

Now finding one in stock, that's a different story. I think the only Steelbooks I've seen that didn't sell out really quickly were the Bourne Ultimatum ones at Best Buy, which it seemed no one wanted and hung out for weeks collecting dust. Granted, they were kind of lame.
See, that's the image you use for a fucking cover.
You're all the kind of people who bought comics for their collectors' edition covers, aren't you? Seriously, who gives a fuck and a half what's on the cover? How much time do you all plan on spending staring at the DVD case? I just want the damn movie. They can put Mamie Van Doren on the cover for all I care.
The Region 4 cover is a lot better; no Batpod.

They did the same thing with Begins. Much better look on the single disc...

InTheShadows, My top 3 are...
1) Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull
2) Iron Man
3) Hellboy II: The Golden Army
Don't tell me later on there will be a "Who So Serious?" special edition. That would be idiotic.

I can't believe how many people are so whiny about this shit, their are tons of movies out there that barely get a decent transfer, let alone a two-disc edition. Do you guys have nothing better to complain about?
EdHocken, There will not be a...Who So Serious special edition...however, there should instead be a...Why So Serious dvd se.
i'll just make a custom cover if i have to, the blu-ray will be mine.
Yeah, this is one I'm looking forward to on Blu-Ray.
So are the IMAX scenes going to be in FS?

The "Psychology of Batman" doc isn't too bad. Saw it when it played on TV. Was hoping for some commentaries this time around. Nuts.

I spend the extra dough for the 2 disc. I should have the better cover. Or atleast a 2 sided one I can pick.

That's misleading. I'm grumpy a lot of the time.

I do find this obsession with the DVD cover extremely odd, though. I don't see why anyone would care.
I got to agree. Who didn't buy a dvd of a movie they liked because the box art was shit?

You find it odd that some people who post here might be a little obsessive compulsive? Really?
Got to agree with Aqua on that one.
I'm so sick of Batman that I may skip this when it comes out.

As for the DVD cover stuff, I usually only ever see the spine, so I'm not bothered. As long as the text on the spine is easy to read (fuck you white text on silver foil background), I'm fine.
I was at an F.Y.E. earlier, and it looks like there will be a Joker steelbook, as there were two dvd cases displayed on the poster, one being of Batman, and the other being the Joker. I'm going to go to the local Samgoody tomorrow, since this F.Y.E. is 30 miles out of my way, and the Samgoody is closer, so I can find out if indeed there will be a Joker steelbook, so I can preorder it.

Woah, you guys have a Sam Goody? All those places went out of business and/or got replaced by FYE around here like 8 years ago (same company anyway, I guess.)

Between Hancock, Indy 4 and TDK, the single-discs are getting the superior DVD covers. Call it OCD, but whatever, I find it annoying.

Yeah, they died out over here, too, YEARS ago but there was a still-functional one in Ames, IA when I left there three years ago. It seemed to be doing pretty well for itself.

We still have three Suncoast stores open (same owners as Sam Goody, IIRC), one of them inside the same mall and not 500 feet away from a Spec*s (which is what F.Y.E. is called over here).

And we went from zero Best Buy's to four in 12 months. Progress!

Now that I got all that useless and uncalled for information out of the way, one last quick off-topic question: is there a website where you can see all the different versions of a DVD that are gonna come out? Like, all the "F.Y.E. exclusive" / "Best Buy exclusive" / "whatever" versions? I really hate only finding out about them when I see them a week after I buy the normal version.
The store-exclusive special editions are one of the many reasons I've gotten out of the movie collecting scene. I've simply decided not to care about special features anymore. It's too maddening.
You guys thought of any scintillating BobClark binder jokes yet?
Amazing enough, no one noticed that they went with the Batpod slipcover so they could use the Joker sleeve. Because, you see, the images are connected, and thus aren't jarring when put side-by-side or above/below one another.

Please don't tell me that after months of poring over every bit of advertising that this movie had, no one noticed that.

Of course, I'd rather buy a cover with the "Batman in the Penthouse" slipcover and "Joker in the Street" sleeve, but fuck it, I don't care - it's gonna be 1080p truck-tipping, Dent-burning, Heat-homaging carnage that I'm buying the damn (Blu-Ray) thing for.

Then again, I also don't hate the Bat-Pod poster. I even have it up on my wall.
I probably would have gone with this one...almost has a Criterion feel:

I don't think the anger over bad cover art stems from people wanting to stare at it all day or nuthin'. It's just when multi-million dollar home video marketing departments come up with such shit for big and/or beloved movies that's so frustrating.

At Walmart, the single-disc version will come with a mini comic and a replica of Harvey's coin:

there are no changes. Why should there be? They just cut the bottom and top off the Imax scenes and make it WS.
It looks like the transfer may switch back and forth between 1.85 for the IMAX footage and 2.35 for the 35mm footage to make sure to fill out the widescreen TVs. So you're not getting the FULL IMAX picture, but more than the 2.35 cropping would give you.
Well I watched it in hi-def 2 days ago at some dude's house and there were no changes in the aspect ration throughout the movie. It wasn't until today that I realized it must have been an illegal copy since the damn thing isn't out yet but it was definitely 1080p. Maybe you can choose in the menu if you want to view the Imax sequences in full frame.
Makes sense.
I managed to get my hands on The Dark Knight blu-ray last Thursday. The aspects do change throughout the film between 1:78 for IMAX and the regular 2:35.1
post #49 of 169
I got a 1080i copy yesterday pulled from a BluRay source, and it looks magnificent in AVI format, of all things. I'm gonna grab a copy in retail, but I just couldn't help it. This movie NEEDS the DTS though.

I noticed for next weeks flyer Best Buy Canada has this as an "exclusive":
