I was very excited to see the American Reunion movie. I saw American Pie just after college and remembered it was quite funny.
Jim, Michelle, Oz, Heather, Stifler reunite for their high school...
I guess I never knew the angst white people still had about saying the word nigger. Every white person I know who's seen this show touted that bit as the highlight. I live in a pretty progressive city, but it just never occurred to me that in this day and age any black person would find it offensive for white people to sing along to rap songs. I mean, Snoop's career is pretty much solid for life because of white people. Man, white folk love his music. People's response to that bit is pretty insightful to me.
What I liked about that bit was the point he was making, that context matters. But on the other hand, it's still a really touchy issue for a lot of people, white and black, and I can see where the angst comes from.
Well, he was clearly using it as a way to also comment on the use of the word "faggot," and I remember that there was that NYC Councilman who tried to ban "nigger" a year or so ago. If anything, that bit reminded me of the Columbine routine from his Bigger and Blacker special, where he was pointing out the obvious that nobody really wanted to talk about: "Whatever happened to crazy?"
I don't think anyone here missed the point of the "nigger" and "faggot" routines, but the "Whatever happened to crazy?" bit is funny while those were just kind of entertaining.
