A Fifth Alien Film

Sigourney Weaver has been reported to be talking with Ridley Scott about a fifth and last installment in the ALIEN series. From what I've heard, there's rumors that Fox is moving slowly on another film.

If Ridley could do another brilliant bookend film, I'd be all for it.

Yeah, i heard this too...

in 2000.

Burn.

Weaver said some stuff back in July about still being interested, but that's to be expected, since you know - she's not doing a whole lot else.

Scott's not shown a single ounce of interest in returning to this in a long, long time.

EDIT: And neither have many people. Especially those who created the AvP films.

Wouldn't say that. She's had a busy year.

I forgot about her Avatar thing.

I should correct myself, she hasn't had an Aliens-level paycheque in a while.

Gonna shoot that one down too?

You are. Aren't you?!

Goddamn, I just love all the stupid shit J.M. Prater says.

If there ever is to be a final film with Sigourney Weaver and Ridley Scott at the helm I'd be all for it. If not, forget it.

What the fuck could they possibly do?

There's a New Arctic?

At this point, a fifth Ripley film would be the ALIEN equivalent of CRYSTAL SKULL. Or maybe that was ALIEN RESURRECTION. So this would be even worse.

Having said that, I still think there's life left in a future/space-set ALIEN film. Maybe even a reboot of sorts, opening things up beyond Ripley. But no more of Tom Rothman's Present Day Earth AVP cheapies, please.

I can't see anyone besides Scott, or someone of his caliber, making a good fifth Alien film. Honestly though, I just can't see Scott wanting to go back to that well while the current regime is still there. Whether that reason being that Fox doesn't give a shit about their genre properties or maybe the sting from Kingdom of Heaven is still there.

I'm about as interested in a new Alien film as I am a new Puppetmaster film.

I'd rather see a new Demonic Toys films than all of the above.

I'd like to see Scott and Weaver have one last crack at it. I mean really, the series has been dragged down so low by this point, what could a new one possibly do to hurt its reputation?

Apathy.

I recall a story i read a few years ago in which Ridley Scott was interested in doing another Alien movie as a prequel to the first film. When the AvP were made he lost all interest in the franchise because it had sunk so low.

There was an ALIEN 5 script that was written in 2000 by a screenwriter I'd never heard of (forget his name). It was supposedly so horrible that it never even got a second pass.

Despite the fanboy yearnings, I somehow doubt Ridley Scott will return to the franchise. In all the recent interviews I've read/seen he comes off as very ambivalent about it. James Cameron, however, seems much more likely.

Cameron had actually started developing ALIEN 5. When he contacted Tom Rothman and the other execs they apparently didn't even want to hear his pitch/concept because they thought ALIEN VS. PREDATOR was where the franchise should go:

Keep in mind that this interview was from 2 years ago. I expect that when AVATAR comes out (most likely a hit) Fox will go crawling to Cameron to ressucitate the franchise. Especially since AvP 2 bombed. I suspect if he does it, someone else will direct.

Just keep John "I'm a franchise whore" Davis from coming anywhere near it.

hello folks, my first post on the message boards...

as far as this working or not...I think if you watch the alien special edition DVD...Scott, in his commentary, speculates doing another Alien in where we finally find the true nature of the species(they are biological weapon)....

I would assume that Scott, in a way to kind of give the franchise a proper send off, would make the movie about either the aliens ultimate distruction, the distruction of the human race, or the aliens evolving to a new level of concioussness where they lose their distructive nature and learn how to evolve past their instincts(this would be insanley hard to do...personally I would just do their ultimate distruction...because the last one is hippy bullshit...although I got to admit I would love to see a bunch of aliens break out into vaudvile type dancing ala "Spaceballs)

Another thing is, I wouldn't use Ripley anymore...especially the way her character is handled in Ressurection(to me that isn't Ripley at all..she died in Alien 3)...I would do the movie entirely from the perspective of the "space Jockey" species...the ones who were fossilized when Dallas and crew discovered them in the first film...

Anyways, I think it could work and I can easily see Scott doing this again if the right script came along..

so it seems we're at the precipice of a new installment in this interesting series of films. i thought it was proper to revive this thread by way of a push up.

I put money on the fact that this prequel will be by way of a ship of scientists investigating the derelict and presupposing what they think happened, unbeknownst of what is lurking just below the Space Jockey's lair. i would bet top dollar that Sigourney Weaver will be in this film.

Aliens Vs. Puppetmaster! It's a cinch!
I don't see how Sigourney Weaver can be in this film with it being a prequel. Unless, of course, she's playing someone other than Ripley which would be stupid.
There are plenty of scenerios that they could mine out of this franchise if they wanted to as long as they move away from the "it must have Ripley!" idea. Same goes for the Predator franchise. Both series have countless possibilities for multiple varied installments.........................someone just needs to get creative with them.
