Jenny Lewis -- Acid Tongue

Really good. Not as good as Rilo in their prime, but definitely better than Under the Blacklight.

And "Next Messiah" is pretty close to brilliant.

Maybe my expectations were too high or something, but this didn't do much for me at all on the first listen. I'd read some reviews that led me to believe it combined the hooks and pop genre-hopping of Under the Blacklight with the country vibe and substance of Rabbit Fur Coat, but it's lyrically repetitive and kind of boring, musically. It picks up a little on "See Fernando" and the Costello duet, but, surprisingly, it thrilled me so little that I barely want to give it a second chance (though I'm sure I will).

As for "The Next Messiah," well, it's long. So that's kind of different for her, I guess.

Saw Jenny with Conor Oberst in Fayetteville. Love.

As for the album, overall I think Rabbit Fur Coat is superior, but I keep finding my self listening to Acid Tongue every other day. I think the main proponent for the album is that it really showcases how much range Jenny's mesmerizing voice has. Nearly every song, she can take it to a different level.
