Chewer Halloween Mixed CD Swap?

Thread Starter
Any interest in doing something like this? The only requirements would be 1) that the disc be themed to the holiday in some way (Halloween/monster themed songs, tracks from Halloween/horror soundtracks, scary sound effects, whatever) and 2) that everyone gets their discs before the 31st. I'd be willing to set up the pairings if there's enough interest.
I'd be up for this, I'd also be willing to swap using RAR'd playlists instead of actual discs to try and ease the financial strain of posting abroad.
So very in for this.

Definitely in. And RAR'd playlists sound like the easiest way to go.
Hell yes.

If we go the RAR route, would someone be willing to put together a quick "how to" for those who may not be familiar or comfortable with the process?
I'd do it, but I've been burned in 2 of the last 3 mix swaps we did.
If we're doing RARs then the, horribly inefficient, way to it is thus.

1) I go to Itunes and assemble my playlist.

2) I copy and paste straight from Itunes into a new folder on the desktop.

3) Using a programme like winamp I import these copied files.

4) I put these imported files into their own playlist, sort out the track order, and then go to playlist settings and export the M3U file into the same file as the tracks.

5) Then I use a programme like WinRar to make that folder into a Rar and upload it to a site like mediafire.

I'm sure there are a ton of easier ways though.
1) Create a Folder for your CD
2) Copy the MP3's you want to use into the folder
3) Right click on the folder and click "create archive."

And that's pretty much it. You can delete the MP3 copies after the archive is created.

I have a KeyGen for WinRAR if someone is looking to dl the program.
What about sequencing the MP3s for the playlist itself, how do you create M3U files?
Sequencing, I figured just putting the track number in front of the file would put them in the correct order.

But if we're doing M3U files, your way is probably best.
so you rename your files? Probably much quicker/easier.
RAR or no, I would like to take part.

I would say once the pair-ups are made, just get with your partner and decide what format you want to use. I don't think anyone would have a problem receiving an actual disc.
I'm in for it, Rared or otherwise.

I'll let people sign up through the weekend and post the pairings some time on Monday.
I'm always up for one of these.
I'm up for doing a RAR for somebody.
I'd prefer to RAR if we need to specify. Its faster, easier, and cheaper.

I'm collecting Halloween music on my computer as I type this.
This sounds like a great idea. I'll do it.

And I like the idea of just posting files, but I'm good with CD's as well.

I'm hoping you're counting our exchange year as the year you didn't get burned....
You guy's might like to check out Armagideon Time blog. The guy who runs it is doing a Halloween song countdown. Plus he uses comic panels to express his points. Fun stuff.
Well getting ideas from someone's blog would kind of kill the whole personal touch of a CD swap. I wouldn't want to think that people were buying new songs just to put in these things. I like finding out what people actually have in their collections.
So, this has to be Halloween themed then?

Okay, now I'm going to have rethink my mix.
Whoever gets me: Prepare to have trouble sleeping.
I'm going to try and avoid any overly obvious songs on mine. Please, for the love of God, no one put Every Day is Halloween on your mix.

Doesn't have to be specifically Halloween, just something with an overall creepy/eerie/scary mood.

I've got the following as definitely in:

Richard Dickson
Spike Marshall
Justin Clark
InTheShadows
Parker
Mattioli
bendrix
KABONG
S Nabors
RyanC
Greg David

Chris Miller and Casey Moore posted in the thread but didn't indicate they were participating. Let me know if you guys want in.
I would count me out, unless all you want is Monster Mash and Werewolf Bar Mitzvah.
I am going back to work, so I will be scarce the rest of the month; so I am out. Just wanted to post that blog since saw you were doing this.
I don't know how many creepy tracks I have in my collection, but I could throw together something that could qualify as a Halloween/Fall mix.

Excellent! Thanks, Richard. My disc or discs will be going out by the end of the week.
Same here.

Get ready for some interesting shit, Seacup.
Awesome. Bendrix and I have already corresponded. Thanks for organizing, Richard.

Try to contact your partner by the end of the week. That way if someone is AWOL, we can make alternate arrangements.
Nice. Looking forward to it. I already have most of mine made up (I was just going to put something together for myself before I saw this thread) so I'm good to go anytime.
Dickson, thanks for handling this thing. Justin Clark, I'll start working on yours this coming weekend and will be in touch.
Dickson, it's a busy week, but I'll get your's out by the weekend.
I'm finalizing my tracklist today. Should have this done by Monday, tops.
Having to make it scary is kicking my ass. The mix will be done, it's just taking a while for it to formulate.
No problem, Spike. I keep reevaluating my list for you too. It's basically done, but I'm tweaking it. Let me know where I'm sending it to, also.
RyanC, your disc is done. A lot of repeating artists from my last mixes this time around, but make no mistake....be afraid. Be very afraid.

By the way, Dickson, offer's still up in the air if you want a copy to make up for your newfound lack of partner.

Nah, it's okay. Everyone else have fun with it!
I was burning the CD's today, and I ran into a weird snag. Maybe somebody here can explain this. I used an MP3 editor to trim one of the tracks from 3:33 down to 2:00. iTunes sees it at its new proper length both in the main music area, and in the playlist. But every time I burn the disc, it's convinced that the track is still 3:33, and leaves a minute and a half of blank space at the end of the track. I even rebooted the computer, to no avail. Same problem.

I've used this MP3 editor before, and never run into this. What the hell?
What MP3 editor are you using?
Parker, your CD is on its way. I'll send you a tracklist once you get it. Enjoy.

It's called Goldwave.

I've never used that before.

I can only suggest you run the track through the editor again to see if there is that stretch of silence on the track.
