I have the Alcohol Poisoning Center on speed dial in anticipation, myself. I'll be coming to this thread in an attempt to keep my sanity and not destroy my television in a fit of rage and bewilderment.

Start drinking now, old man. It'll take the edge off.
VCR is cued up and primed, finger's twitching over the REC button. I want some history for the bookshelf. (Please don't disappoint me, history.)

Oh, and the last 3 fingers of a gifted Johnny Walker Blue.

I love that we're all reaching for the brown liquors tonight.
Grabbing a sixer of the good stuff (Racer 5). Promising self not to play drinking game, even if it's suggested.
I got my IRON MAN Blu primed in case I get too pissed off to watch.
Guys...CHUD Chat VP Debate watch a long? If only so we can call emergency rescue for the others.

So, is there a "every time Palin says something stupid or non-committal" drinking game? Or would that tip the scales towards McCain because all the Dems would have drank themselves to an early grave?

Oh man, I'd save that for Nov. 4th, either in celebration or defeat.

Vodka just won't cut it tonight. I've got some decent whiskey and a six-pack of Guinness. I hope it holds out...
I am playing poker tonight. Rich friends and poker are to things that go good together.

Argument against CHUD chat: I want our comments saved for posterity.

Oh, I've also got some Rum at home. Which may or may not come into play.

Yeah, I was just starting to talk myself out of it (the bottle's so nice to see on the shelf). Election night's an excellent call.

Maybe tonight deserves the bottom half of the leftover vacation jug of Evan Williams. Then I can try to guess if it's the TV or the drink making me wince.

Andre, Racer 5 is fucking beautiful, gold star stuff. I mean, are you flirting with me or somethng?
I'm a girly girl! *giggles, twirls hair* I'm going to make a pitcher of margaritas!

Won't mention how much Tequila is going into it though. I'm a lady. *hiccup*

This. How on earth are we going to have a high-quality smartass pissing contest unless we know it's going to count?
Hopes: Biden says something like "Thanks, Tina."
Also: "You seem to have no idea what you're talking about."

Highballs are for old white people! This is McCain's Island, after all.

(Kidding! I kid the old white Islanders.)
I say we drink ever single time Palin says, "clear choice", "Maverick", and "will fight for you"--the last in any context.

Alright, let's be scientific about this:

I'm watching this go down on PBS. Who's got the stones to watch it on Fox?

Excuse my poor international date-time abilities, but how many hours till this thing starts? I won't be able to watch it at work, but I'm keen to read the CHUD responses as it goes on.

I wouldn't even watch the debates on Fox for charity!

We're about 160 minutes away (I think. It's starts at 9:00 EST, right?)

ETA: So no Office, right?

The wife and I have our alcohols of choice ready to go in anticipation. She's not quite as in to politics as I am, but I promised her hilarity, and that I'd watch Iron Man with her first. A local radio station assembled a list of suggestions of a drinking game (with the disclaimer that one should only choose SOME, not ALL, of the suggestions and should not take shots, merely swigs of a drink of choice).

The list is as follows (not a great one, admittedly):
my opponent
any old-school female reference (honey, doll, sweetheart)
Obama/McCain
Alaska
Russia
Bridge to Nowhere
reigning in
shore up
microchosm
Clinton
shake up Washington
change
Vice-President
anytime Biden goes over alotted time
economy
any reference to age
fundamentals
experience
hockey Mom
pipeline
Maverick
Main Street or Wall Street
good ole boys or old boy network
the ticket
calling Moderator by first name to stall for time
Senator
recession
Between this and the playoffs, I am never going to get around to watching Iron Man...
I would love to watch it on Fox, for the same reasons I listen to Rush Limbaugh occasionally (to make myself very, very, angry. My day to day existence is too peaceful) but I swore off television long ago and therefore will have to resort to watching it online.
Fuck, I don't get off work until 6:00. Hello, DVR!

I wish I was going to a debate party. This thing is going to play like Rocky Horror.

I've got a copy of the Constitution that I'm going to cling to in the dark moments.
I participated in a "Watching Live" Presidential Debate thread on a military board.

The McCain supporters are still trying to find out where I live. Won't be doing that this time.

I'll be switching back and forth between this and the Canadian leader's debate. I'm counting on you guys to keep me in the loop as to what's happening down there.
Kreskin says: this will get bigger ratings than last week's debate.
They have politics in Canada? Aaaw...that's cute.

That reminds me of the recent flak caught by Kathleen Parker when she, a conservative Republican, called for Palin to resign from the ticket for the good of the party.

She was shocked, shocked, by the fact that conservative wingnuts sent vile, threatening letters to her.

Quote:
After 20 years of column writing, I'm familiar with angry mail. But the past few days have produced responses of a different order. Not just angry, but vicious and threatening.
20 years of conservative punditry, and the first time she goes against the neocon grain she gets letters that alarm her. "Welcome to the party, pal."
My prediction? She'll perform just fine. And what I mean by that is that she'll talk alot and it'll sound good but she won't be saying anything. I'm just not expecting anything like a James Stockdale situation here.

Let's play some odds though.......

She'll totally crash and burn on the level of the Couric interview: 1:10 chance

This whole month has been one long Rovian headgame and she'll come out dropping science on domestic and foreign affairs with frightening detail: 1:200 chance

She'll be folksy and charming and content free: 1:2 chance.

How do others feel?

It's very polite politics with questions involving taxes on beaver pelts and how many hockey sticks/Bryan Adams CDs each baby is given at birth.

She IS folksy and charming and content-free. Hell, she embodies it. She's a younger, more attractive version of Bush. <shudders>

I just hope Biden's got his shit together and is on his A-game.
