Hmm, you left out "If she winked at me, my manhood would stand at attention."

I wish all the guys who have a sexual crush on Palin would just start a thread about it already, so they could wank in peace and we can continue to engage in all our horrible rhetoric and hyperbole.

Oh yes, let's keep up that high level of intelligent discussion in this thread so far ...

I think she took it too far. I live amonst many "folk" and I don't think I've ever actually heard anyone seriously use "doggone" in my entire life. It sounded like she was a learning disabled space alien trying to imitate a human by mimicking what it had seen on TV.

Sex invading every other post is here is amazing. You wacky guys and your boners. I can't imagine the reaction if I went on and on about wanting Barack Obama to nail me.
Is it not enough that the woman is in well over her head and was just soundly beaten in a debate on the national stage? Must we compare her intelligence to that of a 9 year old? Really?

Hey Farsight... 99% of the people in this fucking country are 'rooting for a team', that's what this whole thing is in the national arena. The difference is some of them are just oh-so-gleeful about the fact they are are up by 2 touchdowns late in the game, cause they get to talk shit until the final whistle blows. Who knows what their true character is? We won't know until Obama is running for re-election after 3 bad years, when the GOP can do all the finger pointing.

It's the same shit, for the most part. Hell neither of them are Bush, so I say there's nowhere to go but up.

I bet the SNL sketch will have Palin hitting on Biden.

Care to cite some studies on that or is that just according to you?

Christ dude, you need some smelling salts and a fainting couch? Calm down. It's a political forum on a movie message board, not the Algonquin Round Table.

During my bike ride today, I noticed at least 5 McCain/Palin signs posted in yards and hanging in windows.

Not that it means anything, but since they weren't there yesterday, I'm guessing these people are "re-engergized". *Wow, too bad we're not drinking tonight*

I don't do signs and bumper stickers and whatnot, but damn is it tempting.

It was more in response to his first statement, that a wink from her would arouse him. To me, that's stronger than "not ugly".

There's a pretty wide gulf between Palin and a swimsuit model. That was the point I was trying to make, that people are acting like Jessica Alba is running for VP, when in reality it's Tina Fey's mom.

Am I "scoring" swimsuit models? No. But every woman I've ever dated was more attractive than Palin, both physically and (especially) in terms of personality and intelligence. And I don't consider that a big boast.

I call BS. First off, nowhere near 99% of people identify themselves as belonging to either party. Second, even my cynical nature allows for the likelihood that at least a few people that vote mainly along party lines (for either side) are capable of noticing when that party's ideals are no longer recognizable.

Even if I were to grant you that EVERYONE roots for a team instead of using their brains, it wouldn't change the fact that it's a stupid and damaging way to think about politics. The "everyone else does it!" defense is a really awful reason to do anything.

We haven't hit rock bottom yet. Shrugging and assuming we already have is a very bad idea.

Exactly. And it's not just in here. Every other comment I hear from people about Palin is about how pretty she is. It's bizarre (and leads to exaggerated message board posts!).

My comments about her looks weren't meant to disparage her (I have my comments about her personality, intelligence and communication skills to cover that!). I never said she was ugly, it just blows my mind that so many people are treating her like a sex symbol (including the media and foriegn heads of state). It's a depressing commentary on the state of modern society that it only takes a decent-looking woman to alter the thinking processes of so many men, and that she can successfully play up those aspects to mask her deficencies in any small way.

It may be considered more acceptable, but it's no better than if people kept commenting on how "articulate" and "well-spoken" Obama is. The shock at the existence of a female politician that isn't a crone is simple sexism, and it deserves to be called out constantly, even if it's only through my uneven posts.

Palin has destroyed my enjoyment of six packs. I just can't buy them any more.

For those of you not watching Bill Maher, you should be. It's a good one tonight.

Debate analysis: Palin spoke at 10th-grade level, Biden at eighth

Interesting fluff from CNN.com...

Quote:
His analysis ranked the candidates' speech on several other levels, too. Here's the breakdown:

Grade level: Biden, 7.8; Palin, 9.5 (Newspapers are typically written to a sixth-grade reading level.)

Sentences per paragraph: statistically tied at 2.7 for Biden and 2.6 for Palin.

Parking permit good for: 2 hours

Letters per word: tied at 4.4.

Fastest animal on Earth: the cheetah

Ease of reading: Biden, 66.7 (with 100 being the easiest to read or hear), versus 62.4 for Palin.

Orgasms faked: Yes

The analysis said Abraham Lincoln spoke at an 11th-grade level during his seven debates in 1858 against incumbent Stephen A. Douglas in their race for a Senate seat from Illinois.
What the fuck? How can you even apply modern grade standards to speeches that old? And she was the one with all that folksy bullshit. How does that equate higher grade level? Seriously, how the fuck do these people get jobs?

CNN = fail.

They buried this near the end:

Quote:
But higher grade level doesn't necessarily mean better sentence, Payack said. He pointed to Palin's second-to-last sentence in the debate, which the formula put at a grade level of 18.3:

"What I would do, also, if that were ever to happen, though, is to continue the good work he is so committed to of putting government back on the side of the people and get rid of the greed and corruption on Wall Street and in Washington," Palin said.

"When she said it, it sounded good, but on paper it's a completely different animal," Payack said. "It's like, what is that?"
Basically, run-on sentences and word vomit are rewarded as being "smarter".

Biden said, "turpitude."

Palin said, "doggone."

What?

Palin's sentences are a higher grade level because she speaks in Dadaesque Free Verse.

Or, to look at it from another perspective, run-on sentences and word vomit are punished for being more difficult to understand. It's not that the sentences are smarter, it's that the person hearing the sentences needs to be better educated to make any sense out of them.

There are certain things that can artificially inflate the reading level of a statement: poor sentence structure, poor word choice, jargon, etc. It doesn't mean the content is worthwhile. I'm disappointed (but not surprised) that the article didn't point that out very well.

I have to deal with reading levels every day at my job. I'm supposed to write articles at a ninth-grade reading level.

You would have to be a Gandalf level wizard to decipher her sentences.

Palin was chosen for her (perceived) sex appeal and loyalty to a theocratic agenda - her job qualifications obviously never entered into it. As such, it seems natural that people discuss her in the same shallow terms used to present her to us.

I defer to the expert in my pants.

The format for tonight's Town Hall meeting:

Quote:
Tuesday's match-up at Belmont University in Nashville, Tenn., will be moderated by NBC's Tom Brokaw, with the questions to be culled from a group of 100 to 150 uncommitted likely voters in the audience and another one-third to come via the Internet. The Gallup Organization -- as in past debates like this -- has the job of making sure the questioners reflect the demographic makeup of the nation.

Brokaw selects the questions to ask from written queries submitted prior to the debate, according to the "contract."

An audience member will not be allowed to switch questions. Under the deal, the moderator may not ask followups or make comments. The person who asks the question will not be allowed a follow-up either, and his or her microphone will be turned off after the question is read. A camera shot will only be shown of the person asking -- not reacting.

While there will be director's chairs (with backs and foot rests), McCain and Obama will be allowed to stand -- but they can't roam past their "designated area" to be marked on the stage. McCain and Obama are not supposed to ask each other direct questions.

As in all the debates, the contenders cannot bring in notes, though they can take them once at the lectern.

Sarah Palin seemed to be looking at notes several times during her debate with Joe Biden. Each candidate is allowed to "take notes during the debate on the size, color and type of blank paper that each prefers."

Are we going to have a new thread or the "official" debate thread for the one tonight?
Start a new thread for it already. This one is ridiculous.
Sorry, I'll put that in the Debate Thread. I put it in the wrong one.
