The Official word is in: List it is. So said the Keith. And as his enforcer, so it shall be.

Well, for my round five pick I'm taking a film that I've never seen. I don't know how well it will go over, but I think it's a perfect pick to round out my five.

I'll tell you what...if you ever need to have someone dig you a ditch, hire Greg Henry. That fucker digs a 6x3 hole, 6 feet deep, in only a few minutes.
It's basically Rear Window with overtones of the slasher genre. I consider it a horror/mystery-suspense hybrid...actually wrote a paper a few semesters back about film violence and used BD as one of my examples. There was an interview from the era I cited with De Palma about how the drill came about as he wanted to amplify the technology, so to speak, of suspense. I basically concluded he was blending his own idolization of Hitchcock with the conventions of Halloween, Friday the 13th and subsequent knock-offs, so that was my criteria for drafting it. I think if they remade it (God help me) it would be of the X-treme pedigree Saw and Hostel fall under.

And yes, the drill scene is fucking terrifying.

How many people have picked films they haven't seen? Always wondered about that.

Well, let me tell you: between the ankle slicin' and the Zelda moanin', it sure scared the hell out of the little kid I used to be.

Keith loves ghost rape.
Some of it is over the top and campy. But the movie is pretty ruthless just the same. I was impressed by what Mary Lambert managed to pull off.

You gotta admit, when Romero did get around to doing a King adaptation it was kind of anti-climactic.
Pet Semetary may not be a good movie, but it definitely a scary film. Zelda, zombie boy, the jogger with the obliterated skull as a spirit guide...

"Sometimes, ded iz bettah."

I own it, but I'll never watch it again.

One more day of listing, then the bloodbath on Monday.

Ghost rape freaks me out. But I can't turn away. What's wrong with me?

The tv spots that scared me as a kid, they had Barbara Hershey drawing a bath, then shots of her little ones all snuggled up, then she's relaxing in the tub, and the door slams shut on its own, then it locks, then she screams. Even though it was just an ad, it has forever affected my shower taking and bathroom usage.

Full movie still makes me rather uncomfortable. I'm sure there's plenty out there, you know, not a very good movie, not very scary, stupid ending, blah blah, blah, I've heard it all before. But this movie gets a response out of me, gives me the chills. That's what I ideally want in a horror flick.
The Entity: Barbara Hershey sells the shit out of that premise. The movie dies without her.

Thats an asshole way to pick something.

So, no one here has seen Hour of the Wolf I take it.
A Romero-directed (or Savini) Pet Sematary could have been a classic. And if only Bruce Campbell got the role of Louis as originally considered. Watched it a few months ago with some friends, scared me shitless when I first saw it, now found it an extremely fun horror movie. While watching it a friend of mine perfected an imitation of Jud (also we were MST3K'ing it too). But the Achilles heel slashing is scary, and the dark as hell ending blows the ambiguous one in the book right out the water.

By the way the Ramones' theme song is currently my ringtone.

P.S.: LOVE the South Park were Butters fakes his death (to go to the girls' sleepover as Marjorine) and the Jud-like guy keeps telling his parents "sometimes dead is better." Also has one of my favorite last lines of any episode.

Why? Is this some of that Cordo post modern humor?

You'll never get out of bed again!!!!

And, I had trouble getting into bed at night after that one, let me tell you.

Someone's got to cut the Gage Vs. Crandall sequence to the theme from The Munsters and put it on YouTube. When we watched it on VHS at a friend's house, I started belting it out and, it works man!
How was the sequel to 'Pet Sematary'? It's one of the few Clancy Brown movies that I've never seen.
James May got a goodie, and one that I was thinking about for Friday. Would have been nice to have a Bergman on my list but ah well.

The less said about Pet Sematary Two, the better.

EDIT: Later, folks. Put me in the late group for tomorrow as well, Savage.
Due to the time differences it would be really great if I wasn't any later than the 11am slot if we're not doing a 9am free-for-all (would be cool).

Otherwise, will need a volunteer to take my pick for me, but we'll sort that out tomorrow. Thinking i'm gonna ditch my theme (pretty weak, anyway) and finish with a classic.

I feel like checking it out, if only because my friends and I already subjected ourselves to ________________ and the aforementioned fact that the Kurgan is in it.
I don't wanna be buried... in a pet cemeteeeeery. I don't want to live my liiife agaaaain!!!!

Keith - Nice pick in my opinion. That movie has flaws. But it does get the juices flowing during the attack scenes. That music helps. I endorse your pick.

Ron Silver is always worthwhile.

And Hershey was a babe.

I'm never one to tell you to not see a movie, but that movie is a big bag of disappointment.

I guess, it's been a long, long time. I don't know.
I'd never pick a movie I haven't seen, but there's no rule against it. It certainly would make completing certain themes easier though. But, I don't know how you could carry on a discussion, which should be part of the point.
The rule in the FAIL draft was that you had to have actually SEEN the movie that you were drafting. This is Keith's draft, though...it's up to him.
Pet Semetary is the only film in this draft that fucking TRAUMATIZED my very existance.

Fucking Zelda..

Take a guess what would have been perfect to round out my 5!
Day 5 posted btw. Randomized and adjusted. Hope all is good.
Kabong, please tell me what year 'Gates of Hell' came out. Doing a search, I'm finding multiple movies out there with the same name that could qualify as a horror movie (including a foreign title), so I need to know where to file it in the Chosen List.
Edit - if I'm wrong, I'm name dropping a title like a douche. Ne'er mind.
In the Fail Draft, it was explicit that we had to have seen the movie. The reasoning was it would be easy to draft something like Battlefield Earth or Glitter on reputation, and drafting a film should also be a tacit admission of having actually sat down and watched it. But I always thought drafting a movie you haven't seen, even if no one would ever know, would be exceptionally bad form, and would ultimately result in the knowledge that you're so desperate for approval that you're lying about the most trivial possible things in your life.

But it's probably happened a couple times with every draft. And we'll never know who...
I'll wait for a response from Kabong, Phil. A quick perusal tells me that your initial answer (before you edited your post) was probably right.

I suffered through Freddie Got Fingered and Turkish Star Wars. I won the shit out of that draft. Who knew something positive would come out of these 2 celluloid genocides?

DOG SOLDIERS was a definite possibility for me tomorrow. Really like that one. Glad to see Neil Marshall getting his due today.

Yeah, he and Lucio Fulci are having a good day.
Fuck that Molt, I was hammering it! So much fun.
Looks like I'm getting up early tomorrow for Round 5. Yee haw!

I'm actually really intrigued at some of the completed "themes" working on some folks' lists.
I was just looking at the Lists. Is it possible everyone wins this thing? Or, almost everyone?

Everyone who didn't draft Aliens or The Incredible Shrinking Man.
Says the guy whose cinematic myopia caused him to pick Dog Soldiers out of a century of horror. Bite it!
Hey, I'm filling a theme here.

Plus, Dog Soldiers is good, and one helluva fun movie.
Tati died for his theme. Don't be a theme-slave.
Admittedly, I have a fairly shitty theme.

What problem do you have with Dog Soldiers? Have you seen it?
I'm interested in what Tati has in mind for Round 5. If it's not a complete piece of dog crap, my hat's off to him.

BTW, I know name dropping is strongly discouraged for the discussion thread, what about in the Lists thread? There's an unpicked movie title out there that's just perfect for my list.
Sure I've seen it. My problem with it is mainly a: I needed to pick on one of your choices in retaliation, and Evil Dead and The Birds are pretty fool-proof; and b: You put it next to Evil Dead and The Birds, which should tell you its place in, again, a century of horror. I thought it was pretty disposable and derivative (the quote you chose is even parroting a line from another flick).

Though I'm a giant fan of Doomsday, so don't take my critique too much to heart. It's no worse a pick than anything Tati's drafted since day 2.

EvilTwin, title it tomorrow. That's what I'm a do.
For those who need an explanation for my pick...for lack of better descriptors, imagine if Guillermo Del Toro was making movies back in the 60s and was poking a lot of gentle, but freaky fun at Ingmar Bergman in the process. A lot of anti-religious symbolism during a period of history for Russia where it wasn't allowed. Some surprisingly GREAT makeup and camera effects, and just a really fucked up fantasy/horror ride.
I swear i've been trying to reach to the corners of the universe for a fifth entry on a franchise that wasn't utter crap. So far, i can't find it. So i might just go with a fun one.

I'll still stand by the first 4 picks. I really think they are good horror movies and certainly the best of their respective franchises. And the way i was able to get them sequentially is just awesome.
Tati's theme is almost as good as mine...almost.

Tati's going to draft 'Star Trek V: The Final Frontier'. Just watch.
And just to comment on the day:

Deep bow of solemn respect to: tommy, Molti, thejayav, Chris Allen, Arjen, Corpse Fucker

Vicious spite jig of derision at: sackley, sadly. That movie's aged like shit.

I'd be pissed about going in the next to last group tomorrow, if I didn't have a shitload of confidence my pick hasn't even crossed anyone's mind for this draft.

And nope, The Ring wasn't even close.

It gets called City of the Living Dead too.

Why the hell would you draft a film that you haven't actually seen? I don't understand people that draft films solely as a form of competition. Any jackass can sit around picking films they think will look the most impressive. If you don't actually care about them, what the fuck is the point?
Thank You justin though I'm very deflated about tomorrow after the corpse fucker took it from me. Also, rath you have peaked my interest and I'm starting Theater of Blood now.
