Two great new albums in the past month and five in the past 3 years, yet no love here. Folks, step into it.

This John Zorn album they just released (Zaebos) is really neat.

I had no idea these guys were still recording. I saw them in college 13 years ago. They are totally deserving of love but I haven't listened to much in the last ten years so I can't get much more specific.

They played my second favorite set when I went to Bonnaroo (the first being Radiohead, of course). Haven't listened to their last two albums though, not exactly sure why, just kind of slipped by. Will definitely fix that shortly.

I wish to hell I could have made it up that year. I have a bootleg of Radiohead's set, and having experienced Bonnaroo's utterly unique and magical vibe last year (the Tool, Police, The Roots, The Flaming Lips year), I can only imagine how amazing Radiohead was in that heavenly self-contained little universe.

Oh, and I've always heard great things about MM&W. I need to check them out.

Been a fan ever since I caught a set at the H.O.R.D.E. fest back in '97, although admittedly I haven't seen them in about four years.

I recently picked up both Zaebos and Radiolarians 1. To me, they lost their way a little bit on the past few albums prior, with a more electronic affected sound than before. They seem to be returning to their experimental/improvisational roots lately, which makes me happy. I'm still taking these two new releases in, but I like what I'm hearing.

Saw them in Atlanta a few years ago and loved it. A highlight for me was when they did an unplugged encore similar to this awesomeness*:

I'm not a huge fan, but they do a great live act.

I like a lot of stuff they do that can be described as such, but some of it gets samey to me at times. An album like End of the World Party, while good, doesn't hold up to repeated listens for me in the same way their earlier stuff does. That's kind of splitting hairs, though, because I actually listen to all of their albums. One of my very favorites by them is their second release, It's a Jungle In Here, from 1993.

Live they're awesome. On an album, I dig anything they put a groove into. I'll tell you which of their albums I despise though, "Farmers Reserve". I swear they just got really high and recorded themselves destroying a recording studio.
