Digital Billboards

These things are springing up like cancer in LA lately. It seems like they're on EVERY corner now, when they didn't exist anywhere a few months ago. They're really obnoxious, a total eyesore, and I'm sure they're probably responsible for a number of accidents since I know the constantly changing images can distract you from more important things, like driving safely.

LA is trying to limit them now, but I'm afraid at this point it's a little too late.

Are these a phenomenon elsewhere in the US? I'm not talking about Vegas-style billboards, these are identical in size and content to the normal ones, except they rotate ads (During the Eagle Eye campaign, each billboard was customized based on the intersection it was near - "Westwood and National If You Want to Live You Will Obey") and light up the night sky with more light pollution. Lame.

Tieman, I had been wondering where you had been all this time.

And yeah I've noticed them popping up to. I would see a couple as I would drive into Century City. I can see how they are annoying although they never really bothered me.

I mean frankly we've had worse billboards. *Points his finger at POWER 106*

I've seen these sporadically around the state here in Indiana. They are distractingly bright, but other than that just more useless ad space.

The fun a person could have hacking one of those. The possibilities for mischief are literally endless.

And if it can't be hacked, it can certainly be rendered inoperable.

I remember my first trip to Toronto, and seeing those digital boards all over downtown. Really blew my mind. We have very few of them sprinkled around downtown Houston, but most of them are private billboards for companies, not public ones for advertising.
