Vacancy (2007)

Thread Starter
I started my Halloween celebration a few days ago with some horror films. I ended up watching Vacancy for the first time. Honestly, it's pretty entertaining and decently directed (especially the first half). Despite that, I'd still probably label it with a five out of ten.

Firstly, you can only see so many "car breaks down at the wrong place at the wrong time" movies before it gets kind of old. Secondly, the direction isn't as tight once the couple starts finding ways to get outside of the room. Lastly, the movie gets less scary as it goes on.

The scariest stuff for me was the rampant knocking on the doors toward the beginning. I don't think it was as effective as the knocking in the original Haunting, but it was pretty good stuff.

All in all, a fun time that left room to be desired. Most of my friends think this is one of the best horror films of the decade, so I guess I'll have to label this one under "overrated."

I actually really really liked it. It definitely became more "thriller" and less "scary" as it went on but the tension stayed pretty well ramped up and if it weren't for the cop-out pussy ending I would have LOVED it.

It's so good up until the shitty, horrible ending.

A thousand times, yes. It's a completely engrossing horror film that goes to hell in the last ten or so minutes.

What I like most about it is the fact it's the follow up to KONTROLL one of my favorite films. Although it's probably one of the shortest recent major films I can think of.

Pretty much what he said. I would have loved, loved LOVED to have seen the protagonists fucking just DIE there, and have the end be the killers getting away with it, and continuing their secret killing spree. I think the bleak ending as a cinematic device is underutilized. Fuck pleasing John & Jane Moviegoer. We genre fans are the ones mainly plunking cash down on a film like this, anyway. All hail the Mist! All hail Frank Darabont!

The beginning of this film was pretty fucking terrifying, as they sit and watch the film, and it slowly dawns on them just what they're seeing. They should've kept rolling w/ that momentum. I'm getting really tired of seeing the "Victim strikes back" in really predictable ways endings to horror films. I'm perhaps more tired of that than anything else, except the chick falling while running away.

Caught this on Starz a few weeks back.Really decent little flick.Gotta agree that the end was a cop-out but still not a horrible flick by any means.

Frank Whaley as the main baddie? Guarantees something very favorable to say from me. When he's filmming Kate Beckinsale almost getting it, it was so creepy.

Seems we're all on the same page. I was really digging it and then... it just ends. Seems to me a film with balls like this has had a re-shot ending tacked on. Does anyone know if that's the case?

Was never interested in this movie, would have never watched it, but I was doing laundry at a friend's house and it came on Starz. I liked it. When Luke was watching the tapes, that was really scary.
