Netflix price change for Blu-ray access

Can't say I'm surprised...

Dear Tieman,

As you may know, Blu-ray movies are more expensive than standard definition movies. As a result, we're going to start charging $1 a month (plus applicable taxes), in addition to your monthly membership charge, for unlimited access to Blu-ray movies.

The additional charge for unlimited Blu-ray access will be automatically added to your next billing statement on or after November 5th, 2008 and will be referenced in your Membership Terms and Details. If you wish to continue getting Blu-ray movies for $1 a month more, you don't need to do anything. If not, you can remove Blu-ray access anytime by visiting Your Account at the Netflix website.

If you have questions about this change or need any assistance, please call us anytime at 1-888-638-3549.

Makes sense. And you have your netflix account registered to just your last name? Wow. Heck, they did knock a few bucks off last month due to their system failures. I figure it works out.

Probably people "losing" disks.

Oh yeah.

$1 a month isn't bad. What's bad is that a lot of movies just aren't on blu-ray that I get from Netflix. I'm just starting to get into my first few blu-ray discs from Netflix, and it looks like in a month I might see 1 blu-ray in a month's time.

Exactly. I just hope if I'm paying more that I don't have blu-ray movies sitting at the top of my queue with "Very Long Wait" for a month before they're shipped.

Yeah I hope I get shorter waits for that bluray dollar, but I doubt it.

I can't stick with netflix long enough because I hit a point where I can't the blu ray disc in time, let alone I go a couple of months where I don't have anything I really care to see. i just hit a point where I just buy the blu ray disc and try to get them when they're on sale ($20).

So...If I have Blu Ray access on my account, but don't get any Blu Rays for a whole month because Netflix gets about 8 copies of each movie, do I still have to pay the dollar? I mean, it's a dollar, so who gives a fuck, but still.

Leper, that's exactly what I was thinking. Speaking from a completely annoyed standpoint - I'm still waiting for MAD MEN to go from Long Wait to Now, along with others - in order to justify that price increase, they better add some more copies to their distribution centers.

Deep down, I kinda wish Blockbuster hadn't realized they were getting the shaft with Total Access. Those were the good old days, renting about 30 movies a month for around $.52/each.

I have been waiting on Diving Bell and the Butterfly for 2 months now. Why can't they just send the regular DVD already? I wish you could make it an option to skip to regular DVD if something is on long wait.

Am I on some special list that I get my Blu Ray discs super quick? Honestly I received Iron Man and Speed Racer the day of release.

A dollar is worth it because most brick and mortar's don't stock nearly enough Blu Ray titles.

That is the only way I can get Blu Ray discs. If I give the discs to my mailman on Friday, Netflix get's them and ships my next disc on Monday. If I have a new release (as in streeting the next day) in Blu Ray at the top of my queue, I get it. If I miss that window, goodnight nurse. "Long wait" (at best) by Wednesday.

I'm waiting for when they start selling the bluray discs for cheap. I guess an extra dollar isn't going to kill me. I don't go to the theater much, so bluray is the best bet for me.

It depends on the movie, but they're getting better with this. I remember waiting for eons for Rambo a few months ago, but the only VLW Blu Ray on my queue now is the Dark City director's cut.

What Leper said. But also, it depends on how many copies your distribution center buys. I think mine is the San Angelo one which is pretty good at getting me mine. Except Ilsa - 9 months Netflix!?!?!
