Luckily, Jörg Haider died in a car crash last night, so it's not all doom and gloom in Austria.

"Sir, prove to me that you are not working with our enemies"??? Seriously? It's now a point of apology in this country for not being a bible-waving Christian?
Glenn Beck said something retarded? Stop the presses.

Yeah strange how far right euro politicians keep dying. Same thing happened to that far-righter in The Netherlands years ago.

Not really. Pim Fortuyn was assassinated.
I had forgotten to add that in the original post. But you are right.

Shit 10,000 posts. Shows what a life of nothing will get ya.

Race war? No. Violence, maybe even riots? I think so. I wish I didn't but the people at those McNazi rallies will not be satisfied by sitting at home muttering the N word...

I can't believe how the interviewers in these tapes miss the most obvious joke in the world when asking about the Obama being a terrorist thing. When some dumbass says "Well, he's got the bloodline!" or whatever, the reply should be, "Now that you mention it, I guess he is half white."

I believe that was the interview that caused gave Jon Stewart the line: "Glenn Beck: he's not afraid to say what people who don't think, think" ... I believe Beck even used that quote on the cover of his book.

Whatever happened to the fair and objectively independent tone in these threads, ElCap I'm looking at you.

Openly bigoted pragmatists. That's refreshing.

Times get tough enough, and they'll turn to their Antichrist. It's funny how I thought they couldn't come across any more despicable.

In Waverly some people had no qualms about appearing bigoted. Outside Wal-Mart, Carrie Hunt, 64, said that she thought Mr Obama was better on the issues. So was she going to vote for him? “Hell no! I just don't like him. Black people think we all owe them something.”
At least this lady was honest and didn't try to cover up her racism with any kind of pseudo-rational dodge.

Nah, we need a "The fact that this exists is UTTERLY TERRIFYING" thread for most of this.

Dave should have just played these clips when McCain was on Letterman the other day. Right in the middle of his segment. Then let McCain try to explain it.

Where was this sign found? Pompano Beach, Florida! In the McCain campaign office.

Gotta love the style of the two s's in "HUSSAIN" and the cute little Star of David on his head. Makes me think this inbred dipshit piece of leftover redneck fuckmeat might be some sort of thing that rhymes with "Meo-Mazi".

I'm just curious. In my country we have the same amendment regarding freedom of speech. But since that was written hundreds of years ago we have passed some laws that make racist comments directed at individuals illegal. So I thought - considering your history - that you might have similar laws.
Congress shall make no law. That's pretty specific.

What you can't do is incite people to violence and hate speech preceding a crime can, in some cases, increase the penalty for that crime.
Well that was the point of our law; hate speech in general has the chance of invoking violence therefore it's illegal. I'm fucking glad we have that law too! And it's not that I live in a society without free speech. We did get infamous for the Mohammed drawings and censorship in general when it comes to swearing, nudity etc. is non-existing. We just don't accept hate speech and I guess I don't understand that a country with your history would allow that kind of expression in any shape or form!

European hate speech laws border on the ridiculous, I rather have people in the US openly stating where they are so I can more quickly dismiss them if they are completely wacko.

Please don't elaborate! Have you lived in Europe for a prolonged time?

I've been to Europe a few times, only 2 countries unfortunately. Does that mean I can't comment on hate speech laws?

Quote:

Uh ... hate speech laws enacted by countries in Europe of course.

The example of the Mohamed cartoons is a good one, Salon has a good example of why these laws are obnoxious (in this example we're talking about Canada instead of Europe though).
http://www.salon.com/opinion/greenwa...e_speech_laws/

Quote:
The hearing was closed to the public -- only his lawyer and wife were allowed to attend -- but Levant insisted on recording the proceedings and was directed by the Commission not to publish the video, but he did so anyway. Here are the noxious fruits of hate speech laws: a citizen being forced to appear before the Government in order to be interrogated by an agent of the State -- a banal, clerical bureaucrat -- about what opinions he expressed and why he expressed them, upon pain of being punished under the law. This is nothing short of stomach-turning:
Now as a minority on several fronts in this country, I could argue these laws "would benefit me". But you know what, I don't want to criminalize the right of others to offend me with their opinions.

Some of these laws also get into infringement of freedom of religion, like in the case of this Pentecostal pastor's rant against gays in Sweden ...
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...2005Jan28.html

Now I'm trying to imagine what if somebody did a cartoon against Pentecostals and their intolerance of gays, the Pentecostals get to sue the cartoonist and gay right groups get to sue the Pentecostals. It can get silly.

BTW, do they have these laws in Spain? Because when I was there the racism against gypsies was very out in the open.
