Seriously, did anyone see the PIzza Hut video where the gay kids were doing gross shit to the food? These aren't the people in charge of ACORN doing - honestly - not bad things as most of the people involved knew that two white kids saying they were in the shit was bull... grrr.
I'm still offended by how comical the kid's Pimp and Ho getups were. Fucking guy looked like he was about to be called down as a contestant for Deal or No Deal.

AAAAGUGUGUG MORE RAMPANT CORRUPTION

I also laughed at the bit near the end where the dude's all like "If the mainstream media won't indict these people, we citizen journalists and blahblahblah" whatever.

Also, gotta love the very first commenter calling them "undereducated ghetto dwellers". Way to show some class there, you hateful fucking douchebag.

On what planet is trying to bug a US Senator's phone considered a smart idea? Unless there is another side to this story that magically explains why the apparent attempted bugging of Senator Landrieu's office is somehow not a crime, these idiots deserve to be charged.

Clearly they do not deserve any federal money.

Yes. But don't look to the lazy corporate media to report this.

Yes, the Republicans in Congress voted for a resolution to defund ACORN, but a federal district court ruling overturned Congress' action.

Also:
Quote:
On Christmas Eve, buried on page A24 of my edition of the New York Times, was this story: "The controversial community organizing group Acorn has not broken any laws in the last five years, according to a Congressional Research Service report released Tuesday evening."

Indeed, the CRS report—requested in September by House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers and House Financial Services Committee Chairman Barney Frank—finds no instances in which ACORN "violated the terms of federal funding in the last five years," and no instances of individuals allegedly registered to vote improperly by ACORN "attempting to vote at the polls."

Good to see that the New York Times ran the story. But the placement and the timing — after 18 months of screaming headlines and attacks vilifying the anti-poverty group — is reminiscent of the McCarthy era when individuals and organizations were ruined by allegations that ran as front page news, while later evidence that vindicated them was relegated to the back pages. There was little accountability for the false accusations, little redemption for those whose lives had been shattered.

Meanwhile, the best thing about this thread is the hilariously haughty outrage in The Closer's thread title.

I'd love to see this O'Keefe clown in prison. How long would he last?
NBC reports that O'Keefe may have been attempting to disable the phone system, as opposed to wiretapping, in an effort to test the office's reaction to such a situation. Apparently there have been right-wing constituent complaints that it was difficult to get through to Landrieu's office to register their opposing views on health care reform.

While I assume there is a very significant legal difference between attempted espionage and vandalism on federal property, I would think these guys are still in a world of shit.

Maybe "sabotage" is more accurate? Is there a legal connotation to that?

Ah, journalism. How I miss you. I remember quite a twist to the version offered by NBC (Or rather AP), but then again, who needs facts?

Wait, you mean those two courageous exposers of the truth may not have been entirely truthful? Shock and amazement!

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21134540...04129#36204129

To sum up:

-- The unedited video shows O'Keefe leaving the ACORN offices in a regular dress shirt, not the pimp outfit so prominently featured in the edited video
-- The ACORN employee demonized for apparently helping the pair set up a child prostitution ring called LA police immediately after the pair left to report a suspected case of human smuggling
-- The ACORN employee reportedly shown encouraging Giles in her prostitution efforts was actually encouraging her in trying to buy a house

To quote Maddow, "Means be damned, in the end, it worked."

The devil you say! Oh, that would truly be a shocking turn of events!

Since I can´t access the video at work, let me clarify that I was rather referring to this little bolded gem:

I like the fact that the so called news organization stick to the "pimp-suit embarrasment" spin on this story instead of reporting what actually happened.

ETA: Your edit seems to point out the same argument I was heading for. And subsequently Stelios nailed it. As usual. A scholar and gentleman indeed.

I can't believe doing this kind of stuff in legal in the US. How hasn't the crook that made up this story already been thrown in jail? And how are the news outlets that promoted his fraud not getting the fucking blood sued out of them? If this is the US version of a free press you can keep it.

This isn't a case of a journalist making an honest mistake. This is a political hit based on knowingly fabricated events. This caused people to lose their jobs and get publicly humiliated. This caused an organization that actually tried to work on a low level to help your society's less fortunate members to lose its funding and get crippled. You can't tell me no one will do something about this.

Jesus, I posted this on Facebook and one of my friends responded, "She's complaining that he took off his pinstriped jacket..? So..?" I mean, if that's ALL you took away from watching that video, you're not worth wasting the breath to argue with.

EDIT: Oh swell, now he's gone to the "It's OK because Michael Moore does the same thing" argument.
Michael Moore always identifies himself as Michael Moore and that he's a documentary filmmaker. He's not dressing up in a trucker cap and a camo vest to go buy a gun.

I got so pissed off over this that I couldn't even finish watching that segment yesterday afternoon. Stelios's post above only pissed me off more. I hate the way shit goes down in our country sometimes.

I'll admit, I watch Fox News more often then not, but when I caught the Un-edited version on MSNBC I was beyond pissed... Talk about misinformation... Jesus that's some evil shit being done.

White-hot rage. That's all I feel from watching this video, and from thinking that Dickson's right. I bet this doesn't get covered beyond "the liberals" at MSNBC. I bet no one talks about it at all.

I hate that people like Glenn Beck or Sarah Palin have audiences that not only listen to them, but pay to do so. I hate that people in this country don't actually think about what they watch, what they consume, and what they do. Most of all, I hate that these guys fucking called it.

Well, good thing we absolutely destroyed them.

Quote:
(A) just-issued report by the Government Accountability Office that reviewed ACORN's federal funding at the behest of Congress found little grist for the mill for politicians or right-wing bloggers looking to bash the now-defunct advocacy group for the poor.

The 38-page report surveyed over 31 federal agencies, probing how ACORN used federal funds and whether adequate controls on spending existed.

The report found no evidence of fraud, lax oversight or misuse of federal funds.

In fact, the report discovered that ACORN had adequately accounted for spending $40 million worth of major and minor grants awarded by the federal government to the group since 2005 to combat a variety of problems afflicting poor Americans, including lead poisoning, housing discrimination and lack of adequate job training.
But hey, we got a funny video out of it.
