RIP Fangoria?

apparently Norm Jacobs has sold Fangoria and Starlog to something called "the brooklyn company." First thing they did was delete the old Fangoria messageboards (which incidentally, Fangoria has always sucked at BBS and deleted the BBS several times over the years). Wonder what this bodes for the future of the mag... not well I suspect, after last year's fire that destroyed their back catalog (which they were not insured for)...

But what about Fangoria Radio?! Where will Dee Snider go now?

So that's where he disappeared to after his brief stint on MMR. I used to enjoy his radio show back in the day.

Fangoria taught me more about the human body than biology class ever did.

"Hey Mommy, people sure are gooey inside."

What the hell am I going to do now? I've been waiting for Bump #2!

I understand Bump will continue as a back-up feature in The Bridger Adventures, coming to comic shops 2009!

Nice typo, you mean 2090!

Fangoria and Starlog are still being published? Holy crap.

It's not dead yet. They've got a new site and new boards, but I know everything was down for a few days.

And the magazine's still going! I've actually got an article in their Halloween issue hitting on October 28th (shameless plug).

They still "print" things called "magazines"???

Congrats on the article!

I had this retarded dream of writing freelance for them after I was done with being sick and laid off. Though honestly I haven't read a Fangoria in years. I'm all about Rue Morgue these days.

there are plenty of past & present horror mags that are better than Fangoria in various ways. but not even Famous Monsters has been in continuous publications as long as Fangoria. Fangoria is a major horror brand and IMO the mgmt has pissed away that brand value.

all of these mags are better than Fangoria in their own ways, but most people never heard of them and probably never will:

Wow. thanks for the info. I hadn't heard about the fire before now.
Sucks to be them, huh?
Though their lack of insurance really is/was inexcusable. One would think that they'd have been required to have it.

Though, I suppose it's actually good news for me in a way. In that the value of my complete collection has probably risen a bit now that each individual issue is now that much more rare.

Not that I ever plan on parting with it.
I mean, damn, at this point I've got nearly 30 years invested in that sucker!
Hell, I can still remember making the trip to my local comic shop to buy issue #1 way back in 1979.
So, in all my ridiculous OCD glory, I'll cling to it right up 'til I'm on my death bed.

Though hopefully by then I'll have discovered which one of my three kids will appreciate it the most so I'll know whom to leave it to.
My oldest is 16 & though she loves movies, I wouldn't say she's anywhere near the genre nut that her dad is, so it'll likely be between my son who's 9 & my youngest daughter who's 7.

So, Alex- What's going on with Fango now? Looks like they're on the verge of closing up shop completely.

Tony Timpone stepped down as Editor in Chief- Chris Alexander is taking over. Pretty crazy stuff.... Timpone's staying within the company though, to work on a Fango On Demand service. The website will be getting a reboot soon and Alexander is already starting to implement some interesting ideas for the mag. Might be doing some more stuff for them soon!

So while they're still not out of the woods, they're definitely not dead yet.

It's been 10 years or more since I've actually picked up a copy of Fangoria but It' still going to be sad day when I hear the magazine is actually calling it quits. Way too many fond memories of flipping through its pages growing up.

Good to hear! I was worried that shit got worse than that.
