Don't have any connections in those fields. Finance/accounting here. Which is kind dry right now (been shopping around myself).

I just saw a commercial saying they're taking FOX off Bright House. Is that true?
It's the same staring contest BrightHouse had with Viacom last year. They came to a last-minute deal and none of the channels ever went dark. Probably the same thing will happen here.

I'd also read that it wasn't the FOX network or FOX News that were being pulled, but FX, Speed, the FOX movie channel, and FOX's soccer channels.

Richard, my parents are buying a house in about a month near Kissimmee for the express purpose of complying with that law Canadian seniors have to obey whereupon at a certain age, they must migrate. The upside? We get to come to Florida for x-mas break in 2010!!!

I know, try to contain yourself at the possibility of meeting me in person. But also, NO WINNIPEG WINTER FOR X-MAS!!
If they're buying in a month (which by the way, kudos for your parents in buying property down here - the market is definitely perfect for buying) then you should still be able to enjoy some winter down here this season. I hear winter doesn't end until May up there.

Whereupon they become terrible drivers. I can't tell you how many Canadian plates I've yelled at over the years down here.

Hah, my dad is an awful driver already, I can't imagine how bad he'll be once he's tasted the heady freedom of sunshine.

Yeah that is what I am thinking too, we'll see what can be swung this year. The big hold-up is my wife's vacation time at her non-government job. She is still locked at 2 weeks, which would mean if I went earlier than x-mas she would have to take unpaid leave.

I stand corrected, it is in fact ALL FOX channels.

Just wanted to give a shout-out to my favorite annoying local commercials:

I'm sorry, nothing is more annoying than that little girl in the Bob Dance commercials which seem to air every ten minutes. She's got lifeless black eyes, like a doll's eyes...

This BrightHouse/FOX brouhaha has me looking at U-Verse again. Well that and the almost daily promotional flyers they send me in the mail. And while it's great that they want to throw $350 in gift cards at me, and being able to record up to 4 programs at a time is nice, I'd have to pay for a second box for our bedroom (not so with BrightHouse), have to pay extra for HD channels (also not so with BrightHouse), and have to pay extra to get up to the internet connection speed I have now. So it boils down to whether FOX programming is worth an extra $20 a month, balanced with $350 in reward cards. Still not sure.

You guys have Verizon Fios as an option over there in Orlando?
It's not available in my area. We've got Comcast, but they want to shove a home phone line on us that we don't want. And DirecTV is out because our apartment doesn't face the right direction.

Are the FOX programs you catch available online? If so...

It wouldn't be such a hard decision if FOX didn't have so many sports contracts. Cutting out FOX means losing NFC NFL games and the World Series.
That's the thing, those events aren't available online. I still have a digital TV antenna, so I can just plug that it and get the local FOX affiliate, but it's sort of the principle -- BrightHouse went through this last year with Viacom, and they still won't budge on the NFL Network.
Well, looks like it may be time to break out that digital antenna -- FOX and BrightHouse don't look close to any kind of deal, and FOX seems almost eager to yank their programming.
Didn't we run into this same problem a few years ago? I want to say it was with the NBC family.
As should be obvious by now, FOX and BrightHouse have come to an as yet undisclosed agreement. This after numerous deadline extensions throughout the day.

See you all again next December with whatever network decides to try this then.

Holy crap, Universal just rolled out one of the better Mardi Gras band lineups we've had in years:

- Sat., Feb. 6: KC and The Sunshine Band
- Sat., Feb. 13: Heart
- Sun., Feb. 14: Kool & the Gang
- Sat., Feb. 20: Blondie
- Sat., Feb. 27: Dierks Bentley
- Sat., March 6: Akon
- Sat., March 13: Aretha Franklin
- Sat., March 20: Miranda Lambert
- Sat., March 27: 3 Doors Down
- Sat., April 3: Beach Boys
- Fri., April 9: Sheryl Crow
- Sat., April 10: Flo Rida
- Sat., April 17: Chicago

Not all my cup of tea, but I'll be there for Heart and Blondie. And getting Flo Rida is pretty big, the place is going to be a madhouse that day.

KC and the Sunshine Band may as well be the USF house band at this point.

Are these at the parks or at the Hard Rock?

I grew up in Miami and got my undergrad degree at FIU. I left Florida in 2008 to go to law school.

Some of you Central Florida folks might be just a bit interested in this:

Lebowski Fest is coming to Orlando.
At 15 bucks that might be worth just to see the spectacle, or maybe I'll just hang out in the shadow of the Cirque du Soleil and count the Sobchaks.

Howdy fellow Florida chewers, I myself hail from the fair panhandle (Pensacola) and travel frequently to Sarasota (Where I was raised, though not born - see Pensacola, for that-)

When will it stop being so damned cold?
Central Florida/ Space Coaster here... seems that the warmth has begun! Hoping there's no more cold fronts *fingers crossed*
