The Undecided Voter

Thread Starter
Let's recap....

Countless Primary Debates
2 Conventions
4 General Election Debates
20 freaking months

This is what I want to know. Why are there still people who are undecided after all that? I'm not talking about leaners here but people who have no clue who to vote for at this point. What's the deal with these people? Are they really undecided or do they just like to be part of town hall debates and focus groups and generally have their little power trips? Just confused about these people.

Because they want to go with the flow. The people who haven't decided until now pretty much want to be told who's going to win and vote for him and feel all better about being on the winning side. Most of them are pretty much tools.

I think most of them are not truly undecided but lean one way or another and are still open to be moved either way.

I think that there are also a lot of people who aren't consuming all of the political information out there. They don't go out of their way to watch debates or keep up with the news, and they mostly tune out when ads come on TV or radio. I was out doing voter registration a couple of weeks ago and I was surprised about how many people just haven't got around to paying much attention yet (and I don't know if they will). The people who I met who were following things were already committed one way or another--I didn't really meet anybody who has been carefully following the campaigns but hadn't made up their mind. I guess that it shouldn't surprise me that there are a lot of people who just aren't interested.

I think they're all douchebags.

I don't think they're necessarily douchebags. I think they're utter idiots, with a 66 percent chance of douchebag.

1) They may be new to the process. Just contacted by some voter drive, they registered but now they want to find out everything in order to make their decisions.

2) They may know everything and still be conflicted, with big differences canceling out. Love one candidate's economic plan, love the other one's social ideas. Or whatever.

3) They may have a third-party allegiance, but seeing the big two guys in such an 'important'-seeming race, may be thinking of throwing in for a Repub or Dem. In which case, probably go back to 2)

Do you ever talk about movies here on CHUD, ElCapitan?

I would also say that some who are qualified as "undecided" aren't really so much. As we've seen in recent days, the "Fannie Mae guy" at the Town Hall debate was already leaning Obama and Joe the Plumber was leaning McCain.

Attention whores who enjoy waving their supposed indecision in the campaigns' faces then saying 'chase me, chase me' and running away like a girl.

Not around election time.

David Sedaris on undecided voters:

Sedaris delivers, as always. My favorite line from that entire piece:

To be undecided in this election is to pause for a moment and then ask how the chicken is cooked.
