There was a two hour "dramatization" of this on, I think, Discovery Channel or one of those. Effectively creepy, if they stick to the points of the allegedly true stuff, it could make for a swell horror flick.

IIRC, the family had already moved to Connecticut before the kid got sick, something like moving there for a job. Not nitpicking, just that it comes off as a bit humorous, the old can't believe we got this place so cheap story. Move into what was once a mortuary. Make the two boys sleep in the 'basement', or where the magic happened. Big surprise when demons begin fucking with them. Great scene where the Dad, pissed that the electric bill is so high, takes away their lightbulbs.

From there it moves into Amityville II territory, oldest boy eventually becomes possessed, tries to fuck his cousin or some shit, gets sent to psycho ward, demon concentrates on Mom and cousin, call in some experts, maybe it was the Warrens, don't remember, a priest, breathing mattresses, happy ending.

Unfortunately, like with American Haunting, they'll probably take an effective and creepy 'legend' and do away with everything that makes it scary in favor of cheap Hollywood effects and a detective story of sorts. If they make this one a good ghost ending, fuck that.

I saw that, which is why the trailer seemed so familiar (besides the genre tropes): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Haunting
It was the pilot episode.

Ed and Karen Parker move their family into an old Connecticut home to be near the hospital where their teenaged son receives cancer treatment. Soon after learning that their residence was once a funeral home, son Paul begins seeing entities, including four Dark men and a demon called the "Man in the Suit", and his health worsens. With his behavior becoming increasingly erratic, his parents have him committed to a mental hospital. Once the son is gone, the evil forces inhabiting the house turn on the rest of the family. In desperation, the Parkers contact psychic investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren for help.

The movie title's awfully generic (clinical even) though.

Thanks for the link to this thread Darkmites, I decided that in order to avoid confusion, I'll just continue this one!

It was actually the Discover Channel special that really sold me on this film. I got chills the entire time I was watching, and I can only imagine what a big budget remake could do to my heart rate. I'm also hoping that with a greater running time, they can show more of the creepy incidents that occurred...and not a largely summarized look at the events.

Also, here's a quite disturbing motion poster if you have not seen it yet...be prepared to be really disturbed (the noise alone made me job in my seat at work...awkward): Motion Poster

That is disturbing, especially if you have to scroll down and get the effect a bit at a time like I did (my window wasn't big enough and I wasn't sure what I was looking out until the kid's head came into view).
