Los Feliz/Silverlake

I want to move to this area sometime in the next month. Anybody got any recommendations for the coolest neighborhoods? Places to avoid?

And is it possible to rent a house (for three grand a month or less, preferably less), or am I going to be stuck in another goddamn apartment?

Between Hollywood and Franklin south/north and Vermont and Hillhurst west/east. Or you can go north of Franklin, but it'll cost more and I don't know that you gain much except being further from stuff.

From what I've seen on Craigslist, the only advantage to going further north (besides the ability to act like a snotty little shit over the fact that you live in the hills) is that it's much easier to find standalone houses in that area.

So far I haven't been able to find ANYTHING between Vermont and Hillhurst that doesn't share at least one wall with a neighbor.

Yeah, no help here sadly enough. Most of the people I know in the 'lake area pay like $1500 easy for a one-bedroom apartment.

Actually I know a perfect 2 bedroom house in the area, but it isn't available yet.

The house that my apt is attached to is empty and being renovated, and they don't seem to be in a hurry so I don't know when it will be available. I also don't know what they will charge for rent.

The house itself is pretty old, like 20's or 30's but it has some cool features, like being surrounded with shrubs and gates and a giant deck on two sides. 1 car Garage, laundry machines, water feature in front. Central heat/ac.

Potential drawbacks - new property mgr sucks, and you would have to live next door to me, hehe.

Since it won't be ready in the next month it is probably moot but I can inquire as to the availability and cost if you want.

Okay, fuck Los Feliz. Turns out I can get an actual house in the Hollywood hills for the same price as a lousy condo is LF.

slater, ive been away from LA for two years now, but Los Feliz (if you didnt already know) became the official "lets gentrify this place" spot in Los Angeles while I was still there. A lot of the young people moved out of Pasadena (where I was) and started moving to the Los Feliz area and as they did the prices starting shooting up.

You missed the boat on any good deals by about 3 years. Now its expensive as fuck, and full of hipsters...and carnicerias.

I forget where you live now Slater (the valley right?) have you looked into Burbank/Glendale?

I actually just rented a house in the Hollywood Hills yesterday. Close to the studios, Arclight, and New Beverly, which are basically the only three places I ever go. And surprisingly way cheaper than Los Feliz.

Plus, it's cool to wake up in the morning and see deer in your backyard.

Not only that, but during the rainy season, get ready for the mudslides. Those are always fun.

So when is the house warming party?
