The robber is described as a dark-skinned black man, 6 feet 4 inches tall, 200 pounds with a medium build, short black hair and brown eyes. The man was wearing dark colored jeans, a black undershirt and black shoes.
I'm not trying to nit-pick but the word "scratch" doesn't mean mutilate in my book. pics or it didn't happen!

I noticed on Drudge the font went from "Lose Your Shit Red" to "Mildly Hysterical Black," with still no link. Meanwhile, a Google search shows that right-wing blogs are going nuts, just in case. (I especially like how they put 'MUTILATED' in all caps.)

EDIT: The font is now down to the regular size. It's almost like each time Drudge refreshes, you can see where he took a deep breath shortly after his panic attack.

Hmm. They don't even mention her status as a volunteer either. From the earlier headline seemed to imply something more sinister.

I love, love, LOVE! how the right is only concerned about the safety and well-being of women when they perceive said women to be "theirs."

That being said, whether or not this attack was politically motivated, that's messed up.

Well it turned out the house that was shot up with the mccain sign was their campaign HQ manager. Maybe drudge confused the two or they have more details. Apparently it happened at 9 PM last night.

If it's true that he did it after seeing the McCain bumper, that's completely fucked up. Though it seems to be a particularly fucked-up "improvisation" after a robbery.

And, as Malkin mentions, if the mugger was carving her from her headside, he'd be writing that way. It would be harder to control her but I suppose a knife to the face is all the control I need.

I really don't want to believe that this is real but I also don't want to believe that it's fake.

Just for kicks I did copy the image, put it into Photoshop express, and used the flip horizontal feature. If you do that, the B appears on her left cheek, it's not backwards, and the picture still looks natural. But at least one of the news reports specifically says it was her right cheek, so it's not just a matter of the image being accidentally flipped (which I've seen from some digital cameras/photo software).

A couple of other things to think about: if the attacker was right handed (statistically likely since there are more righties than lefties), I think you'd more likely see the wound on the left cheek. If it were self-inflicted and the woman is right handed, you'd expect to see it on her right cheek. And I've spent too much time thinking about this.

Besides, how does a mugger's political affiliation bear any resemblance to the type of hate spewed by the Republican base at rallies where the candidates themselves are trying to elicit these negative reactions? I know the right will try to tie this into Obama's "get in their face" comment... but anyone who characterizes that as anything other than metaphorical is an intellectually dishonest douchebag.

I don't know about this story, but if she was laying on the ground that could explain the backwards 'B' (guy standing by the top of her head). On the other hand, the no medical treatment sounds more suspect plus I would think a violent attack with a knife would produce something far messier than that.

Yeah right, so she held her face perfectly still while the mugger carved a 'B' in her face. Right!

Any clever mugger would clearly have chosen the 'O' instead as it would have been easier and more probable to succeed.
