Hot Damn! We get Yuengling!

Yes. Been waiting for this. Yuengling Light is a fantastic beer and their Black and Tan is even better. Going to pick some up so daddy can enjoy his treats next Friday. Taking the kids Trick or Treating without good booze is a sin.

Yuengling picks their states they distribute in pretty randomly. Florida gets their beer, Ohio doesn't.

Don't go too crazy though, while Yuengling is good stuff, it's definitely a strong hangover beer.

First Stone Brewing, now Yuenling. This has been a good fall for beer nerds. I think they're having a kick-off party at Stout on Monday. That means hanging out in Buckhead, but sometimes you gots to fall on that grenade.
You can have it. Gives me a monster headache.

Keeping it about Atlanta, I enjoyed pooping in your airport during a layover today.

Yuengling Lager is the best cheap beer there is around here, but I got sick of it after a while. Honestly, there's nothing that stands out about Yuengling...it just tastes better than Coors or Bud and is basically the same price (it is the same price for a keg). I do enjoy their Black and Tan every once in a while, and their Porter isn't bad either.

I'm drinking Stone IPA at the moment...drinking Yuengling would be the equivalent of a glass of water at this point.

Yep, heard about this last night. Summit's Tavern up in Cumming has already advertised that they'll be serving it starting 10/27.

We used to get our stash when my wife would visit her mom in North Carolina. I was putting empty bottles in the bin at the recycle center one day, and a couple walked up and asked me where I got them from. They were from Pennsylvania, and were disappointed that Georgia didn't have it. I was going to pick up a case in Tallahassee this weekend, but no need to anymore.

Ah, it does my heart good to see the Yuengling love spread (being a Penn Stater, I've drank more than my fair share). If you're a fan, you should also check out their Lord Chesterfield Ale. It's good stuff.
I'll give you my Yuengling warning. Enjoy it from a can or draught, or at the very least be very careful about the bottles you buy. Yuengling still uses green bottles, so they skunk lightning fast. It's still my beer of choice here, but I really miss hanging out with my friends in Scranton when they were in college. Every night of the week some bar had 25 cent draughts. Of course, up there, it's just called Lager, or "a beer".

Ha! I was going to post and mention that very thing. Hell, part of Yuengling's advertising campaign has been built around it.

You just brought up a party flashback of when I chugged a bottle of Yuengling, then realized there was something growing in it. Luckily, I was pretty drunk so it didn't effect me like it normally would.

The reason for the green bottles, I would guess, is because it's cheaper. Yuengling out of the can really isn't bad though.

Damn, there goes my run to Atlanta. Better call the Snowman.

There's a Stephen King short story, "Grey Matter", that begins pretty much exactly like that.

Totally agree. Yuengling is top notch.

Yikes. Preferable to other "under $5 for a 6 pack" beers, sure, I guess. But "top notch"? Get thee to a brewery.
Yuengling sucks balls and is made worse by all the frat boy lovin' that it gets. It is the end all be all of beers according to some folk round these heyah pots.

I love bringing in Flying Dog and Rogue brews and watching these fucknuts I play tennis with turn their nose up at it over some bullshit Yuengling.

I wish Yuengling were distributed here, if only because beer is becoming an expensive habit, and I don't touch most adjuncts unless I'm already drunk. I'm aware that Yuengling uses corn, but it's harder to taste the 'cheapity' than in other similarly priced adjuncts. A bottle of Chimay makes me way happier, though.
Yuengling is a great party beer, it's cheap and it tastes pretty good out of a keg, much better than Budweiser, Coors, or Miller, and it's the same price. That's why I drink it, but believe me, I would much prefer a Stone or Rogue to Yuengling, but it's twice the price.
I'm not sure why anyone would try to compare Yuengling with any microbrew or specialty or import. Yuengling is a great CHEAP beer, but comparing it to Flying Dog or Rogue is like comparing a burger to filet mignon, why bother?

Neither Flying Dog, nor Rogue, are all that special, IMHO. Rogue is the most overrated brewery I've ever come across.

It irks me that I've reviewed close to 700 beers (beeradvocate.com), yet still have never seen Yuengling on sale anywhere.
I've only tried one Flying Dog actually, and it was an IPA, which I'm not a fan of. Can't remember if I had a Rogue or not, I was just referring to the above referenced "fancy beers". Yuengling is mostly an east coast thing, but I'm sure you could order it if you really want a sample. Personally, I'm pissed that I can't find Hamms out here, though from what I've been told, the nine years since I've had it are severely rose-tinting my beer goggles.

Try a few more. Not by Flying Dog. Stone IPA is distributed fairly nationally.
I should be clearer, it's the IPA part I don't like. I'm not a Pale admirerer, too hoppy for me.

You. don't. like. hops?

Okay, well you're probably a stout or porter fan. What're your favorites of those?
I'm mostly a Lager guy. I haven't met a stout I don't like, though Oatmeal Stout's and a good old fashioned Guinness are my favorite. There's a great local brewer in Baltimore (called Brewer's Art) that does a great seasonal stout called Cerberus Triple (which happens to be about 13% I believe?).Porter-wise, actually Yuengling has a really good one. I do like some Ale's, my favorite beer actually is Resurrection Ale by Brewers Art, a 7.5% ale that gets its name because the brewmaster revived a dead yeast culture by throwing sugar into the mix, which makes it the 7.5%. If you come out to B-More, let me know, it's a great bar.

By the way, I like hops, just in moderation.

IPAs are my favorite. I love hoppy and bitter beer. Being able to convert others via Sierra Nevada (because you can get it anywhere) over the last few years has been a joy.

Anyone here tried the Terrapin Rye out of Athens? Pretty damn good.

In college we used to buy the Spanish Peaks beers out of the NW. Delicious. Haven't seen them for sale even in Florida in ages.
If I ever head to Maryland, I'll drop a line.

Resurrection sounds interesting.

Guinness ... not a fan. Samuel Smith's oatmeal stout is pretty good. But, dollar for dollar, the best beer in the U.S. is Goose Island's Stockyard Oatmeal Stout (sold through the Trader Joe's label). I see it routinely for 4.99 or 5.99 a sixer. My review's at the top:

Stone IPA is probably my most favorite beer, but you can't get it on tap anywhere around here. Dogfish Head 60 minute IPA is a must for any fan of IPA's, and if you're a big fan go for the 90 minute (sold in 4 packs) or the deadly 120 minute (sold by the bottle, for $11 bucks. I have a bottle I've been aging in my fridge for a year and a half).

So I tried this Yuengling Black & Tan last night.

What a nondescript beer. I even had the presence of mind to ask my buddy who was drinking Coronas to my selection of IPAs to try it and tell me whether I had just ruined my palate for it with the stronger stuff.

Nope. He even said it tasted like metallic water.

Sheisse.

That's universally considered the worst of the Yuengling beers (check out the ratings). So ... maybe you chose a bad one to start with.
None of the Yuengling beers are exactly bursting with flavor. If you're used to strong flavored beers, it probably tastes like water. The reason people drink it is because it tastes good for the price. I don't know why people have a difficult time understanding this.

But any of your other basic cheap beers taste infinitely better than this stuff. I mean why turn down a Miller Lite for Yuengling? I haven't figured that out yet.

You would take Miller Lite over Yuengling? Try the Lager on draft next time (it's what, $1.25 for a pint?), and we can continue this discussion.

Seriously... Yuengling is great for a cheap beer. Runs circles around the piss water.

Not really random, they have a brewery here in Tampa so it stands to reason Florida would get the beer.
