Hank Williams III - Damn Right, Rebel Proud

I just listened to this, and I gotta say it's another solid release from the man, right on the level of Straight to Hell, it's definitely a little more punk. The CD has got what you would expect from Hank III the fuck you to the mainstream country establishment song "The Grand Ole Opry (Ain't So Grand)", and songs about drinkin' and druggin' "Six Pack of Beer", "Stoned and Alone", "Me & My Friends".

Then there are the, what can be considered 'crossover' tracks in "H8 Line", "Long Hauls and Close Calls", "3 Shades of Black" and the 10 minute G.G. Allin tribute "P.F.F." (Punch, Fight, Fuck). Which are probably the stand out tracks along with "Candidate for Suicide".

All that said, if you don't like country on any level, you'll probably not like this.

Totally going to buy this, but I've been a Hank III fan for a while.

And fuck his father. What a douchebag.

Yeah, fuck Bocephus, you gotta stick with grand pappy and III. What I find funny though is that none of them are actually named Hank.

Like I said, it's about as punk/metal album we're gonna get from unless he is every able to release an Assjack record.

I gotta say the only track on the album I wasn't really a fan of was "Workin' Man", "P.F.F." should have placed at the end instead of that one. "3 Shades of Black" is probably my favorite, it's just Hank III alone with a guitar singing some doom.

I've listened to it not knowing what to expect after sampling a few clips on Youtube. I like it. I'm not a big country fan, and this sure isn't straight up country, but I can tolerate some country rock, and some classic old school country. I guess there's some of that with Hank III. I don't know...it sounded pretty cool to me.

He's pretty much a mix of traditional country, rockabilly and punk. And then full on metal with his band Assjack.

He can channel Pappy when he needs to, though. See "Thunderstorms and Neon Signs".

Or even his cover of Senior's "I Could Never Be Ashamed of You" or "Alone & Dying".

And he can channel a little Johnny Cash too, a perfect example being "Louisiana Stripes".
