What's weird is the way you're ghoulishly studying her MySpace page and passing judgement on a complete stranger.

Oh. Yeah probably. Perhaps she hasn't even noticed that he's still on there. I know it's coming off that I'm judging her, but I'm really not. I have no problem with her being on Myspace for whatever reason. I just don't like seeing his pictures up there as a part of that family. And she pretty much admitted that she thinks he's responsible too, which makes it all the more creepy.

I'm reading a Tribune article about Balfour and his friends and family are portraying him as a good, gentle guy who made some mistakes that he's trying to atone for, while his pregnant girlfriend is saying that she lied about the alibi and that he was involved in the murders.

I really don't know what to think anymore. I just don't want to believe that this guy, who was related to these people and the step father and protector of the little boy would take their lives so callously.

You've expressed your significant outrage at a matter that in no way affects you, proving that you care and that you're possibly better than other people who don't care as much. You've fulfilled your public display of outrage duties for the day.

It is a bit morbid, but it's a natural curiosity. It's no different than pictures and details of missing/murdered individuals being showcased on Nancy Grace or Dateline or similar shows. I've been to the page three times, twice to look at pictures of the little boy, and once to read her updated blog on the situation.

The Myspace pages (both Jennifer's and Julia's) were publicized, and they got a lot of attention in the media--so yes, it's jarring to go to said pages and to see pics of the suspect all over the place.

I don't do prayers, but I was hoping for the boy's safe return and probably got a little overly invested in the whole drama of the situation.

Uh-huh.
Seeing as any marginally intelligent adult recognizes those two examples as exploitive garbage you're not exactly proving your case here.
Natural curiousity is glancing at an accident to you happen to pass, briefly lingering on a gruesome image on the television while changing channels.
It's not actively researching a violent crime, picking over the victims lives and repeatedly subjecting yourself to images you "don't like seeing" for no rational reason at all.

I guess so. It was wrong of me to discuss a story like this on a site like CHUD.

Edit: Nevermind.

Congratulations! You are the one billionth person to use this adage on the internet in an attempt at sarcasm. Hallelujah. Now go outside and play.
