Alone II: The Home Recordings of Rivers Cuomo

Apparently Rivers Cuomo is releasing another volume of Weezer/personal demos and unreleased material in late November - Exciting stuff, as the first "Alone" compilation was full of gems and felt more satisfying than either "Make Believe" or "The Red Album." Any fans of the band that haven't yet picked up the first one should definitely look into getting both of these.

Tracklist:

1. "Paper Face"
2. "Thrown It All Away"
3. "Don't Worry Baby" (Beach Boys cover)
4. "The Purification of Water"
5. "I'll Think About You"
6. "Walt Disney"
7. "Oh Jonas"
8. "Please Remember"
9. "Come to My Pod"
10. "The Prettiest Girl in the Whole Wide World"
11. "I Want to Take You Home Tonight"
12. "I Was Scared"
13. "Bad Girl"
14. "My Day Is Coming"
15. "I Don't Wanna Let You Go"
16. "Softies"

Can't wait for this.

I liked the first volume, but I don't think it was nearly as good as the Red Album. But yeah, I'll be picking up Volume II. I love that cover, too!

I'm so excited for this, isn't it coming out the same day/week as Chinese Democracy?

I Want To Take You Home Tonight has been getting a lot of repeated plays from me. Looking forward to that Beach Boys cover!

And yeah, that cover is genius.

Rivers talks to Pitchfork about Alone II and the cover:

Quote:
I want to do a really cool event to promote Alone II on the day of release. It's basically another Hootenanny, but it's a little different. Anyone can come, you don't have to bring an instrument, but if you want to, you can bring an instrument, and you the audience will pick the songs we play, and it can be anything. And I'll just print up the lyrics right there on the spot, I'll have to have a computer there or something, I'll get them off line, off the Internet. It can be any of my songs or any cover, and so, in some cases, it might just be one person [who] says, like, "Oh! Let's play this obscure B-side!" or something, some song from [unfinished Weezer disc Songs From] the Black Hole, and he may be the only person in the room [who] knows it, besides me, and then it will just be me and that person giving a concert to the rest of the room. And then the next song, there might be 20 people who know it. So that will be a very dynamic event, and very fun for me. And I won't have to bring a guitar [laughs].
!!!!

Oh and the tracklist has changed:

Quote:
01 Victory on the Hill
02 I Want to Take You Home Tonight
03 The Purification of Water
04 I Was Scared
05 Harvard Blues
06 My Brain Is Working Overtime
07 I Don't Want to Let You Go
08 Oh Jonas
09 Please Remember
10 Come to My Pod
11 Don't Worry Baby
12 The Prettiest Girl in the Whole Wide World
13 I Can't Stop Partying
14 Paper Face
15 Walt Disney
16 I Admire You So Much
17 My Day Is Coming
18 Cold and Damp
19 I'll Think About You

So, what's the count now? How much of "Songs from the Black Hole" is still gonna be unreleased after this album? I've lost count.

So is that picture of Rivers from 1987 or what?

So, this leaked. I quite like it. I know there are a bunch of fans of The Red Album in this forum, but I think this is easily the best Weezer record since Pinkerton.

Yes, it's not technically a Weezer record, and it's a collection spanning 15 years, but whatever. I'm making a point.

I think what's most remarkable is some of these demos are very recent, and still good. Given the tracklists of the past few efforts, I wonder where their heads are at that they passed on some of this.

The version of 'Paperface' on here sounds like Nirvana. Otherwise, its musically pretty interesting. Kinda 'meh' on the sound quality, but they are demos, after all.

Picked this up today, and I'm very impressed - Immediate favorites are "I Don't Want to Let You Go" and "I Was Scared."

Would definitely welcome an "Alone III" disc next year, as clearly Rivers has been holding some great material back over the years.

Finally got this, it's incredible. The Beach Boys cover is astounding. The new Black Hole material is stuck in my head which is frustrating because they're so short.

The footage from the Alone II Hootenanny is fantastic as well, though Rivers forgetting how Across The Sea begins is a downer. But his smile as a group of kids run through El Scorcho is great.
