The Obama half hour special - Page 2

I'm Barack Obama. I'm standing in front of one of the lost vaults of Al Capone. Tonight, live on TV, we're going to find out what's inside...
Haha, who knew fleed was political!?!
I thought before that voting McCain was retarded. Now, there's factual evidence showing it so.
Oh fleed. Oh poor, poor fleed. At the very least you could spell the man's name right.

But do tell us why it should be yanked after he paid for it.
Between fleed's post and the woman carving a B into her face reportedly having a history of mental illness, it makes me wonder why any semi logical person would want to be associated with that.

I would have also accepted Obama treating us to a Bob Ross painting lesson.

He needs to come out in Elvis' black leather outfit from the '68 comeback special.

I managed to lure Fleed into the political arena, I win!

Maybe fleed is just annoyed that Knight Rider is getting delayed by half an hour or something.

Actually, Fleed made a pretty smart post in the Bloomberg 3rd Term Thread that all of you missed.

Do not want Obama special.

dontEATnachos, Knight Rider is in the shop for the week...I just don't like seeing a Socialist, like Obama taking over the airwaves for nearly any reason...unless it is to concede that he lost the 2008 Presidential election...then he can have all the airtime he needs.

Myk, How do you spell Hussain...The easy way for me is either refer to Obama as Stalinesque, Communist, The Re-Distributist or as Michael Savage's favorite name..B.O.

Go away.
I'd like to officially welcome duke fleed to the politics forum, thank you for your contribution. This is exactly the type of well thought out political opinion we have been missing all these months.

His name is spelled Barack (with a C) Hussein (with an E) Obama. Come November 5, the easiest way to refer to him will be Mr. President-Elect

Bonus: Redistributionist does not need a hyphen but does need many more letters.
Myk, Thanks for the corrected spelling of Barack Hussein Obama...the once and future Junior Senator from Illinois.
A month ago I thought you were a harmless, even likable, kook.

Now I know you're just a part of the problem with this country.... thanks for revealing.....yourself.
Hereafter, everyone should refer to McCain by his full name in response to Fleed. He is no longer John McCain, Senate Maverick. He is John Sidney McCain III, fancy lad.
So wait, not only is Duke Fleed an autistic man-child, but part of the most disgusting branch of religious conservatism to hit the history of your country? That's neat.
Martin Savage, I am sorry to disappoint you...I am only a forced catholic...while I am not an athiest, I do not either go to chuch or pray.

He's right! Obama's negligible tax decreases will force us all into collective farms!

ElCapitanAmerica, Thank You for the welcome to this political forum.

C.Swicegood, Just because we disagree, it doesn't mean we cannot post opinions that are favorable of one another.
So, not only is fleed the laughingstock of the CHUD boards, but he's also the laughingstock of the political mainstream. There's a consistency there which makes me happy.

fleed: I believe the stations offered a half-hour to McCain in case he wants to do something similar.

My hopes for the Obama Half-Hour Variety Extravaganza:

A 30-minute long version of the Mike Gravel ad where he stares at the camera for a semi-eternity then chucks a rock in a pond.

OR, a half-hour standup routine consisting entirely of "Republicans walk like this, but Democrats walk like this."

You know, I was thinking the exact same thing. 30 minutes of Obama staring into the camera. Of course Cocoa Sugarbaker would probably suffer from a bad case of the vapors if that transpired.

On a serious note, I think it'll have a ton of testimonials in it that emphasize the "it's not about me but it's all about you" message he's been trying to convey for a while now. The last thing I expect is a victory lap. Every presidential campaign knows the cautionary tale of Truman vs. Dewey.

On the political front, I think this has many advantages. For one thing, it eats up alot of news cycles before with the speculation on what will be broadcast and even more analyzing the content of the ad the day after.

Another advantage is that the 30 minute buy shows that Obama isn't taking the election for granted. Sure McCain would like to spin this into Obama "measuring the drapes" but most people know that you don't buy 30 minutes of national air time for ego purposes.

Finally, it's a campaign event. I think we can agree that there are 6 touchstones or events that people center on in the general election. The 4 debates and the 2 conventions. This Obama infomercial gives people another thing to look forward to in this election season that goes beyond the stump speeches and 30 second ads. Depending on how it plays, this could give Obama a convention like bounce going into Tuesday.

My out there prediction, and there's no basis for it, is that McCain will buy up time after the special for a "rebuttal" ad that's maybe a minute. I base this on nothing except the thought that McCain is known for his dick moves such as picking Palin right after Obama's convention speech. We'll see.
Do Presidential candidates actually measure the drapes? Isn't there some steward in the Whtie House who knows how long the drapes are?
I think it'd be a brave move to have Obama not appear at all in the special. It might be a stronger argument to have others making the case for him being elected.

Even assuming that returning to your old tax brackets is socialist, why does what you like matter? I cannot bridge the gap between 'upsets Republicans' and 'should be pulled'.

Seabass Inna Bun, The redistribution of someones hard earned money, given to someone that doesn't pay taxes is the Socialist part of Obama's political agenda.

Who doesn't pay taxes on something? You buy a loaf of bread and you're paying taxes. Being on welfare does not mean you're homeless, they do own things, things they paid taxes on.

It's not like we're lining up the rich and the poor and playing Red Rover. The increased taxes paid go to the government, not directly to the poor. Now, if those extra taxes are used to pay for better health care and education for those that can't afford it, well, call me socialist, but, to coin a phrase, shouldn't a society be judged by how it treats the least of its members?
Whatever Obama does during his Cavalcade of Whimsy, I genuinely believe it should have a few short segments, maybe 2 minutes long, of certain demographics pledging their vote.

For example, the bit begins with a normal looking dude in his plumbers clothes, his full name (Joe Something) and home town displayed at the bottom of the screen, and he says "I'm Joe the plumber, and I'm voting for Obama", then quickly proceeds to a few more Joe the plumbers from across the country, then Joe the electrician/butcher/factory worker/fireman/cop/etc., then on to other names, but all blue-collar, middle-class working guys, all pledging their vote to Obama.

Afterwards, Obama talks about the economy, and how he intends to help people like them.

The next bit consists entirely of military personnel of all grades and ages, all pledging their vote. Afterwards, Obama talks about his plans in Iraq and Afghanistan, military readiness and foreign policy.

The next bit is from religious folks, lay people but mostly priests/reverends/rabbis/etc. of all denominations but heavily slanted towards Christianity, all again pledging their vote for Obama. Obama then talks about the social and charitable aims he has for the country, caring for the needy, etc.

It should close with one last segment, people from all walks of life, but with a few surprises - wealthy folks (I wonder if T Boone Pickens is voting Obama) and politicians, especially Powell and other people from the right side of the aisle. Cement the fact that he has supporters from every possible demographic, especially among those usually leaning Republican. It won't sway committed pro-McCain (or Palin)/anti-Obama folks, but might help bring some uncommitteds into the fold.

* * *

If I could, I would also have a commercial that played a couple of days before the election of both Obama and McCain together telling America that no matter who they choose, they should do their civic duty and get out and vote.

As long as the money gets to where it's supposed to go, I have no problem with it (our Govt. isn't purely capitalistic* anyway, we already have elements of socialism written all over it), and hopefully Obama will be able to take care of the governmental corruption that is inherent in these kinds of things (just a little money off the top, then some more, and more). I get pissed when tax dollars get used to line politicians pockets instead of helping people who need it, I just hope that doesn't happen in this case.

*Hmmm...
The problem is too many people make the mental jump from "socialism" to "communism" to "oppressive dictatorship", and that's not always the case.

Game 5 (second half) of the World Series is postponed for tonight and will probably happen tomorrow at 8:37PM. There is now no need for baseball fans in Tampa and Philly to be upset about the Obama special.
The Obama special is what pushes it back to 8:37PM though, right? Otherwise it would just start at 8:07PM so they can still get angry about it.
It's a 3 inning game, Nachos. Starting at 8:37 it'll still be over by 10:00.
I know they only have 3 innings, but saying it's starting at 8:30PM instead of the usual 8PM is exactly the definition 'delayed'.
People will only get pissed if it starts raining going into the 8th-9th inning, and the game gets called.

Hell, I'll be pissed if that happens.
Hasn't the broadcast of the game started at 8, but the actual game at around 8:20 or 8:30? 'Cause every time I've tuned in before then, I've seen what looks like pre-game.
Guys, with all the due respect I can muster for all of you wonderful folk - why do you entertain the very-clearly-made-up-persona that is fleed? He is someone taking the piss. Quite well and in a moderately amusing manner, from time to time (check out his mindless Obama=Communist Schtick above), but every time someone responds to his nonsense as if he is real, it encourages his fake moronity. Which was old about 6 months ago.

Phil Connors, I am a real person,I am not a persona, I post on CHUD.com, I am Duke Fleed. My opinions on Obama are not mindless at all, you simply disagree with them. What you consider old hat is also your opinion.
