Why does CHUD make my browser run like shit?

Long before the site revamp even happened, viewing CHUD (both the site and boards) on Firefox brings it to a crawl. Right-clicking only gives me a box but no options (even if I right click a Firefox window in the Start bar), a tabbed page will be viewable about 30 seconds after I clicked it, same goes with closing a window. I have this problem on both my laptop that has Vista and my desktop that has XP. Is anyone else having this problem?

I've since tried running the site on Google Chrome. It runs much better on that.

I use Firefox and experience none of those problems, so it's not simply the browser.

Same here. I'm running Firefox 3.0 and have never had a problem. Explorer, however....

Did you ever enable pipelining or change any of your config files? Sometimes that makes it run a little quirky.

I have problems with several websites(IGN, for one, and occasionally CHUD), and I think it's due to poorly-optimized FLASH stuff usually.

Flash stuff is wicked nowadays. Stick with Chrome for awhile.

I've noticed lately that visiting chud makes my CPU usage peak and it sounds like my work computer's going to blow up. I'm using FF, and have only noticed this in the last month.

Doesn't happen to me at home.

At this point, I'm sure it's un-optimized Flash content. I'm on the verge of disabling it all around.

Just download the FlashBlock addon, which lets you enable/disable each flash object with a click.

I know Nick and Devin are against it, but I do run an Ad-Blocker (Ad-Block Plus) and a Java blocker. It probably makes the site run smoother. I do disable them and click on the ads every once in a while, though.

Thanks for the tip, Kimbell.
This isn't an intentional move on my part to block CHUD advertising, many sites now(IGN, like I said before), just have so much Flash stuff that it bogs it down like fuck.
Also, in retrospect, I've had more problems with Firefox 3 than version 2. Maybe it's something they'll iron out.

Same here. In particular, I'm running into this problem where if I try to read an article linked from the boards, the new window won't close, and the other window starts running sluggish.

Use Chrome guys. It's like FF. You can export everything to it.

I'm not a "rag on the ads" guy but I think a lot of the problem is that stupid Wrath of the Lich King ad. Whenever I notice CHUD screwing with my browser (FF v 2.whatever) it's when the WoW ad is featured.
