Super Mario Rpg

I downloaded this from Wii and now I'm addicted. This was one of those games that I always wanted to play. I bought it in college and then resold it on Ebay for beer money when I realized it was going for 100+. I was never a big RPG gamer as a kid, although I had an affinity for the aesthetic and style. This is a really fun game even if it can be incredibly tedious at times.

I wish they went all out and did a new riff on the game for Wii.

Apparently, the Sonic RPG for the DS is exactly that. But if you're talking strictly about Wii software, Super Paper Mario is supposed to be the "sequel" to the Mario RPG. I also downloaded this on a whim and played through the first few maps, but so far its sitting in my pile of shame.

I so wish this was on the DS. It is, literally, my favorite game of all time. The dialogue and characters are surprisingly entertaining and the story stays compelling. There's also a ton of little side quests that mean nothing, but are fun to pull off anyway.

Oh, and Smithy is one of the biggest sonofabitch difficult end bosses on any platform. Just when you think you've got him beat...

Ugh, Smithy....that cocksucker.

Probably in my top 5 games of all times as well. I replayed it so many goddamn times. I had all my SNES games stolen many moons ago, and I bought a few back that were important to me, and the first was this. Everyone needs to play this game.

It's still so, so much fun. I keep getting sidetracked by other games, but I need to get my ass back in gear and finish it up.

One of the greatest games in my view. And dammit I find Mallow to be so cute. Cloud people with that cute little floaty way they walk.

Okay, I asked this in the Wii thread, but got no answer... how does this compare to Paper Mario, also available on VC?

I have Paper Mario, and like it, but have never played Mario RPG.

My question is similar but...the opposite. How does this game compare to Paper Mario?

The first two Paper Mario games are great. Super Paper Mario is pretty crappy. It's not an RPG, more like a side-scroller with hit points and that kind of thing. It would have been better as either a full-on RPG or a full-on platformer.

I can't say really RPG wise since both have their own unique story. But I figure Super Mario RPG is the great salute to the SNES. And it allows you to fight a Final Fantasy Character.

Paper Mario features a Sea-Captain Bomb-omb. So both have their strengths.

I want to buy a Wii just for this game. That's how much I love it and how much I hate a former friend of mine for losing my SNES copy.

The Paper Mario games are cute, but kind of tedious. The Thousand Year Door in particular is an eight hour game stretched out to 20 thanks to the nonstop fetch quests.

And yeah, Super Mario RPG is pretty much a perfect game.
