MTV Music

MTV has set up MTV Music, a site that includes their entire catalog of music videos. The first cool thing I remember from MTV in at least 12 years or so. Enjoy.

To get this started, and perk up your day. Erasure

The Rick Astley video is the third most viewed and the top rated video. After watching it tens of millions of times on YouTube, Americans still haven't gotten sick of it....even when it stopped being funny after the first couple of times.

Best video ever?

Dammit, it's the edited version. That's bullshit.

Hah I love the 80s
Wow, that's actually awesome. It allowed me to find this which made me so very happy.
Oh yeah, nobody works a crowd like Mr. Phil Collins!

I call shenanigans on the "whole catalog" (no offense meant, BillyG).

Captain Sensible? No. Saga? No. Moving Pictures? No. Marillion? No. Kim Wilde? No. Bonnie Tyler? No Musical Youth? No.

Whole catalog my butt. The very least they could have done is bring Martha Quinn in to vet the list. How am I ever going to get my pubescent groove back without the Romantics and Chilliwack?

Yeah, there's also no Adam Ant and only video with the Ants.

Yeah, it's definitely not the whole catalog. Gizmodo originally touted it as such, but it's missing a lot of stuff. The site does say it's in beta though, so expanding the catalog is sure to happen.

Can anyone actually comment or rate videos? I see how many comments, or how the video is rated, but the option to do so doesn't show for me.

I treid to rock out with Rainbow and got squat. I thought that CAN'T HAPPEN HERE!

"Jesus Lizard" not found. It's a trap.
No Aldo Nova? This whole catalog business is a FANTASY.

WHO'S BEHIND THE DOOR? Not Zebra, apparently. You'll have better luck searching youtube for older music videos.
Yeah, definitely not the whole catalogue. I'm searching the bona-fide MTV archives and we have videos on a lot of those bands, I think they're putting out ones that people would know more? Dunno, I actually had heard nothing about this until this thread (company solidarity what?!).

Oh...Aldo Nova did that song. That makes sense.

Seriously, it's a fun database to dick around in when you got nothing else to do.

Now...to find a way to pry The State from the draconian jaws of Iron Mountain...

Man, you're so out of the loop with your company. When Riki Rachtman returns to power, you'll be the last to know.

Well, we did do an interview with the guy a few months back...he looks weird without the long hair.

If any of you fellas are as upset as I am that Bertie Higgins' wonderous Key Largo isn't available then please enjoy this presentation of it via youtube. It appears that's the best way we'll be able to view the video on an hourly basis until MTV gets their GODDAMN HOUSE IN ORDER!

My fingers are officially crossed. It would be extremely cool to old farts like me if there was some way to browse playlists by month or something. I'm sure there are boatloads of one-hit wonders that I don't remember...but some neurons might spark if you could see what the VJ gang were playing in October of 1982.

Heh. October of 1982...good times.

ETA: Rainbow? Zebra? Aldo Nova? It's like you guys are plugged in to my subconscious! Uriah Heep!

Damn straight, Molt. And where in the hell is my Donny Iris? Oh well, I can get my fill of 'Ah, Leah' here, at least:

What's the point of having an incomplete music video site when ALL of this is available on youtube?

I already prefer it over Youtube because it's not filled with grainy copies from a 15 year old VHS (of which I have several of my own still).

So sexy

I'm talking about the lead singer (the one and only David Coverdale), of course.

Judges also would have accepted this obvious choice.

I still think THIS is one of the best music videos ever made.

How come they have the Arcade Fire videos for Laika, Tunnels and Power Out but not for Rebellion which seemed to get the most airplay out of the lot of them.

Phil Collins was a good looking man back then, wasn't he?

Yeah. But it's Moby. *shudder*

Jeffrey Tambor

Alright, let's see who can help me out. I swear I recall seeing a Phil Collins or Genesis video where they were on a stage and it was raining and the drum beats were causing water to splash up everywhere. I can't seem to locate it. Any help?

This needs a feature where you can search by director.

You can call him Al. Now with pop-ups! The good kind, not the crazy-screaming CHUD kind.

Not viewable outside the U.S. Fuck you, internet.
Have you tried some sort of DNS proxy service based in the US? That could help.

To be fair, most of the videos are on YouTube, in similar video quality.
