It seems I have been harsh in my distaste for this sometimes brilliant band. I think a lot of that has to do with their fans. I could never get passed the Deadhead stereotype to listen to the music of the actual band.
I am currently listening to a show called Deadends and Detours on the CKUA network. It's dedicated to the music created by the Dead, their various members in solo capacity and by bands influenced by the Dead. Needless to say it's a pretty expansive show but the music so far has been really enjoyable. They've been playing bits from the Merle Saunders/Garcia collaboration as well as plenty of Micky Hart's solo stuff and some of the current jam bands.
Can any chewers point me in the direction of other stuff by the Dead (as a band or as solo artists) that really stand out for them?
