DDD shipped mine out today.
I forgot I ordered this. I don't own any of the seasons and $75 was a good price.

It's a virtual repackage of the sets already released, but at a cheaper price. Pretty good stuff there. Especially, the last season.

So, those new commentaries and featurettes are just the stuff that was packaged in the original sets, right? I can feel comfortable holding onto the 4 volumes I already bought?
Yeah, its all the same extras.

Props, Anderson, for pimping the last season. A lot of folks were disappointed by the character re-designs, but the writing was the best the team would do until JLU.

I already have the four individual volumes but I've considered selling them and buying this set.
Volume 4 had Over The Edge. That episode's worth the price of that box set by itself.

The ads on that dvdactive page mention a new bonus disc documentary called "Shades of the Bat: Batman's Animated Evolution".

I'm pretty happy to have gotten all 4 during a Hastings Used Sale - buy 2 get two for 2 cents. $46 for all four combined

Pfft, you can't trust those Limey bastards at DVDActive.

This is apparently my birthday present (comes out Tuesday, birthday's Monday). I own the first volume already and the rest were always on my "Hey, you should actually get that now" list. Worked out well for me.

This is a Pretty package. The plastic parts they used To keep all the discs together (there are two dvd cases with 8 discs in each case) seem pretty cheap and flimsy, though.

I thought every single character looked cooler after the redesign.

I opened up the Volume One and Two container thing and the pegs holding the disc holders had popped out so the entire thing emptied out into my lap.

Thankfully none scratched but yeah, flimsy's an understatement.

So what is the bonus disc like? I haven't seen any details. I'm not planning to upgrade, but is it a nice extra doc?

I generally agree. The redesign swept away the lingering elements that were stuck on Fleischer homages and unified the Dini/Timm look (To be fair, we should really just call it the Murakami Look). They went too far with Joker, though, and all the female characters suddenly became midgets.

I think the Riddler was the only one that I really didn't like, and the JL version of the Joker was the best balance. I didn't like the revamping of Cat Woman as a character. She kind of became just another thug.
The JL Joker was just the Return of the Joker model re-used, right?
Sort of, his hair wasn't all slicked back and his costume was closer to that of BTAS.

I disagree. I'm not a fan of the redesigns. And I'll never understand why Bullock got fatter and Gordon got frailer.
The lack of red lips on the Joker made ZERO sense to me then, and makes zero sense to me now. Anyone know what went into THAT decision? the black eyes were cool.

I think it's my favorite animated Batman design (from the last season)
Also, the evolution of the Bruce Wayne and Batman voices from Episode 1 all the way to the end is kinda cool. He definitely hit his stride by the third season, but Season 1 of Justice League is where it was absolutely perfect.

I really loved the Scarecrow redesign.

Gordon got older, Bullock got... fatter? What's not to get?

The Documentary is nothing special. It's 22 minutes and goes through all of the animated shows Batman has been in. You've heard the animated series crew say the same things on the regular disc special features. The only other thing on the bonus disc a GOTHAM KNIGHT featurette. I don't think I'll ever watch that.

Which seasons had the episodes where -

1) Superman took over as Batman? And he kicks the crap out of Bane (wait, that might've been a Superman: TAS episode now that I think about it).

2) the rough approximation of The Dark Knight Returns (I think it was 'tales of the dark knight' where the kids are all telling their version of who Batman is)?

Those are my two favorite episodes I think.

I'm OK with those changes (there's supposed to be a six-year 'jump' between seasons 3 and 4), but how come Batgirl got shorter?

'Knight Time'. And I believe it was a Supes ep.
