Best way to search for old threads?

This once came up in another thread, but I can't remember which one it was for the life of me. With the search engine being broken for threads over a year old, it's tricky, and a lot of people seem to use Google instead. I've tried it a few times, with mixed results. What are the best search terms to use?

Also, if an old thread gets a bump, does it become searchable within the CHUD search?

Thanks in advance.

This comes up often. I'm almost sure that Google works every time and is strictly the best choice.

"[search terms] site:chud.com"

or "[search terms] site:chud.com/forum"

As for what specific words to use, it depends on what you're looking for, and it's hard to explain in general, but you'll figure it out after a few tries and some logic.

edit: if you want to give an example, that'd be great, and we could talk about what search terms would be optimal

Thanks a lot, James, and yeah that's one of the threads I was talking about.

Well for instance I was looking for a post-release thread for Punch-Drunk Love a few weeks ago, and used a few variations of "chud forum(s)" "punch-drunk love". I found a few pages of results, but not what I was after.

I've never tried the "[search terms] site:chud.com/forum" method, but I will now.

Right now I'm looking for a thread where people did their top-ten superhero(or comic-based?) films. Could have been in drafts and lists or movie miscellany. I'll give it a shot now...

*Edit- Yeah, that worked better. Thanks again!
