Pieces (1982)

Picked up the dvd at the same time I got Poultrygeist, and I saw Pieces first. Damn if this isn't an entertaining piece of sleazy trash. Despite having Christopher George, Lynda Day George, and Paul L. Smith, the flick really seems like something Troma would have put out back in the day.

The awesome synth score rocked, and the ending made no sense, yet fits in with most of the stuff in the movie that just seemed to be slapped in there. Also, the ending "patchwork" person reminded me of the patchwork man in X-Files: I Want To Believe.

The acting is terrible, the plot makes no sense, there's really no reason for this to be as enjoyable as it is but I love this movie. I'm so envious of the people who were able to see this at the New Beverly recently. The ending is probably one of the best WTF moments ever.
How is the restored DVD? I saw this on a crappy bootleg and just wonder if seeing the cheapness of the gore hurts or helps the film.

The restored dvd looks pretty good, and it's not murky. The gore looked cool for the most part. No complaints from me. The elevator scene was particularly brutal.

My favorite scene in the flick is with the Kung-Fu professor, what in the hell is that...?!?!?! It's classic.

This movie is a blast. At times seems like it's deliberately a horror comedy. I saw it last year at a 24 hour horror movie marathon and it was probably the highlight of the event for me, and that's saying a lot.

One of the best "crowd movies" I've ever seen.

looking forward to getting the new DVD as my old copy (B side of Motel Hell IIR) is horrendously bad quality

Ohhhh, yeah! THAT was the kind of limb hacking, blood gushing gore I wanted, and didn't get, from TCM. Which kept it from going from really good to one of my favorites. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying for a minute that "Pieces" can hold a candle to TCM in terms of overall quality in any OTHER sense; TCM is certainly a better movie. But being the gorehound I am (and I was even worse when I was younger, like when this came out on VHS) I always thought "Pieces" got at least that part of the "maniac with a chainsaw" formula right.

Yep. The opening night showing of this for Eli Roth's festival at the New Beverly is pretty legendary already.

I have to wonder if Lucky McKee is a fan of this film, as MAY practically ends the same way.
