Moral Orel

I've been watching the new (and last season apparently) of Moral Orel, and Jesus some of the episodes have just been some of the darkest and depressing things I've seen in a while. Well, except for the most recent one "Dumb", that one was actually an oddly sweet episode.

Too bad it's ending, it seems to have just hit its stride.

I'm guessing they took the direction they did because they knew they were getting cancelled. I mean, the show went from a pretty pedestrian, if mildly entertaining, lamponing of Christian fundamentalism to...I don't even know what it is now. There's some seriously dark, fucked up shit going on in this last season.

Especially the episode "Alone", I was watching that one and just thinking what the fuck? I did laugh when I read what the website had written for that episode's description; "The final nail in the show’s coffin."

This is a show I love to death, but really never get a chance to see. I barely get to watch Adult Swim these days. I suppose I need to check on the DVD's for this.

I've only seen a few episodes from early on in this show's run, but I'll definitely check and see what's been going on with this season. Sounds great.

In hindsight, the hunting trip episode from season 2 was a pretty good indicator of the direction the show was going to head into. But the episode that's playing on adultswim.com right now is probably the only, like I said an oddly sweet episode in the series, and it's coming off the heals of an episode where a character gave herself an apparent coat hanger abortion. So fucked up.

With this season I think Moral Orel is up there with The Venture Bros. and Home Movies as one of the best things Adult Swim has done.

There two new episodes up online, the one about Orel's dad and his childhood is kinda fucked up though not as messed up as the earlier episodes.

Also they seem to love using Mountain Goats songs a lot this season.

The series finale is online now, with creator commentary. I thought it was a pretty ending to the show, showing that despite everything Orel grew up to be a pretty well adjusted guy in the end. It does suck that the episode orders were cut down, as the show took a really fucked up but interesting turn this season as opposed to the first two. Like I said it was a pretty ending for the show.
