Election Night 2008

Thread Starter
I'm sure most of us never thought it would ever get here. As the Daily Show guy said, 'let's just fucking vote already!' So, seeing as this year's election is bigger than the Superbowl, World Series, NBA Finals, the Oscars, the Emmy's and the Pulitzer and Nobel awards...

1) How is everyone celebrating/mourning this momentous day?
2) Who are you with?
3) What are you drinking?

1. The usual bar we always go to.
2. Bunch of co-workers.
3. Whiskey, because I'm hoping to get into a fight.
1. Probably at home with the TV on and monitoring Daily KOS and here.
2. Just the fiance.
3. Beer, the amount of which depending on how things go.
1. After my early morning trip to the polls, I will be coming home to absorb the election via television. By 4, if it looks like McCain is losing, I will turn on Fox News and bask in the glory.

2. If McCain wins, I'll be drinking myself to death alone. If Obama wins, PARTY!

3. Jameson and some kind of beer (Sam Adams if I'm feeling patriotic).
1. I'll be watching from home. It's midnight here when your election coverage really kicks in so it will be a long night/morning with lots of flicking the channel between the danish channels covering it and CNN plus CHUD naturally.

2. Home, alone.

3. Coffee, lots of it!
1. With charts and tables and polling numbers at home
2. I'll be on an online chat (via XBL) with some fellow political junkies
3. Arrogant Bastard Ale... with Jack Daniels if things go terribly, terribly wrong... or if Obama wins Tennessee.
1. I'll be hitting the library before work to vote. After work, I'll be coming home to spend the evening with the pundits on the boob tube.

2. Wife has to work, but 16-yo daughter has a high interest in this year's festivities, so we'll likely watch through the evening together.

3. Rum and coke, most likely.
Watching at home, staying as late as i need to.
Alone
Whiskey
1. Avoiding the wingnuts at work until I get home, compulsively checking the news sites and blogs, posting here.

2. Swice Girl and some friends at home, I'll also be on the boards and in chat as much as possible.

3. Sangria (hey, my wife's friends like the stuff), and Killian's Red.
Chat!
I forgot about that one.
Chat it is!
1. I'll be at the gym until until about 9pm our time, but I'll be able to watch the coverage from there. I'll probably watch it when I get home as well.
2. My wife will be with me at the gym (and afterwards).
3. Sport drinks...followed by lots and lots of scotch.
Misfit (Will) is coming over to eat pizza (or Long John Silver's!) and watch the results pour in. We did the same four years ago. It was not a fun night.
Spending most of the night with my wife, sticking with The Daily Show's Inelection Live show. Should McCain win, we're both hitting the bottle. Should Obama win, we're fucking like AIDS was cured.

The next day, whoever wins, I intend on getting a tattoo. Not candidate specific or any such bullshit. Ideology specific, more like.

That's not an ideology. That's a lifestyle.
1. Since the election only starts into high gear around midnight over here, we will first watch Champions League and then hit my place. TV and Internet and Fridge are prepared.
2. Me a few friends and a mate of mine from Texas as special guest.
3. Gin Tonic. Lots of it. And beer. Even more. And depending on the momentum I have a good array of whiskey for special occasions.
Man, if anyone of you America based people own a slingshot you should really stream the coverage for us that are stuck with CNN and BBC. Like Jan, I would love to watch FOX and The Daily Show tomorrow!

This, but I'm broke and short on Bushmills, so I won't start the whiskey unless things go horribly wrong.
1. Going to the bar to toast in victory or get drunk in defeat.
2. With my gal.
3. Jack and Cokes.

It's funny because I had this vision of staying up all night drinking with a nervous stomach. But Virginia results should be reported by 8pm. If Obama wins Virginia, it's pretty much over.

I also told my girlfriend that if McCain wins, I'm headed to Taco Bell and I won't stop eating until I'm dead. (She's a nutritionist).
1. I will be watching at home, in rural Ohio.
2. My wife and daughters, possibly a couple of friends, and, most importantly, my Coon Hound.
3. Beer, Coors Light.

No, I will not have voted for McCain.
I'm over in Europe (Belgium) but I've kept a close eye on the election for months now... I truly believe the whole world will be a bit f**ked if the wrong guy wins.

Anyway, tomorrow evening an LA buddy who got stuck here is coming over with a couple of bottles of good wine. We're gonna drink, eat sushi, smoke reefer, and switch between BBC & CNN coverage, some DS & CR clip re-viewing, and the odd game of Soulcalibur or Midnight Club I suppose. All of this till the crack o'dawn.

And yeah, anyone who's recording Daily Show special, please feel free to put it online asap.

Well, then you have to make McCain and Obama characters and have them fight. The only true way to predict this election (and obviously start McCain's health at about half, only way to be accurate).

1) At home, whacked out on caffeine and obsessively checking every single website possible with the TV blaring and radio on.
2) Odessa.
3) The tainted blood of the neighborhood Republicans.
Taco Bell, Long John Silver's? This is if McCain wins, right?

Otherwise, don't you want to live to see the inauguration?

1) I'll be at the usual bar where we've been watching results. It's been a tradition since the Santorum defeat speech with his kids on stage. Seeing that on a large screen in a full bar in Philly was great.

2) The usual friends.

3) Philadelphia Brewing Co. Kenzinger draft

No, I will not have voted for McCain.

A coon hound is a good friend to have by your side during election results.

Wife and daughters, too. But yeah...
Is this where we'll be talking about the election night results? I vote we keep it in the mega thread. Finish things out where we started.
1. Most likely the gym (Just like how I did Super Tuesday)

2. Nobody

3. Two cans of Boddington's
Knowing our tendency for this sort of thing, MissZooey will inevitably cross-post with me...

1. We're throwing a blatantly partisan election day party with homemade pizza, drinks, apple pie, commemorative buttons, and a dry-erase board of the U.S. (I'm missing the beginning, though - I'm in class until 8).

2. About 18 people, I think. It was going to be a small affair with some bandmates and stuff, but the number kept getting bigger.

3. We just picked up a bunch of various wines and we've got plenty of hard liquor, but but we're pretty sure the official drink of the night will be the Screwdriver, in keeping with the orange juice motif. We were trying to think of a way to incorporate arugala, but it probably wouldn't go all that well on the pizzas or in a drink.

On my run schedule, I have a 15K marked down. After I get home from work, I'll change, stretch, hydrate and run, run like a fucker, like nothing at all is happening.

Then, I'm ordering a large pizza with extra mushrooms and a side of hot sauce, busting out the vanilla coke I picked up on my last visit to the U.S. of A. (which I've been saving for this night!), and switching between MSNBC, FOX, CNN, and every website I can think of.

My family will be there, but there is nothing emotionally invested for them, so they will mock me as i bite my fingers to nubbins. Though I teach a first period class the next day, I don't think I'll sleep for a second.

I have a terrible, terrible feeling something awful is going to happen tomorrow.

1) How is everyone celebrating/mourning this momentous day?
I'll be at work until 4:30, then it's off to the gym for a bit, and then over to a friend's place for a formal dress Election Night party.

2) Who are you with?
Friends.

3) What are you drinking?
I'm a teetotaler. Though, if I know my friends, there may be some...herbal refreshments on hand as well.

That's my take. If somehow this all goes upsidedown(especially involving some suspicious technicalities) I'll be heading over to Whitey K's to start killing myself foodly.

However, I expect(moment of supreme confidence here!) to be passing out Devil Dogs like a proud father come the late evening.
1. We are hosting the Unabashedly Partisan Pizza and Pietacular. There will be free wi-fi, electoral map coloring, humorous political buttons designed by my sister and her girl, pizza, cupcakes, and homemade apple pie. Liberals only, please.

2. At last count, 17 of our closest friends. In our two-bedroom apartment. Eep.

3. We bought six bottles of wine at Whole Foods last night. Screwdrivers, gin and tonic (because DaveB does not celebrate without his Tanqueray), and whiskey and ginger ale will also be available. Juice boxes for the young Obama supporters in attendance. When two major networks call it for Obama, I'm breaking out the sparkling wine. If McCain wins it, we're doing shots and taking to the fucking streets.

edit - as always... Dammit, Dave!

Does that mean if Obama is declared the winner tomorrow night. Your pants will just automatically drop?

Do DaveB and Zooey have meeting to discuss their press releases? (releasi?)

Tanqueray, Jameson and Pie. Hmmmmmm.....

We probably should. We could cut our overall number of posts in half.

How about muddling some arugula into a Bloody Mary with pepper vodka? No way to make that blue, unfortunately.
1) I'm working at home so I'll pick up a pizza (its been tradition for the past 8 years) at around 7 and sit around and watch the results in HD.

2) I'll be chatting online with out of state chewers and some other friends throughout the night.

3) If I don't drink alcohol or caffeine I won't make it up past 11 (just ask the people at the wedding I was at this weekend). Since I have work the next day I'll be with a few 2 liter bottles of Diet Pepsi (unless McCain wins, I'm breaking out the absolut and blowing off work).

1. Grant Park, Chicago
2. Anywhere from 70,000 to 1,000,000 (sure, Daley) friends and fellow supporters.
3. Obama wins, beer; Obama loses, Jameson

Food coloring?

edit - Pop, we want live, up-to-the-minute, on-the-ground coverage. You have a responsibility to your fellow Chewers.

I'll think of something. Its moments like this that I wish I had an iPhone so I could post on-the-go.
I don't know how anybody can plan their liquor if Obama loses. I'm willing to suck down a bottle of Murphy's Oil Soap if it means I get to sleep peacefully in a pool of my own pine-fresh excrement through another four years under the elephant.

1) How is everyone celebrating/mourning this momentous day?
At home (wishing I could vote), watching the returns on CNN until the wee small hours. Hopefully the outcome will be evident early on.

2) Who are you with?
Mi esposa.

3) What are you drinking?
Molson Canadian or Fosters.

I'm going to be in a hotel and traveling most of the day, to Seattle. Very long trip.

A co-worker will be there, but pretty much by myself.

Mojitos!

1. I'll be exit polling in the LA-area, then going home to watch the Daily Show and MSNBC.

2. Definitely with my fam. Maybe my sis and niece will come over.

3. Merlot if it's Obama. Drain-O if it's McCain.
Since I'm a stay at home dad, I'll probably have CNN on from mid-morning until it's all over. My older kid is in school, so it'll be me and my 8-month old, Diet Dr Pepper, and a heaping dose of anxiety during the day. Then we'll have a break for dinner and bedtime for the kids, and my wife and I will watch to the bitter end. Switching to Newcastle at night, either in celebration or mourning.
I have the added bonus of not working on Wednesday, so I can stay up all night either celebrating or checking out one-way flights to Belgium.

Not a big drinker, but I might make an exception tomorrow. White Russians, most likely.

Probably watching alone.
1. Don't know yet. Depends on who's having parties. But I'll know by the time I get home from work how social I should expect to be. If it's leaning one way, I'll probably just stay at home and get a bottle of something. If it's the other way, it'll be a house party, or someplace deeply partisan.
2. Surrounded by friends or strangers, doesn't matter.
3. Whatever's around, though I'll probably grab some Racer 5.

I wish I was in WI, sounds like you guys are going to have a blast.
