Please. I'm not calling for a ban on drafts, but trying to go through three seperate threads, figure out who voted for what, is a nightmare and if you don't have a stake in it (ie, are participating) there's no motivation to go through it all.

I say this as someone who has TRIED to be an observer. It's just too difficult and not worth the time.

But don't you have trouble ordering at Chipolte because it's too complicated?

That's an important distinction, but it's not like there's any real barriers for new people signing up. It's only natural that people with a strong interest in movies (and drafting) flock to the movie drafts. And, if they have a fun time, they'll want to return.

New blood getting injected is a good thing, although I think there's been plenty of diversity of choices in the last few drafts, but I don't see how a moratorium directly gets new blood involved.

What will get new blood involved is a) a quota (say 5 slots for newbies) and b) different topics.

Says you. It's not that hard to put together a list. And you're likely to scramble for replacements anyway when it's gutted in the first round.

I'm just saying, I should be able to order a chicken burrito and have that be that. They should know how to make a burrito. It's their job. I shouldn't have to explain to them how to make it.

So you tried to be an observer by keeping track of who picked what? Going about it totally wrong. Your motivation should be to learn about new films you might like to see. I would have thought you'd be all over such a thread.

Shit, I could barely keep track of who picked what and why, but the discussion threads were usually full of nuggets.

Have you ever been to that salad fastfood joint, Chop't? Your head would explode.

If in a week you can't make a decent list of say, 70's movies, or horror movies, what the hell would someone do on CHUD? Or participate in the draft? I came in the horror draft without a list, and did pretty well. I had reminders, but I don't need a week to do a movie list.

People have different strategies. I like to have a list of favorites, some based on themes, as well as some stuff that I know others may not have heard of.

But aside from putting together lists, its a matter of not everyone having the ability to fully participate. Sure I can slap together a list and post my pick at the end of the day. But I like to be around during the draft, talking smack and discussing people's picks. Unfortunately, that requires time I don't have right now. It wouldn't hurt to give people time to work out their schedules. If I know a draft is happening in a month, I can plan my schedule around it. Get work done ahead of time, so I can spend the time during the day on the boards. Its just a courtesy so that a maximum amount of people can be involved.

Eileen replied saying that she liked the idea but wanted me to hold off until January.

Draft: Rock Band Draft

Monday: Pick a singer
Tuesday: Pick a guitarist
Wednesday: Pick a bassist
Thursday: Pick a drummer
Friday: Free for all, pick a 5th musician of your choice (second singer, second guitarist, keyboardist, tuba player, whatever) and name your band.

Multi-instrumentalists can be drafted multiple times: Someone can draft Eric Clapton as a guitarist. Someone else (or the same drafter) can also draft Eric Clapton as a singer.
My supergroup already won that draft, fella.

In 2 months time, we'll have a true and proper battle of the bands and find out.
Can we also have a moratorium on threads where Devin says mean things about religious people? There seems to be one of those a week.
I'm surprised it took this long for this post.
The 70s Draft and the Horror Draft were very much fun, and like some of the other guys have said, they were important in getting me to see films that I'd missed or never even heard of. The Rep Draft was fun as well because it involved much more strategy, but all of the extraneous follow-up to that draft just wasn't feasible due to an extremely busy life.

I think it's a good idea to wait a few months before we start another draft.
Isn't there a whole forum for "Drafts and Lists"? Let me reiterate that the drafts aren't my cup of tea. But this decision is odd and seemingly without justification.
I'll create a Chewer draft. You create a team of Chewers, and they all fight at the end in the Thunderdome.

I'll draft Cobretti, Minsky, The power couple, MissZooey and DaveB and finally, Mr. Fabulous, because every team needs a bitch.

EDIT: I have Cobretti, LD. He's mine, and I'll make him eat your soul.

...
I'll take The LD, Soul Ahn Ice, and Jonathan Banks is my hero. We'll also take jcassady. And Cobretti will defect to our side. We will then form a giant DC SuperChewer, Voltron-style, and destroy you all.

Let's instead forget about this draft nonsense and band together to develop a sitcom for Ripoll where each episode he is faced with a mundane task which he refuses to do because it's too difficult. This could include such classic episodes as turning on the dishwasher, explaining a problem he's having to the cable company, trying on clothes at a store, making dinner reservations, renting a car, following a map, and filling out a bank deposit slip. Each episodes begins and ends with him sitting on his couch.

Dude the washing machine is a MACHINE -- isn't it supposed to do all that shit for you? It knows how to get laundry clean.
Please don't forget the classic episode where he is confounded by the ending to F13 The Final Chapter. It's a puzzler.

I'm extremely burned out on the drafts, but I really haven't seen a compelling reason yet to ban them.
If I see anyone suggesting a Ripoll vs The Condom, I'll fucking punch him.
I heard the season finale involves a cliffhanger where Ripoll gets a gig playing guitar in a coffeehouse, but it might fall through because he can't figure out the volume settings on his amp.
And the thread takes a turn for greatness.

Fuck you, bag of hole.

May I propose a Moratorium Draft?

My first pick is "Werewolves of London" by that prick Warren Zevon. That song should not be played any time of the year except October 31st.

The 2 parter where he tries to set his clock radio is right up there with the 'Chuckles the Clown' episode of the Mary Tyler Moore show.

I just like saying Digg It. WTF. A black guy can't say Digg it anymore?

It does, however, seems like an appropriate Ripoll sitcom synopsis. Thanks!

The Minsky pick surprised me, though. A good, solid pick to be sure. But, before DaveB and Zooey? You have to keep value in mind. For instance, when you take Kabong, you get Fabfunk as well.

I was really hesitating between Minsky and Litmus Configuration. Litmus has strong Photoshop skills to bring in ma house, but Minsky did Vietnam, and bested me in a Diablo clicking battle, so there's that.

And who on Earth would want a Kabong pick?
The only draft pick that I'd need would be Tati. Drafting him nets me all of the beautiful South American women.

Knowing him, I'm pretty sure he Digged your articles, as well as me, and others. That's the least I can do. Still, It was a jest, a jab. Aren't we more thicker-skinned than that?

Yes, listing films with the attendant 'Oh! That was my third round pick! Die in a fire for choosing that!' is discourse in the grandest tradition.
