Shows you gave up on...

Thread Starter
I was watching way too many TV Shows and I have less time every day.

So, as of this week. I am no longer wasting time in :

Prison Break
Terminator
Dirty Sexy Money (i might pick back up in the summer)
Dexter (i tried, i swear)

And i'm very close to dropping Heroes. But i can't seem to do it yet.

What shows have you given up on?

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit

LOST. That show is now an absolute disaster. It's painfully obvious that the writers have no idea where they're going or what they're doing. Their solution to this: introduce an obnoxious Asian ghost hunter and have every episode focus around him! Great idea!

And there's no face on TV I'd rather punch than Michael Emerson.

Smallville. I wanted it to be good but it just isn't.

What the character who all but disappeared from the show four episodes after his first appearance?

Fringe and Spooks (MI5) are both shows I tried to like, but ended up being utterly bored by.

Terminator. Just 2 weeks ago, too.

Prison Break (Season 3)
CSI Miami (Season 3 or 4ish)
Heroes (finally)

My tv isn't hooked up (I watch on dvd) but I gave up after the second season. I just didn't find Leary likeable and the whole scene with him and Callie Thorne shrieking just turned me off. *shrug*

He did? I wouldn't know, because I gave up on it! Felt good, too.

Did they ever get round to explaining why Clancy Brown was walking around on the island in a Biohazard suit?

Because he'd been told that there was an infection on the island?

Terminator
Miami Vice

And the big one...

Battlestar Galactica, something I intend on fixing, eventually. I enjoyed it, just lost my interest somewhere in Season 3 and I never picked it up again.

Man, I'm glad I stopped watching Lost!

Y'know THE SICKNESS from Season 1. But if you were honestly after answers it's probably best you gave up now, the show'll never answer everything.

Boomtown and Shield were both shows where I caught the First Seasons, lost cable and never bothered to get back into them.

Wait, you dropped Dexter and not Heroes?

What the fuck is wrong with you, seriously are you doing meth or something?

I find it terribly repetitive. And other than Dexter himself, i hate the rest of the characters.
Also, can't stand the narration. I love the premise, but i can't get behind the execution (no pun intended).
Gave it 2 seasons and a half. But i had to drop it.

If you had paid any attention during season 2 you would have known that. You obviously watched long enough to know they introduced an asian ghost hunter.

You stink on ice.

I have the complete series set of BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER that was given to me as a Christmas gift some years back. I made it halfway through S2, and then I never got around to finishing it. I've thought about resuming it, but that would mean I'd have to start the season over to remember what was going on and I don't really want to do that.

Same story with THE WEST WING, although I made it to S5 on that one.

The Shield was always an entertaining 40 minutes, but it really took things up from the 5th season on. That's a long time to stick around if you don't like it at all, but if you were digging it at all, it gets better as it goes.

The end of S2 is a highlight of the series. Definitely watch at least that far - if you don't remember where you left off, I'd suggest starting with "Innocence," which is the episode when the shit got real. (edit: actually, no, the one before that one, whatever it is.)

Don't worry, once they graduate high school the show goes downhill.

Here's one I'll catch a lot of dung for: Deadwood. Just wasn't doing for me and that show.
Heroes
Supernatural
Grey's Anatomy

It feels good to not think about how stupid and irritating these shows are anymore. Also, I'm very tempted to add House to that list; I just don't care about it anymore.
Heroes (season 1 finale)
House
Entourage

House is just too overexposed in my apartment with The House Network (USA) and I gave up with the season premiere of Entourage, though I hear this season hasn't been bad.

How far did you get? Honestly, it didn't really click for me until the end of the first season, and only got better from there. I think I was originally so caught up in the violence and (glorious) profanity that I failed to recognize how frequently hilarious it is.
House. Hugh Laurie is so unlikeable that I just wonder why Wilson (or any rational person) would put up with him. Props to Season 4 for introducing Olivia Wilde though.

Heroes. I sooo wanted to work out. But even I hav to admit that this is a lost cause.

Surprised that Paul McCartney hated LOST. I thought that was like Holy Ground here in CHUD. I liked the first season. Stopped halfway in the "Others" storyline and am enjoying Season 4 immensely right now.

I understand why people might hate it though. Too many "coincidences" for me to take. ("Everything is connected!" Really?)
Got about midway through the first season. Must have been shortly after Wild Bill was killed off since that's about the one major thing I recall from my tenure as a viewer. Didn't think it was a bad show, just never connected with me. I was pretty stunned because it seemed like a show that would fit me like a glove.
Yeah, it really does pick up steam once Veronica Mars comes to Deadwood.

Macca, you crazy. Michael Emerson is one of the biggest reasons I watch Lost. This show has become amazingly and entertainingly retarded, rather than the snoozefest seasons 2 and 3 were. Why I kept watching, I'll never know.

To be honest, the plague storyline immediately following Bill's death is probably the weakest stretch of the show (lasting 2-3 eps). But you should at least check it out until ep. 10, "Mr. Wu". If you don't like that one, then you're wrong, but fair enough.

24, on DVD.

I'd heard so many great things about this show it wasn't even funny. It could be that it was just too insistent on cliffhanger after cliffhanger, which doesn't mesh well with watching episode after episode, but it got annoying fast. Threw my arms up in the air on the 4th disc. I can't imagine the show got less preposterous in later seasons, so I'm not going back.
Me too with 24, except I was a dumb kid and it took me 3 and half seasons to realize I hated it.
I watch allot of TV on DVD from Netflix. Became big fan of The Sopranos, Deadwood, Curb my Enthusiam, Entourage, Rome, Red Dwarf, The Shield, Flight of the Concords, etc. but there are several I just couldn't get into.

Veronica Mars - I only got though the first DVD of the first season. I keep pushing pack the second disc on my netflix list.

The West Wing - I stuck around till the 2nd disc of Season 1 trying to get into it, but I just couldn't get into any of the characters.

Nip/Tuck - Gave up after Season 3. 1st Season was great though.

Moonlighting - I was surprised how bored I was watching this since I am a fan of Bruce Willis.

I forgot about this one. Good call. I think I made it through S3, but I'll be damned if I remember anything in the show after the Carver storyline ended.

Your loss, Molti.
Don't be insane, it's one of the greatest shows of all time.
At least finish the first season before dropping something with that good of dialogue.

Me?

Weeds
Survivor
ER
and Lost is trying to lose me.

I still love Nip/Tuck

So much bad taste in this thread. Dexter? Lost? BSG?

Ridiculous.

DEXTER, 1st season. I hear it got better, but I'll probably never know for myself.
ENTOURAGE. I didn't know I gave up on it until I realized that I hadn't made the slightest effort to watch it this season, I just don't care anymore.
Supernatural is pretty awesome. Second season was a bit iffy, but they really stepped up their game lately.
Millenium: Big fan of Lance Henrikson but the show always bored me when my dad tried to make me watch it. Maybe I'll try again but I kind of doubt it.

ER My mom and I stopped watching after Anthony Edwards died. He was really the heart and soul for us after that it just became depressing hour after depressing hour with people we didn't care for.

Star Treks: Voyager and Enterprise: Nuff said.

I very nearly gave up on The Shield after hating Season 3 but I knew there was good stuff coming so I got back in. Same with BSG after Season 2.5 (I'm loving the hell out of Season 3, I just don't get what people trash about it).

"Somehow, Satan Got Behind Me" from the second season is probably the best episode of Millennium.
A little surprised that The X-Files hasn't been mentioned yet. That's one I hear all the time.
The Simpsons. May be old news to most of you, but I kept trying up through the 2005-06 season. Then I quit. It was like giving up crack, even though I know it was just going to lead to me blowing strangers in the alley again.

I usually don't give up on shows because of quality or lack thereof, but my terrible attention span. I'm notorious for getting friends hooked on shows, like The Shield, 24, then ditching them halfway through their first seasons. It's happening again with Sons of Anarchy, a show I adore, but I have some habitual thing about keeping up with serial television. Such a commitment.
Just gave up on Terminator after this week's episode made less sense than usual and was just a flaming pile of crap.

I'm close to dropping Heroes, but after the announcement of Jeph Loeb and the other producer getting fired and the efforts to streamline the show to get back to character development, I'm willing to ride it out just a little longer to see if they really can get the show back on track by the end of this season.
24 is one I just can't shake. There are mosre disappointing series than satisfying, but seasons 3 and 6 made it worthwhile sticking with for me. Unfortunately, if you skip the seasons in between, you'd probably miss some of the wider story arcs.

Dropped Lost midway through season 2. A great premise stretched too thin.
24's got one more season of goodwill. After that, I've got no problem dropping that show like a shit-covered brick.

Heroes, I'm already done with. Technically, I started to check out halfway through Season 2, but this season's been just episode after episode of Tim Kring laughing in my face.

Not really. That idiot is the definition of bad taste. Lost is not for stupid people, so I understand why his head hurts. I agree that season 2 nearly made me give up out of boredom, but what a comeback.

I gave up on Heroes, The Simpsons, Terminator and Rescue Me.

Some names are highly suspicious here. BSG, Lost, Dexter... who gonna be dumb enough to put The Wire in here while we're at it?

EDIT: The BSG/Lost/Dexter nominations are suspicious, but there are valid reasons to be put out. It's having the right ones that somewhat matters. Hating House because the character is a dick is completely missing the point from day 1.
