Shows you gave up on... - Page 3

Here's one...Twin Peaks. Bought the Gold Box edition and got immensely sucked into it's world.

Then came the episode with the badger.

What a massive dip in quality. Bringing replacement love interests because Kyle McLaughlin didn't think his character would hook up with high schooler Audrey when the two of them had more chemistry than Dr. Marvin Candle's lab (NERD!) was just the icing on the cake.

It was a case of outside interference though. I mean, the whole premise of the show rests on a single question(Who killed Laura Palmer?) and when that question is answered...they obviously didn't know where to go next. They needed a better plan.

Anyone who stopped watching the shield needs to give it another chance. Seriously. The seventh season which is airing now, is simply some of the best TV ever released.

I gave up on Prison Break the frist season.

Dirty Sexy Money I gave up on after I saw the first 15 min of the new season, it reminded me how much I started to hate the show by the end of the last season.

I recently gave up on Pushing Daisies as well, while its a well made show, its too episodic for my tastes.

Agree completely. There's an obvious dip in quality in Season 2. Using Heather Graham to replace Sherilynn Fenn? Perish the thought! Fenn and McLachlan had some real chemistry together.

Season 2 is still watchable though. Bad Lynch still makes for above average Television viewing.

I thought one of the reasons the show to a turn towards the shitty was because Lynch left the show to the devices of the writer while he went to work on other projects. When he came back it was pretty much in ruins, but he was involved with the finale and then made FWWM, which was a pretty stunning indictment against TV.

Babylon 5. Loved it up until the end of Season 4. Have never seen Season 5 beyond the first 4 horrific episodes.

Saw one episode of Sopranos. Liked it well enough but it didn't make me want to see more.

Sorry but that's all I've got: I haven't had cable in over 8 years so any TV I watch is via Netflix or YouTube

Just the pilot? I dunno, I try to give a show at least a few episodes to grow on me before I decide whether I'll keep watching. The pilot is normally a helluva lot cheaper looking then the actual show (especially in the case of The Sopranos), and you can tell Gandolfini is still finding his footing with the character in the pilot. You should at least watch the first 4 episodes or so (just get the first disc) and see if you like it after that.

Remember the guy who got stuffed like a teddy bear last season? No way do I want to miss out on seeing insane crap like that.
Ludicrous is a word that comes to mind when it comes to Nip/Tuck. Agreed that it lost its dramatic quality years ago, but the story-lines are as entertaining and original as anything on tv. BTW, I heard Walsh and Mcmanon were demanding huge bucks to return for another season, so this season will prob. be the last! Is that good or Bad?

My answer would be Law and Order (the original). When Mr. Big left no detective they got was better than him. Also, I'm close to giving up on Terminator, but I still have a glimmer of hope for that show.

It's REALLY hard for me to completely give up on a show, but if I become less interested I usually end up downloading and watching the episodes later in my spare time. Usually during the holidays when most shows are on hiatus. So I'll list shows that I finished or am watching, but should have given up on.

1) Enterprise - I didn't actually start watching this until the Xindi season (season 3 I think?) which was actually good. Then the last season was garbage.

2)Terminator - I keep watching this for some reason but realize how retarded it is.

3)Heroes - I'm entertained, but I realize how retarded this show is too. Should have stopped when the season finale of the first season was a total letdown.

4)Nip/Tuck - Last season was so bizarre... what was the point of moving to LA again? They brought practically all the characters back there anyway.

5)Prison Break - Only saw the first few episodes this season. Started watching Heroes live instead... wtf is wrong with me.

6)Stargate Atlantis - sucks.

Weeds.

The first season was great, I hated the second, stuck around for the third which I think was a step back in the right direction, and now they completely screwed the pooch with season 4.

It's just that Nancy is not likeable at all, and you end up rooting for the side-characters, who unfortunetaly got less and less screentime as the show progressed.

Boston Legal. It started off pretty well, James Spader was great, but at some point the show became a procession of characters suing government insitutions for stupidly moralistic reasons and no matter what the insitution (the army, the school system, the church) they always win. It's insufferably self-righteous.

And meta. It keeps going on about Ratings, time slots, seasons finales, sweeps, letters.
It's only left wing propaganda at this point. But i keep watching only because it's the last season.

Terminator. Good idea, horrible execution. Stopped after that lame Wizard of Oz episode

Prison break. Gone after season 3 first episode.

Not even for the amazing Summer Glau?
I'll admit the entire Prison Break 3 was a waste though. (They even admitted it in the Season 4 premiere).

Heroes.
I'm done.

Also very close to dropping House.

Law And Order jumped the shark when they brought on Dennis Farina.

The Stargate franchise jumped it when they greenlit both SG-1 and SG: Atlantis

Hold your fingers as close as you possibly can without touching them. Are you doing it?

That's how close I was to giving up on BSG because of NBC/Universal and their fucked-up SciFi Channel scheduling. I would love to be a fly on the wall during their meetings...

"Ok... we have a show about hunting non-existent ghosts. A show about people being chased for money. A show about a mansion filled with money in dangerous rooms... so what do we do about Galactica?"

A man wreathed in smoke from a Macanudo whirls around in his oversized chair.

"Fuck 'em... They can wait to see it."

I have every episode of the second season of Chuck sitting on my DVR, and I find myself with zero desire to dive in. I really liked the first season, but I just don't feel a strong need to see what happens.

Shame Richard. It's as unpretentious as it comes, and so fun. I'll take that over most of the shows that are airing right now. And now that Gary Cole and Tricia Helfer will be on the show, things are getting even better.

EDIT: And Tati, it took you that long to quit Heroes? Damn, you're tough.

Desperate Housewives, Ugly Betty, Nip/Tuck, Weeds, Dirty Sexy Money. Every one of those shows had a solid first year but lack of direction turned them all into perpetual soap-opera. Californication isn't far behind.

I've officially dropped it. I've got the last 3 episodes on my DVR and I don't really care if I ever watch them.

I don't really follow the shows very much. I used to be on the LOST bandwagon. Watched it religiously during Season 1 and 2. Missed out on 3. But came back in the middle of Season 4. Definitely impressed.

House- Can't really understand why anyone would put up with a jerk like House. Olivia Wilde and Cameron are great draws though.

Heroes- I so wanted to love this. But even now i have to admit its a piece of shit. I am still watching Season 3 out of morbid curiousity though.

Terminator- Only show I am watching consistantly right now. Summer Glau is never a bad thing, even though i can't stand the Riley and Jessie characters.

So, what you're saying is that you are fan of the first seven seasons of Sg-1 and only became disenchanted when they greenlit Atlantis in the eighth season?

I can understand people giving up on the shield though, the plotline with Forest Withicker was not really compling, and then comes what have to be some of the most stupidest mafia people ever (someone stole our files, could it be the cop who I told about the files this very night, nah probably someone else).

And very honestly, it the earlier seasons it was nice watching Vick squirm a bit when he was in a jam. As the show went on you knew people would come to Vick for no reason to let him out how else to explain that deal.

As far as a recent show, Flash Foward, took all of 2 episodes to see that the investigation is random based on what was flashed. It seem the flash knew that all by itself it would cause the future to change, how else could anyone explain the random crap they are investigating. But whatever you do, don't ask you daughter what she saw, not like it going to be the most vital piece of info.
